Vue aérienne du parc olympique de Montréal prise à partir de l’avion, lors d'un vol entre Francfort en Allemagne et l’aéroport Pierre-Élliott-Trudeau à Montréal au Canada.
La grande surface verte adjacente au parc olympique représente le Jardin botanique et le parc Maisonneuve.
En arrière-plan, on peut voir le fleuve Saint-Laurent, les ponts reliant l'île de Montréal à la rive sud ainsi que les îles Notre-Dame et Sainte-Hélène qui ont été réaménagées dans le cadre de l'Expo 67, l'exposition internationale dont Montréal fut l'hôte à l'été 1967.

Le Stade olympique est un stade omnisports couvert d'une capacité de 56 000 places, pouvant être aménagé jusqu'à une capacité de 65 000 places. Conçu par l'architecte français Roger Taillibert à la demande du maire Jean Drapeau, le Stade avait pour mandat d'accueillir les Jeux olympiques d'été de 1976 dans un premier temps, puis les Expos de Montréal par la suite, qui y ont séjourné à partir de 1977, jusqu'à leur départ, en 2004. Sa tour de 165 mètres de haut, soutenant 75 % de la charge du toit, est la plus haute structure inclinée au monde et elle comporte un funiculaire qui permet de rejoindre un observatoire.
Édifice emblématique de la ville de Montréal, il demeure controversé, étant vu à la fois comme un chef-d’œuvre d'architecture et comme un éléphant blanc. Surnommé en anglais le « Big O » en référence à sa forme vue de haut, c'est le plus grand stade du Canada. Depuis 2012 c'est le stade hivernal de l'Impact de Montréal.
Situé au cœur du Parc olympique de Montréal, le Stade olympique fait partie d'un ensemble d'équipements, comprenant la Tour de Montréal, le Centre sportif, les esplanades extérieures, ainsi qu'un vaste stationnement intérieur de près de 4 000 places. L'espace à la base de la tour abrite le Centre sportif du Parc olympique et le plus grand centre aquatique au Canada, équipé de gymnases, de salles de musculation et de sept piscines.

The Breguet BR 1150 ATLANTIC procedure trainer is an almost fully equipped training cell for the training of the tactical crews of the maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
The Breguet Atlantic, also known as the BR 1150, is a maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) that was developed multinationally.
The aircraft is used for patrol flights as well as for submarine hunting.
The Breguet Atlantic is the only aircraft in the world that was built exclusively for this range of tasks from the outset, while other maritime reconnaissance aircraft are usually developed on the basis of civilian aircraft.
The machines of the German Navy are now retired, but are still in operation in other countries.
In addition to the version for the MPA task, the Bundeswehr also had the BR 1150 M equipment variant for telecommunications and electronic reconnaissance.

Die Breguet Atlantic, auch BR 1150, ist ein Seefernaufklärer (Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) der multinational entwickelt wurde. Das Flugzeug wird für Patrouillenflüge sowie zur U-Jagd eingesetzt. Bei der Breguet Atlantic handelt es sich weltweit um das einzige Flugzeug, das von Anfang an ausschließlich für dieses Aufgabenspektrum gebaut wurde, während andere Seeaufklärer im Regelfall auf Basis ziviler Flugzeuge entwickelt werden. Die Maschinen der Deutschen Marine sind heute ausgemustert, werden aber in anderen Ländern noch weiter betrieben. Neben der Version für die MPA-Aufgabe gab es in der Bundeswehr noch die Ausrüstungsvariante BR 1150 M für Fernmelde und Elektronische Aufklärung.

NJ Transit 4503 has been wrapped in commemoration of Atlas Model Railroad Company's 100th Anniversary. At first glance the logo under the cab window appears to be a traditional "Radio Equipped" lightning bolt. It instead reads "DCC Equipped". That must be quite a DCC decoder under the hood!

Premier jour de l'année. Il pleut, il fait sombre. Michel me téléphone... « Bonne année Sylvain! J'ai un beau cadeau pour toi pour débuter l'année, le Petit-duc roux est là ce matin et il n'arrête pas de regarder dans la cavité, moi je pense que l'autre est dans le fond du trou. Je dois partir, bonne chance! ». Au milieu de l'après-midi, il pleut toujours, j'arrive, le spécimen roux est encore là aux abords de la cavité, seul. Enfin je rencontre ce Petit-duc tout roux, un roux rouge comme jamais je n'en ai vu un sur l'île de Montréal. Ce type de roux là j'en ai vu à trois reprises, toujours sur la Rive-Sud de Montréal. Cette rousse, je vous l'ai présenté à la fin du mois de février, il s'agit de Charlotte, que j'ai baptisée ainsi en mars 2022 après que je l'ai relâchée dans un petit parc à Côte-Saint-Paul, là où elle avait été trouvée légèrement blessée à une aile avant d'être soignée par le Dr Guy Fitzgerald et son équipe. Vous pouvez voir ou revoir cette publication à son sujet en cliquant ici. À peine arrivée depuis une quinzaine de minutes, qu'apparaissait, comme on le voit sur cette image, son mâle, Édouard V (nommé ainsi par Michel), que je vous ai également déjà présenté au dernier soir de l'année 2022 lors de ma publication pour les souhaits de la nouvelle année (par ici pour la revoir).
Ce 1er janvier 2023, j'étais avec mon ami Emmanuel Bernier à vivre cette merveilleuse scène : voir un couple de Petits-duc maculés ensemble aux abords de la même cavité. Toujours un grand privilège.
Sans le deviner alors, nous étions témoins du début d'une longue série de sessions à venir où nous allions avec Michel être observateurs d'une des plus fabuleuses nichées qui soit. Une nichée tout urbaine. L'inconcevable nichée!

Tomba a thòlos di Vapheio(Laconia), scavata nel 1889 da Christos Tsountas.
La tomba conteneva le spoglie del « principe di Vaphio », di cui non rimane molto, così come degli oggetti funerari sepolti insieme a lui.
Gli oggetti qui trovati includono una grande quantità di gemme e collane di ametista, insieme ad oggetti in oro, argento, bronzo, ferro, piombo, ambra e cristallo.
Tra questi oggetti vi è uno specchio, alcuni vasi in alabastro, delle daghe incrostate d'oro niellato, coppe in argento, giavellotti da caccia e in più un'ascia di tipo siriana.
Il principe di Vaphio teneva fra le mani due splendide tazze d'oro (foto) che sono di gran lunga gli oggetti funerari più raffinati dell'intera collezione.
La coppia di tazze d'oro sono decorate con scene in rilievo (tecnica a sbalzo, quindi si tratta non di oro massiccio ma di doppia lamina, di cui quella interna liscia tronco-conica e ribattuta verso l'esterno a formare l'orlo),
Rappresentano la cattura del toro selvatico su una di esse (il toro carica a testa alta i i due cacciatori tra cui uno cade rovinosamente a terra, e l'altro viene lanciato in alto), e il suo addomesticamento sull'altra.
Sono dotate di manico di interessante soluzione ergonomica.
La loro altezza è di circa dieci centimetri.
Queste formano forse i lavori più perfetti dell'arte micenea-minoica che sia mai sopravvissuta.

Thòlos tomb of Vapheio (Laconia), excavated in 1889 by Christos Tsountas.
The tomb contained the remains of the "prince of Vaphio", of whom not much remains, as well as the funerary objects buried with him.
The objects found here include a large quantity of amethyst gems and necklaces, along with objects made of gold, silver, bronze, iron, lead, amber and crystal.
Among these objects there is a mirror, some alabaster vases, daggers encrusted with nielloed gold, silver cups, hunting javelins and a Syrian-type axe.
The prince of Vaphio held in his hands two splendid gold cups (photo) which are by far the finest funerary objects in the entire collection.
The pair of gold cups are decorated with scenes in relief (embossed technique, so it is not solid gold but a double sheet, of which the internal one is smooth, truncated-conical and hammered outwards to form the rim) .
They represent the capture of the wild bull on one of them (the bull charges the two hunters head-on, one of whom falls disastrously to the ground, and the other is thrown up), and its taming on the other.
They are equipped with an interesting ergonomic handle.
Their height is about ten centimeters.
These form perhaps the most perfect works of Mycenaean-Minoan art that have ever survived.

Princess Wrenching Live Show, Lhasa, Tibet, China.
Alongside the south bank of the Lhasa River, the building is set up for the performance of Princess Wen Cheng, a show focusing on the Tang (618-907) princess who married King Songtsan Gampo and promoted economic, social and cultural exchanges between the Han people and the Tibetan ethnic group.
Princess Wen Cheng, as the envoy of the Han culture, is respected and supported by the Tibetans.
The five-story Tibetan-style building broke ground in July 2012, and covers an area of more than 20,000 square meters, which is equipped as a comprehensive open-air theater with a high-tech stage artistic design.
The stands can hold about 3,000 people, and the lights can change background images to show mountains, palaces and temples.

The new steamer, Calvin Austin, which will run on the International division of the Eastern steamship company, between Boston and St. John, N.B. was launched at noon Saturday at the yards of Harlan & Holllngsworth at Wilmington, Del. Miss Ethel G. Fuller, daughter of Ransom B. Fuller of this city. president of the Eastern Steamship Company, christened the ship.
The Calvin Austin Is one of the largest of her type on the entire seaboard, and her rating Is the highest In marine architecture. The total cost of the steamer was about (illegible) . She is 325 feet long, 62 feet wide over guards, the depth of hull is 21 feet, and registers about 4000 tons. She has easy lines, with a graceful, ellptlcai stern. She Is a screw ship. The hull, constructed of the highest grade of steel, has a double bottom, and is divided by five watertight bulkheads and a collision bulkhead.
The engines are the triple expansion type and will give a speed of 20 miles an hour. The fire room Is floored with bltumastlc cement, and the same material Is used In the kitchen wherever there Is exposure to great heat: so that the ship Is practically fireproof.
Bilge keels have been fitted to prevent rolling, and the great propeller, 16 feet In diameter, will drive the ship without appreciable vibration.
The ship Is electrically lighted, there being two separate plants. On the main deck, aft of the machinery, Is the social hall, finished In mahogany, with Interlocking rubber tile floor. From this deck Is the main stairway leading to the grand saloon. The main saloon, which is 30 feet wide in the centre, runs the entire length of the ship, and Is finished In white and gold.
Above the main saloon, hung by trusses, thus doing away with stanchions, is a spacious gallery. Leading from the two saloons are 260 large and well ventilated two-berth staterooms, which are equipped with mahogany berths. There are 18 parlor suites.
On the awning deck is a fine promenade of about 750 feet. On this deck there are two shelters, one at the bow and. one at the stern, each being 40 feet long and the width of the ship.
The dining room is aft of the social hall, on the main deck. It Is 50 feet long by 60 wide and will accommodate 150 persons at one time. The windows are 36x42, of heavy French plate glass, clear as crystal, and separated by narrow mullions. The kitchen is forward on the deck just below, and the serving rooms above are well ventilated.
The ship, which Is named for Calvin Austin, the vice president and general manager of the Eastern steamship company, will be commanded by Capt. Samuel Pike, now master of the steamship St. Croix.

What happened three days ago is a very bad story, a 63-year-old man shot two women in the face, one 48 years old, the other 49 years old, and then took his own life, all of which happened in a town in the province of Catania, one of them allegedly had an extramarital affair with the killer: in 2022 120 women were killed, 97 of them were killed in the family or emotional sphere, of these 57 died for hand of the partner or former partner. This tragic and sad incipit linked to the ever-present drama of feminicides, to introduce the photographic story that I made in the town of Savoca (Messina - Sicily) on 08/13/2022, of a very particular representation that was held last time in August 2018; is a narration that pits Evil (a devil armed with a long grappling hook) against Good (Saint Lucia, who holds a silver palm leaf in her hands), the Evil-Devil tries to seduce-distract Saint Lucia with own grappling hook, instead Saint Lucia remains impassive in front of her flattery: violence against women in this very suggestive representation finds distant and deep roots, Saint Lucia actually represents those women who in medieval times had to suffer the abuses perpetrated by the Baron of Savoca nicknamed "Barone Altadonna", which making use of the law "ius primae noctis" (from the Latin "right of the first night"), referred to the "right" according to which a feudal lord could rape a newly married woman on her wedding night. Therefore, this is a photographic narration that speaks of the eternal struggle that takes place between good and evil, which speaks of a dark period of history, speaks of the violence suffered by women but also by those who belonged to the poorest social classes, historical facts that have been handed down to us in the form of a story and associated-transmuted in the martyrdom of Saint Lucia, this is what happens in the town of Savoca (Sicily). This is a report of the living representation of the martyrdom of Saint Lucia (patron saint of the city of Savoca); the cult of the young Saint of Syracuse seems to date back to the fifteenth century, under the influence of Spanish traditions. The living re-enactment of the history of St. Lucia takes place on two consecutive days, Saturday and Sunday: here I try to tell some moments of Saturday, the day during which the celebration does not take place in its full beauty, it is the day during which "the silver palm" is delivered "from the Lucia of the previous edition" to the "Lucia of the current edition", it is the day during which the last details are tested, above all the "impassivity of the little girl who impersonates Saint Lucia", lovingly called "the Lucia".. Sunday: on top of the procession there are the "Jews" (the emissaries of the prefect Pascasio) along with some Angels, is located immediately after the wagon drawn by two cows from which branches off a rope that will arrive to Saint Lucia (a girl of six years); between her and the cows there are Roman soldiers, who make their way through the crowd squirming like crazy; to hold the rope there are also male figures; the job of Devil (his mask is made of wood, whose invoice is dated, it seems, of the 400') is to distract the little Saint with the help of a long stick equipped of curved points, called "u 'croccu": Lucia hardly is deceived by the promises of the evil one, she will not abandon the state of her property concentration, aided in this by staring, almost in a trance, a small palm branch in silver , she brings devoutly in her hands.It's very important to mention the Baron Baldassarre (nicknamed Baron Altadonna), who applied without any hesitation the practice of Jus de seigneur: using this law the Baron obliged the young brides to spend the wedding night in his alcove. It 'very possible that in the representation of Saint Lucia of Savoca the character of the Devil tempting young Santa with his pitchfork, in reality is nothing but himself, Baron Altadonna, so allegorically described in this traditional Sicilian feast: the figure of the Devil if one takes into account what historians relate, does not belong more to the legend, but sadly to actual event happened.

E' una bruttissima storia quanto accaduto tre giorni fa, un uomo di 63 anni, ha ucciso a colpi di pistola in pieno volto due donne, una di 48 anni, l'altra di 49 anni, per poi togliersi la vita, il tutto accaduto in una cittadina in provincia di Catania, una di loro avrebbe avuto una relazione extraconiugale con l'assassino: nel 2022 sono state 120 le donne uccise, 97 di loro sono state uccise in ambito familiare o affettivo, di queste 57 hanno trovato la morte per mano del partner o ex partner. Questo tragico e triste incipit legato al sempre attuale dramma dei femminicidi, per introdurre il racconto fotografico che ho realizzato nella cittadina di Savoca (Messina - Sicilia) il 13/08/2022, di una particolarissima rappresentazione che si era tenuta l'ultima volta nell'agosto del 2018; è una narrazione che vede contrapposto il Male (un diavolo armato di un lungo rampino), al Bene (Santa Lucia, che stringe tra le mani una foglia di palma d'argento), il Male-Diavolo tenta di sedurre-distrarre Santa Lucia col proprio rampino, invece Santa Lucia resta impassibile davanti le sue lusinghe: la violenza sulle donne in questa rappresentazione molto suggestiva, trova radici lontane e profonde, Santa Lucia in realtà rappresenta quelle donne che in epoca medioevale dovevano subire gli abusi perpetrati dal Barone di Savoca soprannominato "Barone Altadonna", che avvalendosi della legge "ius primae noctis" (dal latino "diritto della prima notte"), si riferiva al “diritto” secondo cui un signore feudale poteva violentare una donna appena sposata durante la sua prima notte di nozze. Quindi questa è una narrazione fotografica che parla dell'eterna lotta che avviene tra il bene ed il male, che parla di un periodo buio della storia, che parla delle violenze subite dalle donne ma anche da tutti coloro che appartenevano alle classi sociali più povere, fatti storici che sono stati tramandati fino a noi in forma di racconto ed associati-trasmutati nel martirio di Santa Lucia, questo è quanto accade nel paese di Savoca (Sicilia). Questo è un report della rappresentazione vivente del martirio di Santa Lucia (Santa patrona della città di Savoca); il culto della giovane Santa di Siracusa sembra risalire al XV secolo, sotto l'influenza delle tradizioni spagnole. La rievocazione vivente della storia di Santa Lucia avviene in due giornate consecutive, il sabato e la domenica: qui tento di raccontare alcuni momenti della giornata del sabato, giorno durante il quale la festa non si svolge nel pieno della sua bellezza, è il giorno durante il quale “la palma d’argento” viene consegnata “dalla Lucia della edizione precedente” alla “Lucia dell’attuale edizione”, è il giorno durante il quale si testano gli ultimi dettagli, soprattutto si mette alla prova “l’impassibilità della bambina che impersona Santa Lucia”, chiamata amorevolmente “la Lucia”. E' questa una rievocazione storica che parla di Demoni ed Angeli: la storia rievoca di quando la Santa, si rifiutò di andare in sposa ad un suo ricco e potente pretendente (essendosi dichiarata Cristiana e sposa in Cristo), il quale per vendetta riferì della fede Cristiana di Lucia al prefetto Pascasio; costui diede ordine ai suoi pretoriani di trascinare Lucia con una corda fino ad un lupanare, un luogo di prostituzione; la leggenda narra che la Santa divenne pesantissima, si tentò allora di trascinarla con l'ausilio dei buoi, ma fu impossibile smuoverla da dove si trovava; non riuscendo in ciò, fu allora dato l'ordine di cavarle gli occhi, ma alla giovane martire (nativa di Siracusa) gli occhi le rispuntarono. Nel paese di Savoca una giovane ragazza, chiamata con affetto "la Lucia" viene portata in spalla lungo le vie del paese (seduta su di un cuscino legato sulla spalla di un uomo; in realtà gli uomini portatori sono due, dandosi il cambio l'un l'altro); la giovane Santa rimane impassibile di fronte alle tentazioni demoniache: il Diavolo, chiamato in dialetto siciliano "u Diavulazzu, agita, scuote, fa ruotare il suo forcone nel tentativo di "distrarre" la Santa ma, vani saranno i suoi tentativi. Il primo giorno di questa rappresentazione, il sabato, in una vecchia chiesa di Savoca, le due bambine che impersonano la Lucia, dell'anno in corso e dell'anno precedente, si incontrano con la consegna della palma da una bimba all'altra; l'evento tradizionale al quale si assiste il sabato, ha tutto l'aspetto di una importante prova generale per il giorno dopo, quando la domenica la festa tradizionale avverrà in tutta la sua bellezza. La domenica: in cima alla processione ci sono i "Giudei" (gli emissari del prefetto Pascasio) insieme ad alcuni Angeli, subito dopo si trova il carro tirato da due giumente dalle quali si diparte una corda che giungerà fino a cingere il fianco della bimba che impersona Santa Lucia (una bambina di sei anni); tra lei e le giumente ci sono i soldati Romani, che si fanno largo tra la folla dimenandosi a più non posso; a tenere la corda ci sono anche delle figure maschili che evitano che gli strattonamenti dei soldati romani possano giungere fino alla Santa (ricordiamolo, che è legata a quella corda); davanti alla Santa piroetta il diavolo tentatore, u' Diavulazzu (la maschera è in legno, la cui fattura è datata, sembra, del 400'), il cui compito è quello di distrarre la piccola Santa con l'aiuto di un lungo bastone dotato di punte ricurve, chiamato dialettalmente "u' croccu": Lucia difficilmente si lascerà ingannare dalle promesse del Maligno, non abbandonerà quel suo stato di immobile concentrazione, aiutata in ciò dal fissare, quasi in stato di trance, un piccolo ramo di palma in argento, che lei stringe devotamente tra le sue mani. E’ fondamentale menzionare tra i vari personaggi storici della tradizione, il barone Baldassarre, vissuto in Savoca in epoca medioevale, soprannominato barone Altadonna, che applicava senza remora alcuna la pratica della Jus primae noctis: avvalendosi di questa legge il barone obbligava le giovani spose a trascorrere la prima notte di nozze nella sua alcova. E’ fortemente ipotizzabile che nella rappresentazione di Santa Lucia di Savoca il personaggio del Diavolo che tenta la giovane Santa col suo forcone, in realtà non sia altro che egli stesso, il barone Altadonna, così allegoricamente descritto nella festa tradizionale siciliana: la figura del Diavolo, se si tiene conto di quanto narrano gli storici, non apparterrebbe più alla leggenda, ma a questo tristo personaggio realmente vissuto, che usava quotidianamente la moneta della prepotenza.
Cromwell Tank:
Tank, Cruiser, Mk VIII, Cromwell (A27M),[nb 1] and the related Centaur tank, were one of the most successful series of cruiser tanks fielded by Britain in the Second World War. The Cromwell tank, named after the English Civil War leader Oliver Cromwell, was the first tank in the British arsenal to combine a dual-purpose gun, high speed from the powerful and reliable Meteor engine, and reasonable armour, all in one balanced package. Its design formed the basis of the Comet tank.
The Cromwell and Centaur differed in the engine used. While the Centaur had the Liberty engine of the predecessor cruiser tank, the Crusader, the Cromwell had the significantly more powerful Meteor. Aside from the engine and associated transmission differences, the two tanks were effectively the same and many Centaurs built were given the Meteor to make them Cromwells.
The Cromwell first saw action in the Battle of Normandy in June 1944. The tank equipped the armoured reconnaissance regiments, of the Royal Armoured Corps, within the 7th, 11th, and Guards Armoured Divisions. While the armoured regiments of the latter two divisions were equipped with M4 Shermans, the armoured regiments of the 7th Armoured Division were fully equipped with Cromwell tanks. The Centaurs were not generally used for combat except for those fitted with a 95mm Howitzer which were used in support of the Royal Marines during the invasion of Normandy.
