Shelbie visited us today.

After fighting clouds during our entire stay by the bridge at Luverne, a spot of sun finally appeared just as the head end of the last train we saw crossed the bridge.

The Peabody Hotel, completed in 1925, occupies the entire block bounded by Union Avenue, Second & Third Streets, and an un-named alley in Downtown Memphis. Built to replace the old Peabody which had stood at Main & Monroe Streets since 1869, both hotels were named for financier George Peabody, who had been a close friend of founder Robert Campbell Brinkley. Designed by the architectural firm of Walter W. Ahlschlager, Inc., it was the symbolic center of the social, cultural, and commercial life of the Mid-South region for over fifty years. It was also the largest and most elegant hotel in the south and represented the area's finest example of the opulence, grandeur, and complexity which characterized the era of the grand hotel.

With its grand opening ball in 1925, the hotel quickly established a reputation as the center of social life for the entire region. The Peabody's Night-Cap Club, Venetian Dining Room, and open-air Marine Roof (later partially enclosed and known as the Skyway and where the famous sign in the photograph above is located) soon became institutions among the socially elite of both Memphis and the rich Mississippi River delta areas of West Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, and northern Mississippi. The later 1920's, 1930's, and 1940's saw a steady stream of the wealthy and prominent flock to the Peabody to dine and dance to the music of such entertainers as George Hamilton, Les Brown, Harry James, Dorothy Lamour, Benny Goodman, and the Andrews Sisters. Beginning in 1937, the music of the Peabody's bands was broadcast nationwide on CBS radio.

As David Cohn wrote in 1935, "The Mississippi Delta begins in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel and ends on Catfish Row in Vicksburg. The Peabody is the Paris Ritz, the Cairo Shepheard's, the London Savoy of this section. If you stand near its fountain in the middle of the lobby, where ducks waddle and turtles drowse, ultimately you will see everybody who is anybody in the Delta..."

The Peabody, as it's known to most, was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on September 14, 1977. All the information above was found on the original documents submitted for listing consideration and can be viewed here:

The photograph above was taken with a handheld Galaxy S21 and additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

Tidbits about Mount Adams:

Known as Pah-to by the land’s original inhabitants, the 12,276-foot Mount Adams is the second-tallest mountain in the state. Only Mount Rainier is higher at 14,411 feet.

[[an old Yakama Elder was once quoted explaining that all the volcanic peaks were referred to as Pah-to, the Big People, and were honored and respected. This particular peak is known as Klickitat (Klik-a-tat) by local tribes.]]

• The first recorded sighting by whites was by Lewis and Clark in 1805. They and other early explorers mistook Mount Adams for Mount St. Helens, which had already been discovered by Pacific Ocean explorers. Some confusion continued until 1853, when the Pacific Railroad expedition mapped the mountain as Mount Adams.

• The generally accepted first ascent of Mount Adams was in 1854, when a group of men belonging to a military road work party made the summit.

www.yakimaherald.com/news/local/take-a-peek-at-some-fasci...

* "Presidential Range":

"Mount Adams was named after the 2nd President of the United States, John Adams. a name which survives from an 1839 scheme by Hall J. Kelly to make the Cascades the Presidential Range. Kelly intended the name Adams to go to Mount Hood -- he left the mountain in Washington out of the plan entirely. However, the person who mapped the mountains mixed up Kelly's names and put the name Mount Adams 40 miles in the wrong direction -- where there happened to be a mountain ready to bear the name. "Mount Adams" stuck firmly after 1853, when the Pacific Railroad Expedition put the name on their map."

What a legend. Among so many significant people, Westminster Abbey in London is the final resting place of the eminent scientist Stephen Hawking. The equation expresses his idea that black holes in the universe are not entirely black but emit a glow, that would become known as Hawking radiation.

Not entirely convinced by this crop, but hey ho, i'll probably redo it tomorrow. Taken just as the sun set this afternoon high up in Dinorwic Quarry. Highest i've been there.

Good morning everyone. I'm back and pleased to present a series today featuring an entire Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) family. Both a male and female juvenile, and both parents. A series I planned on posting last Friday, but couldn't due to us having to deal with major tree and yard damage from a severe storm the day before.

As for the Pileated Woodpecker family, all four have been regular visitors, almost daily, and the juveniles in many cases visit with one of the parents. And maybe it's just a coincidence, but the female juvenile is always with the mother, while the male is with the father.

Kind of a long series starting with the above pic of the female juvenile (on the left) and mother. I also included individual pics of the juveniles as well as one of them together. Plus one pic of the adult male/father.

Please note that while males have a red stripe on the cheek, which the female lacks, the male also has entirely red crest. The adult female as you can see on the above right doesn't have a full red crest that covers the entire head, but the red ends at a dusky gray forehead.

And for those of you not familiar with this bird please keep in mind that they are a very large woodpecker ranging from 15.7 - 19.3 inches (40 - 49 cm) in length with a wingspan of 26 - 29.5 inches (66 - 75 cm).

With that said, please don't forget to click on "view previous comments" if you don't see the additional pics in the comment section. Even better, scroll through them by clicking on the arrow thingy to the right of the above pic. And if you want to view any picture in the comment section large all you have to do is click on it where you'll also find some text describing the nesting habits of this magnificent woodpecker.

Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you have a truly great day and week.

No man is an island,

Entire of itself.

Each is a piece of the continent,

A part of the main.

If a clod be washed away by the sea,

Europe is the less.

As well as if a promontory were.

As well as if a manner of thine own

Or of thine friend's were.

Each man's death diminishes me,

For I am involved in mankind.

From the news reports:

"A 15-year-old Greek student was killed last night by the Greek police, at 21:50 Standard Greek Time, at Exarhia Square, downtown Athens. The policemen claimed that the 15-year-old was part of a group which surrounded their police car and tried to break the windows. The police claim that they attempted to disperse the crowd using flashbang grenades. Failing that, one of the policemen fired a bullet from his gun, which, as he said, allegedly ricocheted off a marque and struck the fifteen year old in the heart.

The fifteen year old was pronounced dead 15 minutes later at "Evaggelismos Hospital".

The police car was registered with the Exarhia Square police department.

Since last night, there's violent battles between riot squads and protesters in downtown Athens as well as all major Greek cities. At this time there's no end in sight... "

When a 15 year old kid is killed, there's not much to say...

Whatever the circumstances, whichever the reason, regardless of any excuse or pretense... no gun, absolutely no gun, should ever be pointed at any kid... particularly an unarmed kid... Period!

It's a shame for our society and an unbearable burden to live with... It's an imposiible to justify crime against the Greek youth, against democracy, against basic society values...

Right now, I am not asking who, what, how... I am certainly not asking for whom the bell tolls - it could toll for every man and woman, for every father and mother, for their children as well... FOR OUR CHILDREN!..

In the year 2008, all people around the world have every right to expect, to demand that disputes of any kind be resolved by reason and by reason only, with no weapons and no violence involved... The Los Angeles and Paris riots - to name only a few relatively recent cases - should have taught us all a thing or two about how best to avoid major social crises, while there's still time...

Next to Darth Vader, these three men are the most brutal members of the empire in the entire galaxy!

Third Brother: One of the many Inquisitors at the empire's disposal, Third Brother is Commandant Airsko's favorite. This due to his determination and ability to get the job done at a quick pace.

He once destroyed an entire resistance base and walked out with out a scratch.

Unlike most Inquisitors, Third Brother uses a standard light saber but with one small add on. One end is the lightsaber it self and at the other end is a force spike. This weapon makes Third Brother a formidable foe.

Commandant Airsko: Due to him being a key member in Chancellor Palpatine inner circle, he was given a high position in the Empire as Commandant.

His job is to control the flow of smuggled goods into imperial systems.

In the Empire, he is known for brutally interrogating smugglers. When he interrogates someone, he uses a pair of electrified gauntlets (they're the Star Wars equivalent to brass knuckles). When he is finished with them, he jettisons them into space! When he wants to make a display, he jettisons the smuggler, his cargo ship, and his crew into a star.

Strike Commander Florence: He is Commandant Airsko's second in command. Airsko usually sends Florence to due his dirty work.

Strike Commander Florence takes joy in destroying resistance groups and crushing spirits.

You can walk the entire length of Oberstraase, the main street of Bacharach, in about ten minutes. However, on our first outing in the village, my wife and I took a more leisurely approach and spent an hour or so photographing the half-timbered houses, wandering the side streets, and soaking up the unpretentious charm of this delightful riverside town.

Wonderful textures by Kerstin Frank & Skeletal Mess.

actually.......it's a prayer for the entire world.

We MUST not dwell on our differences, rather EMBRACE the things we ALL have in common as human beings walking this earth.

It's time to put aside politics, religion, ethnicity. It's time to say NO to the hate.

If we do not, I fear we are doomed as a species.

The change starts with each and every one of us.......one heart at a time.

God bless us all.

This spectacular “blue marble” image is the most detailed true-color image of the entire Earth to date. Using a collection of satellite-based observations, scientists and visualizers stitched together months of observations of the land surface, oceans, sea ice, and clouds into a seamless, true-color mosaic of every square kilometer (.386 square mile) of our planet. These images are freely available to educators, scientists, museums, and the public. This record includes preview images and links to full resolution versions up to 21,600 pixels across.

Much of the information contained in this image came from a single remote-sensing device-NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS. Flying over 700 km above the Earth onboard the Terra satellite, MODIS provides an integrated tool for observing a variety of terrestrial, oceanic, and atmospheric features of the Earth. The land and coastal ocean portions of these images are based on surface observations collected from June through September 2001 and combined, or composited, every eight days to compensate for clouds that might block the sensor’s view of the surface on any single day. Two different types of ocean data were used in these images: shallow water true color data, and global ocean color (or chlorophyll) data. Topographic shading is based on the GTOPO 30 elevation dataset compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey’s EROS Data Center. MODIS observations of polar sea ice were combined with observations of Antarctica made by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s AVHRR sensor—the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer. The cloud image is a composite of two days of imagery collected in visible light wavelengths and a third day of thermal infra-red imagery over the poles. Global city lights, derived from 9 months of observations from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program, are superimposed on a darkened land surface map.

It's been, what...three, four years since my last proper MOC? Well, now that I know I'll be renting the same room for the rest of my time at university, I moved a good chunk of my collection in with me and went on a Bricklink spree.

Then I had a quick conversation with EB member LilMeFromDaFuture, (www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=112692&s...) and he was looking into different combinations of slopes to minimize the stepped effect of SNOT wings. Well, if you really want to get rid of that stepped edge, you flip the entire thing around and put the flat edge on the outside, right? So I did that.

You would think walking alone in the woods early in the morning would feel lonely, but there is something comforting about being surrounded entirely by trees with no one around. It feels very peaceful, especially in winter when it is so quiet. With this photo here, I hoped to convey that feeling of being absolutely and entirely encircled by nothing but trees.

I have always enjoyed making compositions like this. It's like a game where the goal is to make the sky disappear. One inch to the left, one inch down, slight tilt, etc. Micro movements making gaps in the trees vanish, only to have new ones reappear. It is very satisfying when you can crack the code and cover all of the empty spaces.

While I enjoyed the compositional challenge this scene presented, the main thing that caught my eye about this scene was the color. The subtle greens, purples, and reds in the bark presented an interesting color palette, especially for a winter photo. Who says every winter photo has to be about snow and ice, right?

And I probably should not admit how self-satisfied I am with the double meaning of this photo title. It's an ode to the bark, but the vertical lines of the trunks also look like a barcode. I'm making dad joke photo titles a thing and there is nothing anyone can do to stop me.

Seems entirely reasonable to me...

Despite the bright sun, the temperature in Kingman only managed to reach 11 Centigrade/52 Fahrenheit today, a sharp contrast to the previous day when it was a warm 23/73. The stiff breeze made it feel cooler still.

It has to be preferable to being knee deep in Canadian snow though...

The entire tail section (horizontal and vertical stabilizers) of Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose was designed and built in-house as well as the control surfaces, (elevator and rudder) which were constructed out of balsa wood with foam core to save weight.

Actually, the entire railroad was relaxing today when I went to visit. The Chesapeake & Indiana is one neat operation, if only I could see it operate. Every time i explore the CKIN, nothing is moving, which is getting frustrating. I know the railroad looks to be doing well, so it must be my bad luck. i was fortunate enough to find the 818 and 813 just south of the elevator in Wellsboro. Both were originally part of the DM&IR, one a SD18 and the other a SD9. They were chop-nosed, rebuilt and called SDM's. Neither one has been repainted yet in the classic Southern scheme. As much as I like that one, I hope the 818 stays in orange.

Silves (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈsilvɨʃ] ⓘ) is a city and municipality in the Portuguese region of Algarve, in southern Portugal.[1] The population of the entire municipality of Silves in 2011 was 37,126,[2] in an area of 680.06 km2.[3] The urbanized area of the city proper has approximately 11,000 inhabitants. Silves is the former capital of the Kingdom of the Algarve (1249–1910), a nominal kingdom within the Kingdom of Portugal (1139-1910), and is of great historical importance.[4]

History

See also: Portuguese Conquest of Algarve

The region of Silves has been inhabited since the Palaeolithic, as attested by archaeological remains, including several menhirs. The river Arade, which was navigable in historical times, linked the hinterland to the open ocean and allowed the transport of produce and commerce. The town of Silves (Cilpes) was possibly founded during the times of Roman domination, when the region was part of the Lusitania province. It was probably a Lusitanian Castro in pre-Roman times;[5] however the region was also settled by other Indo-European tribes, such as the Celtici and Cynetes (or Conii). Silves was once also part of the Visigothic Kingdom (418–c. 721).

After 713, when the Moors invaded Iberia, Silves became part of the Umayyad Emirate of Córdoba under the Arabic name of Shilb (شلب). In the 10th century it was one of the most important towns in western Al-Andalus. Silves became an independent taifa in 1027 under the rule of Ibn Mozaine and his son, who was dethroned in 1051 by al-Mu'tadid, the governor of Seville. al-Mu'tamid ibn 'Abbad, the son of al-Mu'tadid and a famous poet, ruled the taifa of Silves until 1091. After the Almoravid conquest the town became Almohad in 1156.

In 1189, King Sancho I of Portugal conquered the town with the aid of Northern European crusaders.[6] Sancho ordered the fortification of the city and built a castle, which is today an important monument of Portuguese heritage. At the time he also styled himself "By the Grace of God, King of Portugal and Silves (Dei Gratiæ, Rex Portugalliæ et Silbis). However, he soon lost the town again to the Almohads after sieges in 1190 and 1191. Periodic raiding expeditions were sent from Al-Andalus to ravage the Iberian Christian kingdoms, bringing back booty and slaves. The governor of Córdoba attacked Silves in 1191, and took 3,000 Christian slaves.[7] Again under Muslim rule, the city would then prosper to the point of being called the Baghdad of the West.

The town was finally taken from the last Muslim king Ibn Afan by Paio Peres Correia, Grand-Master of the Order of Santiago in 1242, after the Alentejo and most of the coast had already fallen in 1238. The great mosque was changed into Silves Cathedral (Sé Catedral). Silves declined in importance thereafter and was eclipsed in the region by Faro during the colonial period. In 1491, the town of Silves was given to queen Eleanora by her husband, king John II of Portugal.

In the 19th century, Silves became an important centre for the Portuguese cork industry. The industry's decline began after cork factory workers, instigated by communist and anarcho-syndicalist organizations resorting to coercion at gunpoint, supported the failed Portuguese general strike of 1934, after which the authoritarian Estado Novo regime retaliated by effectively closing down the industry in the town.[8]

In the 21st century, the municipality became host to The Iberian Lynx National Breeding Center (Silves' Center). wikipedia

Love you daddy...

I'll See You Again by Westlife

From your daughter Carmen ~

Daddy,

Thank You for your love of family and others. It is something I will cherish. I will go forward and lead with love and compassion for others as you did.

June 11, 2023 is a day etched in my heart.

I cry often…because I can’t seem to accept you are not physically with us anymore.

One thing is certain…spiritually you are with us.

That is a great comfort to know.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

A memory for me and my dad that I’ll always cherish was when I was around fourteen years old. One day, I just said out loud, to the airwaves, not to anyone specific, “I would love to play guitar”. Apparently, I didn’t know it, but my dad overheard me. That Christmas, my dad surprised me with a guitar. I was so happy, words couldn’t express. My dad knew how to play guitar and taught me the basics. Playing guitar was not only a great pastime for me, but playing my guitar made me happier when I was happy and it pulled me out of sadness if I was sad. My day started by playing guitar…literally…I would get up out of bed, pick up my guitar and play songs. I learned how to play guitar quickly. As a result, I sang and played guitar in high school concerts, at mass in church and then progressed to wedding ceremonies. I’ve met so many people through music. The musical path in my life was definitely one I will never forget. I was so blessed to have been able to share music with others.

The entire State of Wisconsin definitely got wet this week. Rain and thunderstorms were almost never-ending. During this particular morning at Harrington State Beach, the access water was draining out of the wooded area and onto the beach. The water started carving canals out of the sand draining into Lake Michigan. As the water flowed it brought some traces of soil along with it. This really created some awesome patterns and compositions in the sand.

The Triton fountain, entirely carved in travertine, is composed of a small-height tub placed at ground level, above which there are four dolphins with an open mouth that emerge elegantly from the water. The latter, turning their tails and interweaving them, hold a large open bivalve shell, in the center of which the marine god Triton rises.

The water dripping from the shell, irradiates and absorbs all the work and finally collects in the pool below. Among the tails of the dolphins are artistically intertwined two papal coats of arms with the three bees, heraldic symbol of the Barberini family

The bees, in fact, are the heraldic symbol of the family, and allude to the triumph of Divine Providence. while the dolphins refer symbolically to the benefits bestowed by the papal family.

the motif of the four dolphins was taken over by a similar group of Nicolas Cordier destined for a fountain in the Vatican Gardens, which has now disappeared.

I set up my multiple flashes to take Hummingbird shots in my backyard. Well, this time I was almost too close. I almost didn't get the entire bird in the frame.

I have to admit that life aboard Leon's Claw is a lot harder and with more responsibility than I expected... but I love it! Every day I have to make rounds throughout the entire ship and inspect everything and make sure it's all in working order. If one little thing is out of place or whistling wrong or smoking when it shouldn't, it can affect the entire ship and the lives of everyone on board.

Aside from my responsibility inspecting the ship, I also help Damien when he needs it. To be honest he doesn't need that much help. He's very handy and strong! I watched him lift three heavy crates all on his own during our first stop after my joining the crew! They weren't little crates either! I'm pretty sure Damien was amused by my awe ‘cause he kept smirking when I stared and said, "Whoa!"

Having Damien as a bunkmate wasn't all too bad but it took some getting used to. I'd never shared a room, so to speak, with another person. My hammock is directly above Damien's and privacy is a rare treat. I have to use a crate to climb up and let me tell you it is NOT an easy thing to do; especially when you are sore and tired. In fact, I nearly fell several times trying to get in the first time and Damien just stood there looking so fucking amused and told me that if I fell on him while he was sleeping that he'd kill me and make it look like an accident. We both laughed it off but at the same time I don't ever want to find out how serious he is or not.

Before I knew it, it had been nearly three weeks since I'd left home! It took some adjustment but soon I was getting used to my new life. I was an airship engineer! No, it wasn't on one of those big airships I'd dreamed of but this could one day lead to that! I wrote to Papa twice and told him all about the ship and my crew mates and what life was like for me now. Though if I am to be honest, I was starting to feel homesick. I could send Papa letters but would I ever be able to receive any back? Surely there had to be a schedule of planned stops. It meant Papa could send letters ahead for me! I knew the captain would know of them but I didn't want him to think I was regretting my choice to do this.

To be honest, I hadn't seen much of the captain in the past few weeks. When I did see him, he was often busy mapping things out and writing letters and going over ledgers while sipping on a cup of tea. He wasn't hard to find on a small ship but our paths just didn't cross too often.

It was mid afternoon and I'd finished inspecting pipes beneath the mast* when I figured now would be a good time as any to speak with the captain. He usually takes his afternoon tea around this time so I made my way down below deck to the small kitchen area. Sure enough, there he was! Captain Vincent was just finishing up brewing what appeared to be one of his favorites: Earl Grey.

I inhaled deeply and smiled slightly. "Mm, smells good." I watched as the captain glanced over and gave a small, "Mhm." His gaze looked down at his teacup, lifting it gingerly to his nose before taking a deep inhale and sighing contently. He seemed to be in a good mood so I decided to take my chance before he departed. "Sir, I wanted to ask you something." He'd just started to turn when I watched him pause and glance back at me expectantly. "What is it?"

Licking my lips, I explained, "I was wanting to ask if it would be possible to find out ahead of time some of the ports we'll be at. I wanted to let my father know so maybe he could send me letters." I watched as the captain quirked his brow and for a moment, I felt like he could see deep within me, that longing and yearning for home. I was so sure the captain was going to belittle me when instead, he gave a small sigh, then replied, "Come with me." Relief filled me and I began to follow him along towards his quarters. "Thank you!" "You're welcome."

A moment later, he opened the door and let me in before following in after me. "Things don't always go according to plan but we do have a schedule for some of the major stops we'll be taking a few months out," he explained, reaching for a notebook calendar on one of his shelves. He set his teacup down and began to thumb through the notebook until he found what he was looking for. "We'll be stopping in Arturstown in one week. After that..."

And the captain began to show me on his calendar some of the big stops we'd be making and when they were planned. He was stoic, factual in his explanations as always. I took mental notes of where and when some of them were. Fantastic!

"Thank you again, Captain!"

"You're welcome."

I watched him settle in on his chair to finally enjoy his tea. As I turned to leave, something caught my eye. It was a chess set! A very nicely made one, at that. I recognized the brand! My father had a chess set from the same maker! The memories of playing chess with my father made me smile softly. "Can I help you with anything else?" I heard the captain ask behind me. "Oh, no. Sorry, Sir. I was just admiring the box of your chess set. My father has one from the same maker." "Ah, I see." I glanced back at him as he lifted his tea to his lips and began to sip quietly from it. He looked so content just sitting there like that. I gave a small chuckle and a small jerk of my head. "Fancy a game, Captain?" I could tell I surprised him with the offer because he looked up at me and quirked his left brow.

"Are you serious?"

"Why wouldn't I be?"

The captain stared at me for a long moment. "So you know how to play?" "Of course I do." I replied, grinning. Then I added quickly with politeness, "Sir." Perhaps he'd thought someone like me wouldn't know how to play something like that. To be fair, most people of my station live their whole lives working and not having hobbies outside of that. I watched him glance towards the box and I realized that he was actually considering it! Pushing just a touch more, I teased, "Come on. I'll even go easy on you."

The captain gave a snort; an actual snort. Then he responded, "Go easy on me? Kid, I don't think you know who I am."

"Don't tell me. Show me."

"Fine. On your King's head, then."

Standing, the captain motioned for me to move and then reached up for the box, tea secured in his other hand. I thought for a split second I saw a small smirk at the corner of his lips but maybe it was just a trick of the light. We walked across to the cargo hold that also doubled as the living quarters for Damien and me. It didn't take us long to get set up. Sitting on a barrel opposite the captain, I grinned a little. "Your move, Captain."

It became clear within a few minutes that I was not playing against an amateur. Then about fifteen minutes into the game, the captain revealed just how good he was. I was good. I was not THAT good! He seemed to be several steps ahead with an answer to everything I could think of!

"Checkmate."

"How?!" I exclaimed, eyes widened and fighting back incredulous laughter as he checkmated me. I stared, going over all the pieces. Yeah, he...he got me good! I folded my arms over my chest, jaw dropped and just dumbfounded! By chance, right then, I glanced up and suddenly...I felt the wind knocked slightly out of me.

I'm not sure what it was about that one moment, but for a second the way the sunlight filtered through the ceiling and fell upon the captain, it took my breath away. His eye was staring right at me, the sunlight making his sea colored eye look so vibrant and lovely like the shallows in a lagoon. I'd never seen a man look so handsome and beautiful at the same time. His full lips curved ever so slightly into that tiny smirk I thought I'd seen earlier, and he looked so content to be sitting there with his tea and having kicked my ass in the quickest chess game I'd ever played. "Hm." His lips smirked just a touch more as he lifted his tea to his lips and slowly drained the rest of it. Before I could make any sense of what just happened...

BOOM!

"What was that?!" the captain exclaimed, looking around in shock. God, I felt as if my heart jumped into my stomach! And suddenly, the whole ship lurched and the chess set was flying along with several crates nearby! I scrambled to steady myself and stared in horror at the captain who gazed back at me while clutching a barrel. There was a horrible cranking sound that was very obviously slowing down as we heard Damien's scream rise above all of it through the ceiling window. "VINCENT!!! AIDEN!!!! YOU BETTER GET UP HERE QUICK!!!"

This was entirely done in camera. Okay I am totally kidding. LOTS of photoshop work. 4 layers with lots of masking 3 or more different brushes, blur filters and I have no idea what else. Not quite the image I had in mind but the processing just seemed to lend itself to this kind of look so I went with it.

Strobist: sb700 for the background. Another to camera right. Triggered with on camera flash

The woods that I loved as a child are entirely gone. The woods that I loved as a young adult are gone. The woods that most recently I walked in are not gone, but they’re full of bicycle trails. And this is happening to the world, and I think it is very very dangerous for our future generations, those of us who believe that the world is not only necessary to us in its pristine state, but it is in itself an act of some kind of spiritual thing. I said once, and I think this is true, the world did not have to be beautiful to work. But it is. What does that mean?

The entire Class 139 fleet! 139001 and 139002 are seen together at Stourbridge Junction.

These tiny vehicles are 'Parry People Movers', and use a flywheel design to harvest energy. They operate the short shuttle between Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction stations.

Only 1 vehicle is used at a time, and the units are rotated in use each week by using the track on the right (which is also the mainline connection).

Thanks to the staff for the information on this 'switch over', and their very friendly manner during the week when chatting with them.
