360 degree mixed media light painting. Images initially drawn by hand, then scanned in and coloured in Photoshop, loaded onto an LED light stick and captured in a long exposure on a 360 degree camera (so the final image is straight out of the camera rather than being comped together in post).

This is a short 360-degree 3840x2160 pixel timelapse movie. You may be able to view better with Ricoh Theta Viewer and downloading of this timelapse.

I could enjoy astroimaging near Mt.Fuji through the calm night. The site was dark and open toward east, but the sky was not dark toward east due to light dome over Tokyo. The site was not good for imaging of rising comet.
equipment: Ricoh Theta Z1 on a compact tripod
exposure: 60 seconds at f/2.1 and ISO 1,000
processing: resized with Photoshop and made timelapse movie with Filmora
site: 733m above sea level at lat. 35 22 03 North and long. 138 32.59 East in Asagiri Highland 静岡県朝霧高原. Ambient temperature was around 5 degrees Celsius or 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Wind was mild. SQML reached 21.08. Seeing was bad, and guide error RMS was around 3" at the low elevation in the sky. The view was open toward the direction there, but the site was not suitable for imaging of rising comets.
I drove 3 hours toward north for clear sky to image a comet. The site was dark and quiet except silent songs of so many autumn crickets. Clouds encroached and hid the object soon. I wound up my imaging session far before the beginning of twilight.
equipment: Ricoh Theta V on a compact tripod on my wagon
exposure: 60 seconds at ISO 1,000 and f/2.0

My own little way of getting swept up in the hype. (See also +Teamgeist (2006)

Update January 2012: The original was assembled from 4 copies of a snapshot, with some glaring misalignments / errors. This version is more accurate, with better colour and accuracy.
Stitched Panorama
40 new pics today, not really well sorted as usual, so if you have time and inspiration, take a look ;))
It was clear and calm at the parking by Kono lake of Vocano Akagiyama, though the sky was not so dark compared to the site near Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. The light dome over Tokyo was very strong to the south.
I put a pair of white lines indicating the location of C/2013 US10 Catalina near The Big Dipper, Ursa Mayor.
Here is the same 360-degree view at night near Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii with the same camera and exposure.
