Well, close enough. This is actually about a mile short of the finish of Day 1 at the Everest Challenge bicycle race. I was yelling "go go!" and Eric was yelling "@*#&(@!"

In the middle of the high desert, with nothing but stunted pine trees and scrubby brush all around, I found this one little cactus.

This is the first year I was doing official support for the Everest Challenge bicycle race. And I got signs for the Big Blue Van to prove it.

I had to stop to wait for the riders on the edge of the bristlecone pine forest. I don't think these are actually bristlecone pine trees but it is an interesting harsh landscape.

It gets VERY cold at 8000 feet high desert and the trees and brush reflect the harshness.

At 1000ft (3km) This is where pavement ends on White Mountain

...with evidence of the previous day's snow storm.
