Everett is a town north of Seattle. When the rained stopped around sunset, I took a walk around it’s waterfront, and enjoyed the lovely scenery around the yacht club. The dense clouds in the sky, reflected onto the water channel, made it a memorable walk.

The Everett Railroad local is working in Claysburg, Pennsylvania on a crisp March morning. It is seen dropping a CN box car at a local industry.

Hoisting her skirt as she crosses the stage, the performer embodies the allure of modern life that captivated artists at the beginning of the twentieth century. An amateur thespian and avid theater goer,Everett Shinn regularly depicted venues such as Keith's vaudeville theater,in which he emphasized the dramatic spectacle of the stage.Much like his contemporaries, including the French Impressionists Edgar Degas,Shinn imagined this scene from the angled vantage point of the audience-whose members he included in many of his canvases-testifying to his understanding of the theater as a social space.

CSX B721 heads down to Schnitzer's light power this afternoon. After shooting it at a good amount of locations this was probably the winner of the day.

The Everett Railroad of today, notable for steam excursions, has nothing in common with the original Everett Railroad, other than the name. Originally, the road operated a former Huntingdon& Broad Top line centered around Everett, Pennsylvania after the H&BT gave up the ghost in 1954. As a kid, I remember seeing the Everett’s GE 80-tonner along the Pennsylvania Turnpike as we passed by Everett on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The Everett operated the line until 1982, when Conrail abandoned its Mt. Dallas Secondary, which was the Everett’s connection to the outside world.

After lying dormant for two years, the Everett found a new home on the former Conrail Bedford Secondary between Brooks Mill and Sproul. Remaining rolling stock was trucked to the new line, including 80-tonner number 4, seen idling in the cold morning airin the right distance. Old Number 4 wasn’t enough to handle the new line’s traffic, so the Everett acquired two ex-Conrail SW9’s, painted in a scheme reminiscent of NJDOT’s original scheme. Here SW9 8933 stands at the road’s operational headquarters in Claysburg, Pennsylvania.

We got to listen to Taps from the Naval base next door while we watched the sunset over the marina. Such a beautiful moment!

Heading east from the Marblehead lighthouse, we looked up two more Ohio covered bridges en route to Pennsylvania. The first was the Everett (or Everett Road) covered bridge, southeast of Richfield. The 100-foot long bridge over Furnace Run uses Smith truss construction; it was built in 1870 and renovated in 1986. It is the only historic covered bridge remaining in Summit County (which includes Akron), according to the Ohio Department of Transportation's website listing historic covered bridges.

The vegetation around the bridge and the direction from which the sun was coming made this view one of the better ones of the Everett bridge; the second-preceding photo, however, provides a view of the entire left side, taken from the other end. The interior is shown in the photo before this one.

When Everett & I were exploring his back pasture, we found a beautiful window skimmer dragonfly. She really liked this perch & kept coming back to it.
