Bluebells are probably one of the best known wildflowers found in the British Isles, sometimes carpeting entire floors in early spring with brightly colored flowers, appearing April-May.

Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England. Built 1705-1722 originally for John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, as reward for military activities including the Battle of Blenheim. Birthplace in 1874 of Winston Churchill.

Christopher Wren was in the running to be architect but the post was given to John Vanbrugh who was assisted by Hawksmoor. The building is in the ‘English Baroque’ style that paralleled the perhaps more exuberant Continental Baroque. English baroque was soon unfashionable and replaced by the restraint of the Georgian buildings of Edinburgh and Bath.

I've admired so many strong metal fences for so long on Flickr but just never had the chance to shoot one of my own. Until now ... hope you have a lovely FF. :)

There was a time when we thought that the Anglican Church was as unchangeable and as permanent as the English weather, that the red telephone cubicle was part of an identifiable English character, and that the equally red letter box would be eternal.

"Oh, oh, you think you're special

Oh, oh, you think you're something else"

The Anglican Church is no longer what it used to be - and its majority is no longer "English". English weather is now a matter of unpredictable surprises, telephone cubicles have been superseded by smart phones, and the Royal Mail is neither royal nor reliable in its delivery of letters. And the English character? You tell me. We in the UK are living among fossilised objects, and if new life is springing up it will in all likelihood have little to do with the Anglican Church, the Royal Mail and Englishness. Let me put it bluntly, it is immigration that is blowing new life into a sclerotised and inelastic body. Leica M8, Voigtlaender 35/1.4.

Don't like how the HDR has done weird things to the sky but without it it doesn't have such impact.

The best way to manage the heath at Kinver Edge sensitively is to graze it with cattle. The National Trust use a herd of English Longhorn cows, an ancient breed, who crush the bracken, chomp on bramble and nibble leaves and grass. Their trampling creates bare sandy areas that bees nest in and releases heather seeds. By roaming around they naturally create a ‘mosaic’ of different habitats across the landscape, which is ideal for wildlife.

Happy Holidays.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful Holiday Season.

The Holy Cross Cathedral (Cathédrale Sainte-Croix) of Orléans is one of France's most captivating Gothic monuments, primarily famous for its historical connection to Joan of Arc.

Key features include:

Architecture: Although it follows the Gothic style, much of the current structure was rebuilt between the 17th and 19th centuries, as the previous cathedral was nearly destroyed during the Wars of Religion.

Joan of Arc: The French national heroine attended Mass here in 1429 after liberating the city from the English siege. The magnificent 19th-century stained-glass windows depict the major milestones of her life.

Façade: It is characterized by two imposing towers, approximately 82 meters high, topped with distinctive openwork "crowns" that give the cathedral a unique silhouette.

La Cattedrale di Santa Croce (Cathédrale Sainte-Croix) di Orléans è uno dei monumenti gotici più affascinanti di Francia, famosa soprattutto per il suo legame storico con Giovanna d'Arco.

Ecco alcuni punti chiave:

Morning and evening

Maids heard the goblins cry:

‘Come buy our orchard fruits,

Come buy, come buy:

Apples and quinces,

Lemons and oranges,

Plump unpeck’d cherries,

Melons and raspberries,

Bloom-down-cheek’d peaches,

Swart-headed mulberries,

Wild free-born cranberries,

Crab-apples, dewberries,

Pine-apples, blackberries,

Apricots, strawberries;—

All ripe together

In summer weather,—

Morns that pass by,

Fair eves that fly;

Come buy, come buy …’
