American Municipal Power (AMP) Ohio has been working on retrofitting old locks and dams to generate environmentally friendly hydropower. To minimize the impact on the river and aquatic life, they are using mast-mounted data logging systems to monitor dissolved oxygen and temperature levels at multiple sites.

We went to the Lower Great Miami River with Wright State University scientists to get a first-hand look at their dual nutrient study. Daniel Hoffman (left) and Lee Slone gathered more sediment core samples as we wrapped up the interview and headed back to the office.

These turtles are being handled under a research permit. It is not ok to handle wild animals and especially endangered ones.
