Design Challenge entry: 'Tulip pockets in 1960s colors, after Mary Quant, by Su_G' in a pillow sham mockup (c/o Roostery): combining three loves: tulips, Mary Quant dresses, and pockets. My entry in the 1960s Design Challenge. © Su Schaefer 2018

After a famous dress by Mary Quant under the Ginger Group label, that’s an utterly plain & simple A-line, with the sole decoration being the 'tulip' on the pocket with matching trim in the same color on the hem, sleeve & neck as well as the pocket. A sixties classic.

This was my entry into Windsor Photographic Society mono competition for 25th March 2024. Amanda Wright was the judge and it was commended so pleasing result.

The image was actually a composite and was taken on an iPhone 13 Pro Max for the main background, on a really cold icy frosty and misty morning - 2nd December 2024. The event was a social walk for the camera club.

But the image lacked something in my opinion.

It needed some feature or wildlife and waiting for swans to turn up clearly was not going to happen. So a cut and paste of swans I took back in 2012 in Langley Park seemed the best option.

These were added in and then I used Flaming Pear - Flood2 filter to create the reflection in the dark water area under this bridge. Bit of tidying up and then just needed to enhance the mist.

Used one of my cloud shots and after a few YouTube videos got the mist I liked.

Added some more mist patches using brush and the de-haze feature in Lightroom but adding negative dehaze (ie. slide to the left the de-haze).

In the competition 11 images were held back and mine got a commended, thanks go to the judge.

LOOKING BACK

Its been a hell of a year as far as design is concern. This year was the first time I’ve ever posted my work on the web. With the combined exposure I've received from Bittbox and deviantART, I've gained many friends from all points of the globe. Design is truly an international affair with unlimited boundaries.

LOOKING AHEAD

The future can be as scary as a troubled past or as bright as a new beginning. Either way there is always something there waiting for you. It’s up to you to find out what it truly is. Setting goals and exercising ambition are one of the main ingredients in realizing what this gift MIGHT be . . . however you’ll probably never really know for sure. I myself have absolutely no clue. What I do know is that I want to leave a legacy. I want my work to speak louder than I ever could. And in doing so, inspire nations to express themselves to their full capacity and bring as many people with me as I can.

Care to join me? When armed with creativity, we can do anything.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I was meant to be organizing a photowalk but that was swiftly called off due to the weather, which was a little bit grim and not something that this fairweather photographer wants to be out in. Instead I pretty much just watched TV all weekend, playing a little bit of Tomb Raider and processed a couple of images.

I contemplated heading to the tube to take a few snaps down there, but laziness won over and I opted instead to simply process an image from down there – et voila.

This was taken at Liverpool St Station. I had wandered down to the Westbound Central Line to go home and there were a couple of minutes to wait for a train. Most of the access to the platform seemed to be blocked off, but the large door just behind me was ajar so I poked my head in to see if there were any decent images, and that’s when I was faced with this set of unused escalators with this nice ribbon type thing over them.

For processing, I tonemapped 3 exposures and then mostly used a selection of OnOne filters which were manually brushed in, followed by a little Tonal Contrast and Low Key additions from the Nik Color Efex plugin.

This is my second entry to Slight.of Brick's fantasy minifigure contest. Left to right;

Agragha: The group healer. She is a foul creature with fat, slimy tentacles for arms, and no eyes, for she sees with magic. However, she can still practice magic, which she uses not only to heal her teammates, but also to materialize magic weapons.

General Henry the evil hermit crab: A group warrior. I already explained his backstory in a previous post, which he is also featured in more. He most likely time traveled or something.

The Lord Kefoun: The group warlock/warrior. Once an all-powerful, evil magic entity, the Lord Kefoun was put into a mortal body by higher power for misuse of his gifts. He is still, however, extremely strong and can teleport around his enemies to misdirect them. He wields a broadsword, along with a double-bladed shield-axe powered by Agragha's magic. He also wears the crown of a tyrant of ancient times.

Tyron Graffus: A group warrior. He was once a proud winged warrior under the king of a distant land; until he was cursed by the Lord Kefoun. Half of his body and armor were corrupted, and is partially a slave due to his frequent mind swings. Since you can't see him so well, I've posted him alone on my photostream.

Blabbus Blibbunio: The group- uhhh... actually, I have no idea what use he has to the group. Blabbus Blibbunio is of unknown origin, found in the haunted woods by Agragha blabbering and flailing his arms about. She was amused by him, and kept him as a sort of pet, much to the dismay of the rest of the party. He is more of a nuisance than anything, accidentally(and constantly) slashing his party members with his knife and forcing Agragha to heal them. He has some rusty old armor on his right arm and leg, and wields a knife(a decision made by Agragha which is still questioned by the other members of the party).

And again I have to post something that Piotrek posted last year. Fortunately, our framing was different again, so at least it's not a 1:1 copy.

The title sums up the inspiration for a trip to Germany last year. That is, visiting my sister in NRW, at whom we had a set-off base. The two of us visited some German railway pecularities (Piotrek longer by one week), with particular emphasis on diesel locomotives and mechanical signalling.

Well, we actually have these two features in this picture. It's Monday, July 25 in Klanxbüll in Schleswig-Holstein (more precisely - North Frisia), and the InterCity train no. 2311 from Westerland auf Sylt to Stuttgart is passing the entrance semaphore of the local station, or simply passing loop. At the forefront is a duo of locomotives of the 216 class (the first one number #390), which are becoming rare at DB Fernverkehr, diesel engines of the design dating back to the first half of the 1970s.

I do not want to write more on the circumstances of this photo and the area around, because this is a good reason for another story that surely appears soon. So let's focus on the photo and very intreresting (from Polish point of view) feature - an old entry semaphore installed also on the left track.

About a title. Well, literally everyone knows that the Germans introduced a special killer-offer in the period June - August 2022, a ticket for 9 euros, which entitled to an unlimited number of trips in a calendar month, by means of regional public transport. Therefore, we could travel by S-Bahn, RegionalBahn and RegionalExpress trains, regional buses, all public transport in cities, and even several ferries in the country (I haven't tested this one though). It would be a terminal sin not to take the advantage of such an opportunity.

Paradoxally, the train in the picture is not covered by this promotion, because IC and ICE trains were forbidden fruits for 9ET holders, just same like FlixTrains.

And I'm already awaiting a ticket for 49 euros and the next trip to Germany, longer this year. This is almost certain.

W związku z tym do dyspozycji mamy pociągi S-Bahn, RegionalBahn i RegionalExpress, autobusy lokalne, komunikację miejską w miastach, a nawet kilka promów.

Here in Alaska, we consider this an Arctic Entry or in some regions a mud room.

These are crucial here in Fairbanks these arctic entrances create a temperature transition zone between entrance doors, in order to minimize the amount of cold air entering buildings by opening one door at a time.

Also, in this case acts as a diversion for the snow off the sloped main roof.
