Majestic Cinque Torri peaks rise dramatically against a stormy sky, a breathtaking landscape rendered in striking black and white.

A rainstorm was on its way out on Saturday, and its remnants lingered on Yosemite's highest points.

Last year I did two trips to the Southwest and found the landscape to be both breathtaking and jaw-dropping. There's just so much amazing scenery out in Utah and Arizona and I knew I had to go back. Andy and I found a cheap flight into Grand Junction, CO and made a quick 1.5 hour drive over to Moab.

The first two days we met up with Phill Monson and visited all around Moab, Arches and Cayonlands National Parks. We witnessed sunset at Delicate Arch, light painted with the tail of the Milky Way at Double Arch, saw a beautiful sunrise at Mesa Arch and amazing grand views at Green River Viewpoint, did a short hike to Bow Tie Arch and Corona Arch (and saw people bungie jumping off Corona!), and lastly hunted down False Kiva for sunset. By the time we got back to the hotel on Saturday night we had decided we had seen enough and wanted to head to Monument Valley, which isn't close to anything convenient, but was only 2 hours from where we were.

It took us a couple hours to make our way south towards the Arizona border but we eventually made our way into the Navajo Nation and the familiar scenes of Monument Valley came into view. I say familiar because I can remember seeing these mesas, buttes, and spires from the age of 6 when I first played the computer game "Oregon Trail" on an old Apple IIGS. After stopping at the iconic "Mile 13" we drove into Monument Valley, paid the $5/person entry fee, and then drove through the 17 mile dirt road in our little (crappy) rental car.

After having a weekend of boring skies, cloud had finally rolled in and we debated where we wanted to photograph the sunset! I haven't had much luck shooting east for sunset and we decided to head back to Mile 13 since the view faced southwest. It was actually a lot of fun having to run into the road, setup the tripod real quick, snap a few shots, and then run out of the way as cars drove by from both in front and behind us.

Looking down at my watch I noticed that the sun had set and we only had a touch of color in the sky above "Stagecoach", "Saddleback", and "King on his Throne" mesas. To our right, further west, I could see beautiful pinks. As we waited the color started moving closer and closer to the mesas. I started screaming "KEEP COMING, KEEP COMING. JUST A LITTLE FURTHER!" Sure enough 5 minutes later the sky lit up with amazing pinks, even providing a nice frame above the mesas. The color was so bright, in fact, that I had to tone down the saturation a bit to make this actually look believable! I also debated removing the cars from the road but ultimately felt it gave the scene more place and helped draw the eye in.

If you look closely, you’ll spot tiny human figures on the trail — a subtle yet powerful reminder of how grand and awe-inspiring the Tre Cime di Lavaredo truly are. The scale is almost incomprehensible without this human reference.

Sometimes nature reveals unexpected, fleeting moments of beauty. After a slow careful ascent from Heardman's Plantation and up The Nab I was rewarded with one of the most amazing displays of light I've ever seen, when a gap opened up in the thick cloud, illuminating Grindslow Knoll and the snow suspended in the air by the terrific winds.

After taking only two exposures, I decided to sit and watch what was unfolding infront of me and made sure that I truly took it all in, without the lens.

An awe-inspiring view of a winding mountain trail leading to breathtaking summits. The rolling green ridges, rugged alpine terrain, and dramatic clouds create a scene that invites adventure, exploration, and a connection with nature’s raw beauty.

In the heart of Tenerife’s volcanic landscape, resilient green shrubs thrive against all odds. The striking contrast between the black lava rocks, vibrant vegetation, and deep blue Atlantic Ocean creates a mesmerizing natural scene that showcases the island’s rugged beauty.

The earth remembers fire.

We remember wind.

Beneath the watchful gaze of Rukapillan, time bends—stretching between the ancient rumble of the volcano and the sharp whisper of our boards slicing through snow. This is where legends linger: in the stillness before the drop, in the crackle of anticipation between two riders standing on the edge of everything.

The mountain doesn’t care if we’re ready.

But we are.

A breathtaking view over the lush green mountains of Anaga, Tenerife. The dramatic clouds weave through the valleys, highlighting the untouched beauty of this mystical landscape. A winding road disappears into the dense foliage, inviting adventurers to explore the heart of this subtropical paradise.

Always wanted to drive the Pacific Coast Highway, probably one of the best drives ever, and one stunning view after another. Must have put about 4 hours onto the trip from constantly stopping and taking in the stunning scenery.

The Edge of the World near Riyadh is one of Saudi Arabia’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Towering cliffs drop dramatically into the vast desert floor, creating endless views that seem to stretch beyond the horizon. Watching the golden light paint the rugged landscape is an unforgettable reminder of the raw beauty and scale of nature

Kinder Scout Hike Pt.2:

I passed a few scenes I'd shot before and was very tempted to re-shoot them with a new season and different conditions. I wanted to press on however and I was excited to see what views would unfold.

On the Pennine Way, I moved carefully along the boulder carpeted trail taking in all of the shapes and details looking for that magic combination that just "worked" for me.

About a quarter of a mile north of the Kinder Low trig point I found what I was looking for; the thin, defined diagonal layers of the gritstone combined with the softer less obvious but still present diagonals of edge of the plateau towards Sandy Heys tied the subject and background nicely together for me.

The other magic element (the light) was a little subtler, the clouds were thin enough in places to allow some highlights on the landscape but diffuse enough to have well balanced natural contrast. Speaking of magic, this location is perfectly aligned to catch some fantastic light at sunset and this list is very high on my list to shoot of an evening.

Delicate remnants of a warmer time are embraced by the first snow. A quiet moment of transition, captured in nature’s minimalist palette.

Why not view the set as a slide-show?

Also I often upload more than one image at the same time, I see a tendency to only view the last uploaded...

So I am finally getting to work on some more of my pictures from my trip to the mountains a couple months back.

This was a beautiful sunset over some sunflower fields my girlfriend and I came across while visiting the Biltmore Estate. The sun never really did break through the clouds but you could tell it really wanted to. It would have also been great to have some healthy sunflowers to work with but we can't always get everything we want into one shot.

A view I'm becoming infatuated with, I love how the reflection of scattered light off the waters surface gives it a slightly different hue every time I photograph it.
