In Navarra, Spain, pilgrims walk the French Way of St. James towards Zariquiegui, in a stage that precedes the ascent to the Sierra del Perdón. The gravel trail, which winds through cultivated fields and undergrowth, serves as a corridor for pilgrims and rural support. The Church of San Andrés, with its late 13th-century Romanesque architecture, rises on the horizon, not only as a visual reference for the entrance to the village, but also as a point of historical and spiritual orientation. Zariquiegui thus assumes a strategic role on the Jacobean route, being the last settlement with services before the demanding ascent, and illustrates the deep connection between the rural landscape, medieval architectural heritage and the centuries-old tradition of pilgrimage in Europe, where thousands of people seek an experience of introspection and connection with history, perpetuating a path of faith, culture and personal overcoming.
