I was invited by my friend Jos to tag along with his photoshoot at the Latin Deluxe Salsa dancing event by Salsa Contigo in CCOG eventspace in Duiven. It was my chance to try event photography without too much pressure, enjoy some salsa music and do something I had not done before, shooting fast-moving dancers in low light.
The event organisers had put up this banner and thought it would be nice to photograph couples here. I wasn't informed in advance that they wanted to do this, but thankfully I had brought my light-stands, 43" shoot-through umbrellas, flash units and remote triggers to fabricate some (more flattering) lighting. I used a key light and fill light. I still had to wait for the disco lights to pass, the spot wasn't exactly ideal. I also removed some of the decorating items from the wall. The flash units were at half power, but I had to bump exposure a bit in post. I also added some vignetting. Considering the disastrous location, I am quite happy with the end-results.
Lessons learned:
- Shoot with (bounced) flash and slow shutter speeds to freeze movement and show motion at the same time.
- Talk with orga and demand to be kept up-to-date on schedules and key moments
- Don't Panic.

We went up to NEPA to visit family & friends, eat regional food favorites and visit some special locations to us. Also brought our pup, Rose along with us for her very first Out-of-State Adventure!
First full day of our NEPA trip. We explored places around Kingston (including Kirby Park). In the afternoon, we met up with my Mom & Sister and drove up to Tunkhannock (visiting Creekside Gardens). Our evening was capped off with a walk to Josie's for Italian Gelati, Malted Shake & Custard!

The Loft is an event space at 5th & K located on the second floor. It is a great space to host private happy hours, receptions, and meet and greet/mingle. It's setup "lounge" style with sofas and dining tables. (Photo by Lawrence Perkins)
This neat event space is in a building not more than 30-35 years old. However, the timbers and the largest chandelier were captured from an old church.
The Olde Mill Emporium was built by the Amish, to be a place to have flea markets, etc, and to sell their goods.
But for about 15 years now, it has been an event space. It is very charming, and can accomodate up to 300 guests.
The bing.com view is here: binged.it/LtJDCP I have spun it so that we are looking WEST. North is to our right.

There's no better way to kick off rainy day in Central Park then with B&H Event Space and world renowned lighting guru, DJ LaDez.
There were plenty of equipment:
light modifiers, Lumedyne flashes, Flashmeters, Pocket wizards
Costumes, clothing, hats, and boots provided by www.buyexoticboots.com, the North East's largest source of Cowboy Boots and Western Wear.
I was there and I learned a lot.
All that was possible and FREE !
Thanks B&H Event Space !!
