This is Mom, scooting out of the nest as soon as she heard a couple of us walking nearby. As quickly as anyone approaches the birdhouse, both Mom & Dad head off in opposite directions until any perceived "threat" is gone.

Then they make their way back via several poles and fence posts - landing on each one to check out the situation before moving closer, and finally, back into the nest. Unlike eagles, just the female bluebird sits on the eggs but the male is always nearby. A team of devoted parents. :)

Sure HOPE All Of You Are Having A Great Week ...

We followed this train the CHEXT from Garnett and while we had sunny skies when we started by the time they cut out the helpers at Ice Deck siding there was quite the storm brewing. Fortunately the sun low in the sky illuminated it all very nicely. One of the darkest storms I ever witnessed.

Having only ever known city living in my nearly 60 years, I value times when I can get away to the country or the coast for a break. Alongside the slower pace of life, the fresher air and a chance to take in many surprising moments, the dark skies and quiet roads are some of my favourite reasons to escape. A recent south coast sojourn served up several such serene stops. This flat and straight section of road near Bodalla, Australia, has so little traffic on it at night that spending long periods standing in the middle of the road–or lying on it as I’ve done at least once before–to take photos is something you can almost take for granted.

The Milky Way’s core region had risen in the southeastern sky shortly before I arrived, and the distorted view through my camera’s fisheye lens makes our galaxy’s band of stars seem to arch across the sky and the bitumen. The Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy is almost centred in the scene, to the right of the row of poplars planted next to the road. I was fortunate to have cloudless heavens for five of the eight nights I was in the area, and on every one of those nights, the sky’s predominant colour was the subtle green generated by atmospheric airglow. I couldn’t see the electrical wires hanging overhead, showing as black scores on that green sky in my photo. As is often the case, though, perfection is elusive, and the wires’ presence in the shot isn’t too distracting.

Shot as a single frame, this night sky photo was taken with my Canon EOS 6D Mk II camera and a Samyang 8mm f/3.5 fisheye lens @ f/5.6, using an exposure time of 45 seconds @ ISO 12800.

this is as close as I'll ever get to a naked photo of me, and it was taken 8 years ago when I had fewer wrinkles and tauter skin.

mr mcbee honored me by mcbeeing the photo and he came up with three different versions.

he put one up on his stream The McBee and I put up this one.

we shared. : )

Looking Close... on Friday: Plush Toys

It has been four weeks without my little Pixie, and I am still in shock and devastated and hurt, and I miss him so terribly. He was such a special little cat, playful, naughty at times, sensitive, so intelligent, so loving, and we truly had a fusional relationship. It was so unfair that his little life was cut short so early, although I take comfort in the fact that he was loved, and that he brought so many smiles and so much love.

You will forever be in my heart, my little angel. ♥

Every mind is of trillion deviations

from that world that remain the same

today and ever before

The sun rose, the birds called,

You and me rushed out to ' this' world

Just one day, 'our' world began

The sun set, the birds came homeward

You and me will slip out of this world,

Just one day, our world died

'Self ' in the lap of nature's bounty,

out in the world of happiness and joy

today and ever before .

Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) female breeding Spain_4106

An elegant little falcon, often seen in groups. Males are unspotted above with a blue-grey head and similarly-coloured patches on the upper-wings; also note largely pale underwings.

Females like this one, have an indistinct moustache and slightly paler cheek, but are otherwise very similar to Eurasian Kestrel. Shape very similar to Eurasian Kestrel but tail slightly shorter and central tail feathers can project slightly. Wings are more rounded and shorter than those of Eurasian Kestrel.

Hovers frequently and catches insects on the wing over open terrain. Breeds in noisy colonies on buildings and cliffs.

This is why I keep a camera with a long lens handy when I’m on the fells, because in beautiful places beautiful things happen. For the record and for anyone who read my tongue in cheek narrative I wrote to accompany my last post, this photo was taken last Thursday with my Fujifilm xt5 and xf70-300mm f4-5.6 just so you fan boys/girls out there can give an hooray to Fujifilm.

Ever since I've heard about Iceland I wanted to visit its wild and largely untouched highlands. They are one of the few true wilderness areas which can still be found in Europe. The Landmannalagaur region which its famous colorful rhyolite mountains is probably one of the most spectacular landscapes inside the highlands. However, during my first two visits of Iceland I didn't have a change to go there. Since it's off the popular ring road and you can't find any paved roads going there, you'll need an offroad vehicle to drive to it. If you've ever been Iceland you know how expensive these cars can be but on the third visit to the island I finally pulled the plug and rented a small SUV for our whole trip.

Well, actually we did only rent a Suzuki Jimny which is the smallest four-wheel SUV which you can find in Iceland. But when we arrived at the car rental we couldn't see any of them. Instead we were handed keys to a Mercedes -- as a free upgrade. So while I expected to drive with a small car through the rugged landscape, we sat in a big Merced GLK instead with all the convenience inside which you can imagine. It almost felt out of place. But I guess you cannot complain when you get a car which is worth twice as much as the one you originally rented.

Anyway, after driving all the way to the Landmannalaugar base camp through many lava fields the car and how we got there quickly faded back in my memory. Instead I was in absolutely awe with the landscape around me. It's hard to do it justice with pictures but it looked like an incredible beautiful oasis in a sea of rocks. The colors of the mountains are just spectacular and even though I've been to many places around the world already, it was definitely one of the most extraordinary. Unfortunately we only spent half a day hiking through these strange lands. If I knew how great it looked in reality, I would definitely have spent a couple of days there hiking. I think it's one of the big natural wonders of this world.
