Am I too late for Kingfisher Friday?

Here's one of my favs from April - fishing for supper in the last hour before sunset.

I took so many photos of this beauty (or its partner whom I've not managed to really distinguish) ... that I might have for Friday's for years to come. It's nuts how many hours it can take to see one, or how far I might walk, yet, irrespective of how many pics I've taken, can't get enough.

Decent in-flights are incredibly hard to get. I'm old enough to know my reflexes aren't getting any faster - there is practically no chance of photographing properly on reflex / reaction. They're like bee-eaters. Too fast, but some day I'll have a tool with proper pre-capture and we'll get some.

April 8, 2024 Eclipse as seen from Bledsoe Farms near Patoka Lake IN. This was an unexpected result probably due to lens flare at f32.

We had good intel that short-eared owls might show up to hunt at sunset, but the skies had been very overcast all day. I nearly bailed early because of the crappy light, but I was talked out of it since I’d already made the 2 hour drive. Sure enough, 10 minutes before sunset, this silent hunter showed up. I’m pretty happy with how my camera did in a very difficult shooting situation.
