Week 2 UnExplored assignment entry
This is the best concept that I can think for this popular English quote haha!! I made the apple the substitute for your doctor hehe..
If you were to say to the grown-ups: "I saw a beautiful house made of rosy brick, with geraniums in the windows and doves on the roof," they would not be able to get any idea of that house at all. You would have to say to them: "I saw a house that cost $20,000." Then they would exclaim: "Oh, what a pretty house that is!" Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Zero Zone
Zero Zone is the area of Walibi including attractions like Crazy River, Lost Gravity, Silver Dollar Games, Drako, Tomahawk and Walibi Express.
This area has undergone a metamorphosis in 2022. At Lost Gravity, known for its stacked sea containers, that theme has been used since its opening in 2016. There, visitors experience that gravity has disappeared due to a meteorite impact. Now the consequences of the disaster are also visible in the surrounding area. Yellow warning stripes will appear on all attractions. And as we have come to expect from Walibi, an important role is played by bright colours, graffiti, abstract works of art and remarkable English quotes.

The virtual riality experience Neurogen opened in the year 2017 and this attraction only lasted 3 year of operation as it remained closed in the pandemic seasons 2020 and 2021. This building also houses the The Clinic during the Halloween period. In the 2022 Halloween weeks a new haunted house will open.
"Everything seems smaller from above", can be read, for example, on the facade of the haunted house The Clinic. "Only gravity was lost I never lost you...", it reads below. The facade was painted in blue, red, yellow, white, yellow and green. Incidentally, all references to the hospital theme have been removed. VR attraction NeuroGen, which previously used the same entrance, has since been completely removed.

Crazy River 15/05/2022 17h06
Crazy River has been "zero-zoned" as well for the 2022 season.
The old theme of Crazy River - a Canadian sawmill - was largely preserved. Walibi added warning stripes, pressure gauges, fans, pipes, power cables and graffiti to the station building. With these adjustments, the water attraction must represent a power station. In the queue, visitors pass generators and power pylons with a maze of cables.

The square in front of children's roller coaster Drako has been given a parking theme as part of "Festivalization". Including a blue column with non-working sockets, no parking signs and also parking machines from bygone times. Drako's building has been given a bird theme.
For a photo challenge in a dollboard I shooted this little scene with Wolverine and added the German quote of a Neil-Jordan-Movie.
Here the original English quote:
Little girls, this seems to say / Never stop upon the way / Never trust a stranger friend / No-one knows where it may end / As you're pretty, so be wise / Wolves may lurk in every guise / Now as then, 'tis simple truth / Sweetest tongue has sharpest tooth.

Lokmanya Tilak (Marathi: लोकमान्य बाळ गंगाधर टिळक pronunciation (help·info)), born as Keshav Gangadhar Tilak (23 July 1856 – 1 August 1920), was an Indian nationalist, teacher, social reformer, lawyer and independence fighter who was the first popular leader of the Indian Independence Movement. The British colonial authorities derogatorily called him "Father of the Indian unrest". He was also conferred with the honorary title of "Lokmanya", which literally means "Accepted by the people(as their leader)".
Tilak was one of the first and strongest advocates of "Swaraj" (self-rule) and a strong radical in Indian consciousness. His famous quote, "Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it!" is well-remembered in India even today.
Lokmanya Tilak was born at Chummakachu Lane (Ranjani Aaleea) in Chikhalgaon, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra to a Chitpavan Brahmin family. His father, Shri Gangadhar Tilak was a famous school teacher and a Sanskrit scholar who died when Tilak was sixteen. His brilliance rubbed off on young Tilak, who graduated from Deccan College, Pune in 1877. Tilak was among one of the first generation of Indians to receive a college education .
Tilak was expected, as was the tradition then, to actively participate in public affairs. He stated:
"Religion and practical life are not different. To take Sanyasa(renunciation) is not to abandon life. The real spirit is to make the country your family work together instead of working only for your own. The step beyond is to serve humanity and the next step is to serve God." This dedication to humanity would be a fundamental element in the Indian nationalist movement.
After graduating, Tilak began teaching mathematics in a private school in Pune. Later due to some ideological differences with the colleagues in the New School, he decided to withdraw from that activity. About that time, he became a journalist. He was a strong critic of the Western education system, feeling it demeaned the Indian students and disrespected India's heritage. He organized the Deccan Education Society with a few of his college friends, including Gopal Ganesh Agarkar, Mahadev Ballal Namjoshi and Vishnushastri Krushnashastri Chiplunkar whose goal was to improve the quality of education for India's youth. The Deccan Education Society was set up to create a new system that taught young Indians nationalist ideas through an emphasis on Indian culture.[1] Tilak began a mass movement towards independence that was camouflaged by an emphasis on a religious and cultural revival.[2] He taught mathematics at Fergusson College.
[edit]Political career
[edit]Indian National Congress
Tilak joined the Indian National Congress in 1890. He opposed its moderate attitude, especially towards the fight for self-government. He was one of the most-eminent radicals at the time.
Despite being personally opposed to early marriage, Tilak opposed the 1891 Age of Consent bill, seeing it as interference with Hinduism and a dangerous precedent. The act raised the age at which a girl could get married from 10 to 12 years.
A plague epidemic spread from Mumbai to Pune in late 1896, and by January 1897, it reached epidemic proportions. In order to suppress the epidemic and prevent its spread, it was decided to take drastic action, accordingly a Special Plague Committee, with jurisdiction over Pune city, its suburbs and Pune cantonment was appointed under the Chairmanship of W. C. Rand, I.C.S., Assistant Collector of Pune by way of a government order dated 8 March 1897. Tilak took up the people's cause by publishing inflammatory articles in his paper Kesari (Kesari was written in Marathi, and Maratha was written in English), quoting the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita, to say that no blame could be attached to anyone who killed an oppressor without any thought of reward. Following this, on 22 June 1897, Rand and another British officer, Lt. Ayerst were shot and killed by the Chapekar brothers and their other associates. Tilak was charged with incitement to murder and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. When he emerged from prison, he was revered as a martyr and a national hero. He adopted a new slogan, "Swaraj (self-rule) is my birthright and I shall have it."
Following the partition of Bengal in 1905, which was a strategy set out by Lord Curzon to weaken the nationalist movement, Tilak encouraged the Swadeshi movement and the Boycott movement.[3] The Boycott movement consisted of the boycott of foreign goods and also the social boycott of any Indian who used foreign goods. The Swadeshi movement consisted of the usage of goods produced by oneself or in India. Once foreign goods were boycotted, there was a gap which had to be filled by the production of those goods in India itself. Tilak, therefore, rightly said that the Swadeshi and Boycott movements are two sides of the same coin.
Tilak opposed the moderate views of Gopal Krishna Gokhale, and was supported by fellow Indian nationalists Bipin Chandra Pal in Bengal and Lala Lajpat Rai in Punjab. They were referred to as the Lal-Bal-Pal triumvirate. In 1907, the annual session of the Congress Party was held at Surat, Gujarat. Trouble broke out between the moderate and the radical factions of the party over the selection of the new president of the Congress. The party split into the "Jahal matavadi" ("Hot Faction" or radicals), led by Tilak, Pal and Lajpat Rai, and the "Maval matavadi" ("Soft Faction" or moderates). Nationalists like Aurobindo Ghose were Tilak supporters.
[edit]Arrest
On 30 April 1908, two Bengali youths, Prafulla Chaki and Khudiram Bose, threw a bomb on a carriage at Muzzafarpur, in order to kill the Chief Presidency Majistrate Douglas Kingsford of Calcutta fame, but erroneously killed some women travelling in it. While Chaki committed suicide when caught, Bose was hanged. Tilak, in his paper Kesari, defended the revolutionaries and called for immediate Swaraj or self-rule. The Government swiftly arrested him for sedition. He asked a young Muhammad Ali Jinnah to represent him. But a special jury convicted him, and the Parsi judge D. D. Davar gave him the controversial sentence of six years' transportation and a Rs 1,000 fine.[4] As a result, Tilak was sent to Mandalay, Burma from 1908 to 1914.[5] While imprisoned, he continued to read and write, further developing his ideas on the Indian nationalist movement. While in the prison he wrote the most-famous Gita Rahasya. Lots of copies of which were sold, and the money was donated for the freedom fighting.
[edit]Life after prison
Tilak had mellowed after his release in June 1914, more because of the diabetes and hardship in Mandalay prison. When World War I started in August, Tilak cabled the King-Emperor in Britain of his support and turned his oratory to find new recruits for war efforts. He welcomed The Indian Councils Act, popularly known as Minto-Morley Reforms, which had been passed by British Parliament in May 1909, terming it as "a marked increase of confidence between the Rulers and the Ruled". Acts of violence actually retarded, than hastened, the pace of political reforms, he felt. He was eager for reconciliation with Congress and had abandoned his demand for direct action and settled for agitations "strictly by constitutional means" - a line advocated by his rival Gopal Krishna Gokhale. Tilak saw the spark in Mohandas Gandhi and tried his best to convince Gandhi to leave the idea of "Total Ahinsa" and try to get "Swarajya" by all means. Gandhi, though looked upon him as his guru, did not change his mind.
[edit]All India Home Rule League
Later, Tilak re-united with his fellow nationalists and re-joined the Indian National Congress in 1916. He also helped found the All India Home Rule League in 1916–18, with G. S. Khaparde and Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Annie Besant. After years of trying to reunite the moderate and radical factions, he gave up and focused on the Home Rule League, which sought self-rule. Tilak traveled from village to village trying to conjure up support from farmers and locals to join the movement towards self-rule.[5] Tilak was impressed by the Russian Revolution, and expressed his admiration for Vladimir Lenin.[6]
Tilak, who started his political life as a Maratha propagandist, progressed into a prominent nationalist after his close association with Indian nationalists following the partition of Bengal. When asked in Calcutta whether he envisioned a Maratha-type of government for Free India, Tilak replied that the Maratha-dominated governments of 17th and 18th centuries were outmoded in the 20th century, and he wanted a genuine federal system for Free India where every religion and race was an equal partner. He added that only such a form of government would be able to safeguard India's freedom. He was the first Congress leader to suggest that Hindi written in the Devanagari script be accepted as the sole national language of India.[citation needed]
[edit]Social contribution
In 1894, Tilak transformed household worshipping of Ganesha into Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav. Gopal Ganesh Agarkar was the first editor of Kesari, a prominent Marathi weekly in his days, which was started by Lokmanya Tilak in 1880-81. G Lokmanya Tilak, established the Shri Shivaji Raigad Smarak Mandal along with Senapati Khanderao Dabhade IInd of Talegaon Dabhade, who became the Founder President of the Mandal. In 1895, Tilak founded the Shri Shivaji Fund Committee for celebration of 'Shiv Punya Tithi' and for the reconstruction of the Samadhi of Shivaji Maharaj at Fort Raigad.
Tilak said, "I regard India as my Motherland and my Goddess, the people in India my kith and kin, and loyal and steadfast work for their political and social emancipation my highest religion and duty".[7]
[edit]Books
In 1903, he wrote the book The Arctic Home in the Vedas. In it he argued that the Vedas could only have been composed in the Arctics, and the Aryan bards brought them south after the onset of the last ice age. He proposed the radically new way to determine the exact time of the Vedas. He tried to calculate the time of Vedas by using the position of different Nakshatras. Positions of Nakshtras were described in different Vedas.
Tilak also authored 'Shrimadbhagwadgeetarahasya' - the analysis of 'Karmayoga' in the Bhagavadgita, which is known to be gift of the Vedas and the Upanishads.
He also wrote Geetha rahasya in prison at port blair.
[edit]Government of India coin
In 2007, the Government of India released a coin to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
Elev8 Parent Mentor Program at Ames Middle School Chicago:
eric@smittyimage.comGloria Bedillo had never served as a school volunteer before, or thought of herself as a leader. But within XX months of the day her daughter enrolled at Logan Square’s Ames Middle, all that changed. Suddenly Bedillo found herself serving as a classroom assistant, a family book group leader, a truant outreach worker, a member of the local school council, and chair of the school’s No Child Left Behind Committee. REACTION FROM HER—IS SHE SURPRISED? While Bedillo is one of the more active parents at Ames, she is hardly unusual. Inner-city schools often bemoan the lack of parental involvement, but Ames has it in spades: 20 parents are volunteering or working for modest wages at the school almost daily at a variety of jobs through Logan Square Neighborhood Association’s Parent Mentor Program. “It’s an enhancement to everything we do,” said Ames Principal Thomas Hoffman who credits the program’s parent truancy outreach workers for helping to raise the school’s average daily attendance rate more than two percentage points in the past two years. LSNA launched the Parent Mentor Program in 1995 as a way to give parents, mainly Hispanic women, the skills and confidence to get more involved in their children’s education. Since then, the program has trained more than 1,300 parents at nine neighborhood elementary schools as classroom mentors for struggling students. But learning how to assist students and school staff is just the beginning. Parent mentors are encouraged to become leaders in their schools and politically active in their communities. And they are urged to pursue personal goals, such as finding employment or pursuing further education. Many have gone on to take ESL or GED classes offered at Ames and four other Logan Square elementary schools.Maria Marquez, a former parent mentor who now coordinates that program at Ames, went even further. She enrolled in LSNA's “Grow Your Own” program which helps Logan Square residents earn undergraduate degrees in education and land jobs in Chicago Public Schools, helping to alleviate the bilingual teacher shortage. More than 20 other parent mentors have done likewise. “Had it had it not been for the Parent Mentor Program I would not be going to Northeastern [University],” she said. For Bedillo, joining the program was no less transformative. As a former substance abuse counselor with an associates degree in social services, she had always enjoyed helping people. BUT OUTSIDE HER CIRCLE?, she had been hesitant to speak her mind. “She was kind of quiet when she first started, not wanting to say a lot,” Marquez recalled. But in the safety of the parent mentor group—LSNA trained a dozen this fall—she began to speak up, said Marquez. “She's a little bit more confident about her opinions.”During one meeting, when a mother complained that her son was unable to get reduced city bus fare because he couldn't prove he went to Ames, Bedillo volunteered to ask the principal about providing student IDs. The principal agreed to do so. WHAT MADE HER DECIDE TO DO THAT.The other mothers were impressed, said Marquez. Later, when she asked for volunteers for the school’s No Child Left Behind Advisory Committee, they quickly nominated Bedillo as chair, said Marquez.“I was like 'Me?' Bedillo recalls. “They were like, 'Yes, you.'”Bedillo, a friendly woman with a ready smile, initially signed-up as a parent mentor because of concerns about school safety, which provided to be unfounded, she said. But that first step was a gateway. “The more I get involved with my daughters school,” she said, “the more I want to be involved.”Her sudden interest surprised her daughter, Jaileen Martinez. “I was shocked about it. I just thought of my mom as a house mom.” The 7th-grader was also worried. “I was kind of scared because I thought she would embarrass me,” Jaileen acknowledged. But she needn't have worried. Her friends thought Bedillo was cool. “When they see me they're like, 'Where's your mom?'” And rather than embarrassed by her mother's involvement at the school, Jaileen found herself impressed. “She's so into it. Her trying to help somebody makes me want to do the same. She motivates me.”Parents in neighborhoods like Logan Square often don't realize how eager schools are for their participation, said Marquez. That's especially true for those immigrating from Mexico or other Central American countries, she explained. In Mexico, parents don’t ever question the teacher or principal, said Marquez. “You can't come into the classroom because it’s invading their domain.”But the parent mentor training makes it clear how much they are valued, not only by recruiting them to serve in a variety of additional roles—safety patrol, truancy outreach, after school tutorCK—but by building their confidence. Before parents step foot in the classroom, they get two weeks of training on the school's math and reading curriculum and also on personal development and leadership. The training continues for two hours a week throughout the school year. Parents without degrees often imagine they don’t have much to offer the school, said Leticia Barerra, another Parent Mentor alumna who now manages the program for LSNA. When parents realize they have lots of skills and talents they can offer to the school, they feel important and useful.” CAN BEDILLO COMMENT ON HER EXPERIENCE?Parents also need to know they have the right to speak up to authority, she said, whether to the principal, the alderman or their state representatives. “They didn't realize how much power they could have,” Barerra explains. “As soon as they know, they start making phone calls.” During last school year's training, a group of mothers suddenly decided to visit the alderman and demand traffic-calming measures around the school: They got their way. After this year's initial training, parents spontaneously teamed up to go door to door to encourage their neighbors to vote. ASK BEDILLO ABOUT THIS.HOW MANY TIMES THIS YEAR, past and present parent mentors have hopped on a bus to Springfield to lobby legislators on immigration reform. NEED A LITTLE MORE HERE“We're speaking out and being heard and not being afraid,” Bedillo said. “We're not just parents now. Her friends thought Bedillo was cool. “When they see me they're like, 'Where's your mom?'” And rather than embarrassed by her mother's involvement at the school, Jaileen found herself impressed. “She's so into it.
Zero Zone 15/05/2022 11h35
The entrance to Zero Zone on the side of the Ferris wheel La Grande Roue is formed by a number of curved lampposts. These form the name of the area with the help of separate parts, provided that visitors are in the right place. This photo is taken from the Central Plaza. .
