The Berkelpoort is a water gate and part of the Zutphen city wall and located on the eastern edge of the city center, across the small river Berkel. The gate was built in the 14th century to connect the two settlements on both sides of the Berkel.
Originally there were two water gates that together with the city wall formed a fortress around the city. The other water gate, which was located at Berkelpoortstraat, was demolished in 1774.
In 1888 the Berkelpoort was restored by architect P.J.H. Cuypers. Cuypers preserved the ruinous state of the gate by covering the top of the walls with a layer of cement. A new, more reconstructive restoration followed in 1951.

After a fatal accident, the water board installed obstacles in the form of cables with buoys in front of the weirs, in addition to the existing signs, so that it is clear to water sports enthusiasts that they cannot continue sailing.

Before the coming of the railway, the Berkel was a major shipping route for goods from Münster to Eibergen, Borculo, and Zutphen, transported in flat-bottomed boats called Berkelzompen.
The zomp is an old ship type, which was mainly used to the east of the IJssel. On the rivers and streams, Overijsselse Vecht, Regge, Schipbeek and Berkel, these boats were used between 1670 and 1925. As a type, the zomp is a pram. However, it has wide flared sides and therefore a very deep sheer. Vertical detachable side cuffs were placed on top. This created a large cargo hold at shallow draft.

As we walked along the Berkel we heard a lot of excited bird screams in the distance. We couldn't identify the sound, but as we got closer we saw a heron sitting on the coot's nest and it was the coot that must have been screaming to make clear she didn't agree. The heron didn't care, but left after a while anyway. Agitated, the coot climbed her nest, it did not seem damaged, but the coot frantically began to stamp the nest flat with her enormous foot and with her beak brought the blades back to the place she thought they should have. It was quite a spectacle :)
Irgendwann verlässt der Jagststeig die Jagst und geht an der Brettach entlang weiter. Unterwegs habe ich fast niemand gesehen. Aber hier an der glitschigsten Stellen, als ich gerade mit dem Selbstauslöser paar Aufnahmen gemacht habe, kommen von hinten zwei MTB-Fahrer - natürlich schiebend.
(Für den Fall, dass Hochwasser ist, gibt es Umgehungsmöglichkeiten. Wie gut diese Umleitung ausgeschildert ist, kann ich natürlich nicht sagen.)

The street musician Tonis lived in Zutphen around 1555 and named the tower after himself. Drogenap ( Dry Cup) was his nickname. He was probably called that because he drank a lot. A 'nap' is a kind of drinking cup. Another theory is that he was called that because he was very poor.
In 1999 it was decided to erect a statue of Drogenap near the tower. Artist Oscar Rambonnet chose not to depict the figure himself, but only his clothing in bronze. Because the sculpture is hollow and open at the back, everyone can now - literally - get under the skin of Drogenap. The typical trumpet for Drogenap is part of the image.

Das Schloss Neuenbuerg liegt in Baden-Wuerttemberg, 12 km suedwestlich von Pforzheim auf einem Umlaufberg der Enz oberhalb von Neuenbuerg. Es beherbergt neben einer Gastronomie seit 2001 auch ein Zweigmuseum des Badischen Landesmuseums. Das Museum vermittelt die Regionalgeschichte, z. B. Floesserei im Nordschwarzwald und inszeniert eine magische Schau nach dem Maerchen Das kalte Herz von Wilhelm Hauff.
Das Schloss wurde von den Grafen von Vaihingen im 11. Jahrhundert gegruendet. Es wurde 1320 von Graf Eberhard I. von Wuerttemberg erworben, der dadurch die Westgrenze nach Baden sichern wollte. Von der mittelalterlichen Burg, die wahrscheinlich bereits die Ausmasse der heutigen Anlage hatte, sind noch erhebliche Reste erhalten.

Der Westweg ist eine Nord-Sued-Fernwanderstrecke durch den Schwarzwald von Pforzheim nach Basel. Der zirka 285 Kilometer lange Hoehenwanderweg wurde im Jahre 1900 als erster Fernwanderweg in Deutschland angelegt und wird seither vom Schwarzwaldverein gepflegt und betreut. Sein Wegzeichen ist eine rote Raute auf weissem Grund.
Der Westweg beginnt in Pforzheim. Er fuehrt zunaechst durch das Enztal nach Dobel und danach durch weite Waelder mit Mooren zum Hohloh. Nach dem Abstieg ins Murgtal steigt der Weg wieder an bis zum hoechsten Punkt des Nordschwarzwalds, der Hornisgrinde. Die weitere Strecke verlaeuft entlang der Schwarzwaldhochstrasse bis zur Alexanderschanze und danach durch Waelder ins Kinzigtal nach Hausach. Nach steilem Anstieg beruehrt der Westweg von der Martinskapelle (Bregquelle) bis zur Kalten Herberge die Europaeische Wasserscheide zwischen Rhein und Donau. In Titisee gabelt sich der Westweg in eine westliche und eine oestliche Strecke. Die westliche Route (Variante A) verlaeuft ueber den Feldberggipfel, den Belchen und den Blauen nach Kandern und danach durch die Wolfsschlucht und das Tal der Wiese nach Basel.
