Garance from France. After spending nearly two years in this distant land, took a detour in Sydney with a gorgeous simile on her face. β€œI packed bananas 🍌 then I picked avocados πŸ₯‘ and worked in a... just with... horses πŸŽβ€ – she continued sharing stories about her time in Australia. (See more in the video linked bellow). Her demanding job in the stud house in Melbourne, and the heartwarming memory of forging a great friendship in a foreign land, would surely make her story an inspiration for many upcoming travelers.

Not half bad for a hundred year old building.

β€’ Webster Hall (1887) decorated for Halloween β€’ large (max. capacity 2,500) nightclub & concert venue β€’ among NYC’s most historically & culturally significant 19thC assembly halls [c. 1900 illustration.]

β€’ Queen Anne style bldg. β€’ New York City Landmark, 2008

The Bently Reserve in San Francisco is an iconic landmark that beautifully encapsulates the grandeur of early 20th-century architecture. Originally constructed in 1924 as the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, this Beaux-Arts masterpiece was designed by George W. Kelham, a prominent architect who left a significant mark on the city’s architectural landscape. The Bently Reserve's imposing facade, with its row of towering Corinthian columns, commands attention and exudes an air of classic elegance that contrasts strikingly with the modern high-rises that now surround it.

Stepping through the grand entrance, visitors are greeted by an interior that is just as impressive as the exterior. The marble-clad lobby, adorned with intricate bronze detailing and opulent chandeliers, harks back to a time when buildings were constructed not just for utility but as a testament to the city’s prosperity and ambition. The Reserve’s main banking hall, now a prestigious event space, features soaring ceilings, massive arched windows, and meticulously restored murals that offer a glimpse into the building’s storied past.

Today, the Bently Reserve is a sought-after venue for high-profile events, weddings, and corporate gatherings. Its historic charm and prime location in the Financial District make it an ideal spot for those seeking a unique and sophisticated setting. The building has been thoughtfully renovated to preserve its historic elements while incorporating modern amenities, ensuring that it continues to serve as a vital part of San Francisco’s urban fabric.

For those interested in San Francisco’s architectural heritage, the Bently Reserve is more than just a building; it’s a living piece of history that continues to play a prominent role in the city’s cultural and social scene.

This video gives an insight into what you can expect if you book a Christmas party at The Brewery.

This striking photograph captures the elegant, yet imposing, facade of the Union Iron Works Company building at Pier 70, taken during the quiet, transitional hours of the early morning. The atmosphere is crisp and still, defined by the cool dark blue of the pre-dawn sky and the warm, intense floodlights illuminating the structure's beautifully restored features. The building stands as a powerful testament to San Francisco's industrial heritage, presenting a face that balances neoclassical grandeur with utilitarian function.

The building's main entrance is dominated by a monumental arched entryway, framed by the two-story structure. This grand arch, completely filled with glass and black metal window mullions, serves as a massive window, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the vast interior space. The facade itself is finished in a clean, pale colorβ€”likely stucco or painted brickβ€”providing a stark contrast to the black windows and the dark sky above. The name, "UNION IRON WORKS COMPANY," is prominently displayed across the cornice, adding a strong historical anchor to the scene.

Symmetrically placed windows flank the central arch, all with dark, crisp frames, reflecting the warm interior lighting. The overall design emphasizes order and strength, fitting for a building that once housed a massive engineering and shipbuilding operation. At street level, the corner is clearly marked by a street sign for "20th St" and "Georgia," grounding the historic landmark in its contemporary urban location.

In the foreground, the street features a wide pedestrian crossing area with bold, white stripes, emphasizing the scale of the entrance. The subtle presence of two parked bicycles or scooters adds a contemporary, human element, suggesting the modern function of the revitalized space, perhaps as offices, studios, or event venues, now frequented by the city's current workforce. The contrast between the rough, historic cobblestone of the road and the smooth, modern concrete of the sidewalk further highlights the careful blending of preservation and modern development at this iconic San Francisco waterfront site.

A single 30 second exposure, using my iPhone to mask the lower half of the frame. Only some basic adjustments in post via Lightroom plus selective clarity/dehaze on the stars was performed.

Architects: von Gerkan, Marg und Partner (GMP), 2002, using steel and reinforced concrete to emulate the shape of the original circus-tent venue for concerts and theatre. Situated on the cleared site of the Anhalter Bahnhof train shed. Neues Tempodrom, Mâckernstraße 10, Berlin, Germany.

Historic 1864 Victorian style house is now the Saxon Manor, an event venue.

The Kentucky Castle, also known as Castle Post, Martin Castle and Versailles Castle, is a castle in Kentucky, located in Versailles, Kentucky, near Lexington, Kentucky, 201 Pisgah Pike near the Woodford County line, part of a 50 acres (20 ha) estate. Construction on the castle was started by Rex Martin and his wife Caroline Bogaert Martin in 1969, after they had returned from a trip to Germany and were inspired by the architecture and many famous buildings they had seen in Europe. The finished project was to have seven bedrooms, fifteen bathrooms, a fountain in the driveway, and a tennis court. In 1975, the Martins divorced and left the castle unfinished. Over the years, it became a popular oddity and roadside photo-op for tourists. In 1988 Rex Martin put it on the market, but died before it was sold. In 2003 the so-called "Martin Castle" was sold for 1.8 million dollars to Thomas R. Post, a lawyer from Miami who graduated from University of Kentucky, and the name was changed to "The Castle Post". It had been for sale for many years at a price rumored to be more than 3 million dollars.

On May 10, 2004, after months of renovations, tragedy struck when newly installed woodwork and wiring caught fire in the main building. Approximately twice the castle's original cost went towards the reconstruction project. Reconstruction was completed in fall 2008. New additions includes twelve luxury suites, a library, game room, music room, dining hall, ball room, swimming pool, formal garden, basketball court, bar, and tennis court. In November, 2010 the property was listed for sale at $30,000,000 and was sold in 2017.

A local landmark on the Detroit River since opening in 1958. It hosted many of the original Motown bands and was the headquarters for the Gold Cup hydroplane races for many years. Now it is primarily used as a wedding reception and special event venue.

May 1, 2022 - "The first stone of this neo-Gothic, cross-shaped basilica was laid in 1872.

The building of the Vondel church is closely connected to the building of the 'Vondelstraat'. Pierre Cuypers designed the houses at street numbers 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 as well as 73, 75, 77 and 79 (Cuyper's residence).

Cuypers, also the architect of Centraal Station, Rijksmuseum and Posthoornkerk, built the Vondelstraat as a property developer. And, in keeping with his vision of the ideal community, he built a church right in the midst of the houses.

Catholic church

The Vondelkerk had been in use for Catholic worship from 1880 to 1977 as church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. When the severely-neglected building was threatened with being demolished, a plan for its renovation was drawn up.

The Vondelkerk is no longer used for church services. The middle nave of the Vondelkerk is now used for weddings, dinners, receptions, lectures and musical events or other cultural activities." Previous description: www.amsterdamsights.com/attractions/vondelkerk.html
