In the middle, CA-60, the Moreno Valley Expressway which, considering the way things are happening, should be renamed Distribution Valley Expressway……
On the left edge is the new Amazon distribution center that’s in an adjacent picture, and behind me is the slightly older Amazon distribution center in the ‘Amazon Cloud’ picture. Considering the speed at which this area is becoming distribution centers, probably all of the vacant land on the left side of the picture will soon be distribution centers. The housing on the right side of the picture is all new and the development is still filling out. While the homes look like typical, relatively large, California homes, the number of cars out front of them suggest they may be relatively large families with multiple people probably working in distribution centers.
About 8 miles further west on the freeway (to the left in the picture) is the Moreno Valley area which is seemingly being taken over by distribution centers – and about 25 miles east (behind me) is Desert Hot Springs/north Palm Springs which is planning for several large distribution centers. (Does anybody make anything, or does just everything get distributed?)
Apologies for the poor quality of the pictures, the barrenness, bright sun, wind, and construction traffic made getting good pictures difficult

Metal Theft
9.
Chris Kelly (Dudley South) (Con):
What assessment she has made of the implications for her policy on waste of the Government’s strategy on metal theft.[97382]
The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Mrs Caroline Spelman):
I believe it is important to crack down on all those involved in metal theft, including rogue scrap yard operators who fuel the crime. That is why we are working collectively across Government to take a range of enforcement and legislative measures that will make stolen metal too hot to handle.
Chris Kelly:
Does the Secretary of State share my view that scrap yards that knowingly facilitate this crime are just as responsible as those that actually commit the theft? In line with that, will she make sure that this important clampdown is pursued with vigour, as urged by the widely supported all-party parliamentary group on combating metal theft?
Mrs Spelman:
I commend my hon. Friend, who made an excellent speech on this subject on 7 February. Like me, he comes from the west midlands, which is badly affected. Let me reassure him that we will certainly pursue this matter with vigour. I support the ban on cash payments for the purchase of scrap metal and, indeed, the increase in penalties under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964, which will provide the police with greater powers to enter illegal sites as well as registered sites.

The graphic shows an outline of the areas within the Ferghana Valley which are subjects to disputes over water resources and borders, disputes between private and collective farmers, deforestation and overuse of pasture. The map also show areas of industrial pollution and chemical risks caused by badly maintained radioactive dumps, tailing containments and several working industrial facilities.

With growing population and infrastructures the world’s exposure to natural hazards is inevitably increasing. This is particularly true as the strongest population growth is located in coastal areas (with greater exposure to floods, cyclones and tidal waves). To make matters worse any land remaining available for urban growth is generally risk-prone, for instance flood plains or steep slopes subject to landslides. The statistics in this graphic reveal an exponential increase in disasters. This raises several questions. Is the increase due to a significant improvement in access to information? What part does population growth and infrastructure development play? Finally, is climate change behind the increasing frequency of natural hazards.
