This portrait captures a compelling moment between a woman and an owl, showcasing a warm interaction in a serene indoor setting. I used a 32mm focal length at f/1.8 which beautifully isolated the subjects from the background, achieving a smooth, creamy bokeh that enhances the focus on their expressions and the textures of their clothing and feathers. The ISO of 320 and a shutter speed of 1/160 were expertly chosen to balance the indoor lighting conditions, resulting in a well-lit and sharp image without any noticeable noise.
The composition skillfully places the owl as a visual anchor in the frame, drawing my eye to the bird and then to the woman's engaged expression. This interaction adds a narrative element to the photo, enhancing the storytelling aspect of the image. The entire framing is well-executed, including the woman's elbow within the frame, which helps in maintaining the integrity of her pose and the balance of the composition. Overall, the photo is emotive and visually pleasing, effectively capturing a moment of admiration and connection.
CIFOR-ICRAF joined global leaders to highlight the urgency of wetland protection—and the need to turn science into action.
Wetlands may cover less than 1% of Earth’s surface, but they support over a billion people, store carbon, regulate water, and anchor food systems.
Yet they’re disappearing three times faster than forests.
This COP is a critical moment to shift from awareness to implementation—placing wetlands at the heart of climate, nature, and development solutions.

This portrait effectively captures the enthusiasm and camaraderie of volunteers at an environmental event. The use of a 20mm focal length at f/5.6 has allowed for both subjects and their surroundings to be in clear focus, emphasizing their engagement and the context of their activity. The ISO 100 and shutter speed of 1/125 are well-suited for the bright outdoor lighting, resulting in vibrant colors and good detail without overexposure. One area for improvement might be the composition; the wide-angle lens slightly distorts the edges, which could be adjusted by either stepping back slightly or zooming in a bit to focus more on the subjects. Additionally, the background activity is slightly distracting; a shallower depth of field could help the subjects stand out more. Overall, the image is dynamic and conveys a positive message, capturing a moment of genuine interaction.
