More than 1000 women murdered in Spain because of gender violence. What else is there to do to prevent this from happening?
"Entangled II"
A slightly wider view of an image I've posted in the past. This was one of those shots where you're almost back at the car, and you turn around and simply have to get the gear back out of the bag for the moment. My Sony 100-400mm is one of my favorite lenses for a couple reasons. One, for years, I just did not "see" telephoto compositions as easily as I do now. Vision takes time. The second is that I did not have more than about 300mm in my lens arsenal until I got this lens.
An article I wrote on using telephoto lenses in landscape photography can be found on my blog.

For me photography is a creative tool to visualise what is hidden, just like the abandoned office building in this image. Its façade, full of squares in different sizes, immediately attracted me. Large concrete elements are subdivided by small square tiles and windows. A courtyard has the same elements, but was overgrown by trees.
In my studio I superimposed the clean outside façade with the courtyard and masked out some of the elements. The image that finally emerged has surreal qualities, with trees taking over and growing in and out of the windows. In this way it is a joyful hommage to the hidden beauty of the office complex that is no more, as the building was recently demolished. Rhythm and geometry always inspire me to shoot architecture, but in this case I successfully combined it with patterns of nature.
These Ribwort plantain flowers are distinctive and It wasn't until I got closer did I see the Margined Caliligrapher hoverfly. All the rain we've had has insured everything is green although the river and urban flooding isn't good for anything. Extreme weather is becoming more the norm and less unusual.
With some sleuthing, I found this in my alma mater, UCDavis' website: "Consider the common lawn weed Plantago lanceolata, otherwise known as ribwort or buckhorn plantain, which has the longest dormancy in the United States, according to the report. Noxious to livestock and native plants, the plant was introduced in the United States in 1822 and is found widely here. Velvetleaf, which was introduced as a possible fiber crop, can be dormant for 50 years before it expands, threatening corn, soybean and other crops as it sucks up water and nutrients." Evidently the length of time a seed can lie dormant determines its ability to bounce back and become more dominant.
Occasionally you will make acquaintances with a location never previously visited, you may have done some research, studied the maps and photographs and checked the position where the sun will make its first presence felt, but when you arrive in near darkness and all alone, serenaded by the first bars of the dawn symphony, you are totally unprepared for the beauty which is yet to unfold before you.
Oh, but she can be a fickle mistress, if the mood suits, she may turn her back on you and reward you with drab, overcast skies and drizzle, however, if you’ve paid your taxes on time you may be treated to the best show on earth. Today, I just got lucky. Maybe I wasn't all bad in a previous existence.
She lay perfectly still, a soft blanket of mist hugging her cool waters, as dawn broke, her beauty was revealed, enchanting and mesmerising and one felt so fortunate to just......….be.
During a camping trip I found this intriguing composition of flowing water, tree roots and rocks while exploring Cedar Creek, Mt Tamborine, Qld, Aust.

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.
Just something a little different for me. I wanted a crop that I hadn't tried in a portrait and something with movement. This photo of my dear friend I took seemed to have all those elements already.
This is for my friends I am so grateful to have in my life.
