The little engineer takes to the sky...

Skippy prepared for his journey while wearing the following:

The Forge's Nomad Mask!

Wicca's Original's Wickham Hat!

Gabriel's Vintage Suit, and Steampunk Shoulder Belt!

Arts & Gear's Steam Wing Backpack!

And the little man envisioned his universe with the help of:

The Forge's Sky Junker Ship!

The paint peeling from the walls and the high level of decay makes me so happy.... Is it strange to love this kind of stuff ? hehe...

- Ceres Asteroid Belt - HOPE Hangars -

Arrival Log J-15425 Cod 01 of Serenity Ship

Passengers:

* Y. Batou, Void Engineer - Rank: NULL

* XI1569, Iteration X - Rank: Major

-----

Once again, he returned to HOPE. To that space station in the orbit of Ceres that in the past housed an utopian city and his home, but that, after a tragedy that he would like to forget, only left a pit stop for space marines and a city in the process of reconstruction that was trying to survive.

Unlike other occasions, this time he didn’t return alone and was accompanied by Major XI1569, who had rescued him along with the valuable cargo he was carrying on his spaceship. His gesture raised to him behind the glass of his helmet as his corneal implants focused on him, wondering, once again, how he could survive in an environment without oxygen as he watched how the parts of his body exposed to the elements seemed to adapt to it and his gaze, full of coordinates, was fixed on the screen concentrated, confident and indifferent to those changes.

At that moment, it became clear to Batou that he was not Human.

My first ride in the cab of a steam locomotive. The engineer was kinda young. Niles Canyon Railway near Sunol, California.

After not sleeping all night waiting on P001, my dumbass decided to go after A711 with a YN2 GP40-2 & GP39-2 for power. To the absolute amazement of myself, Travis & Larry, the conductor for today's edition was slower than a snail frozen in a block of ice 200ft below the surface of Antarctica. It no joke took him over 3 hours to build a 11 car train when all of the cars were located in a siding & just needed to be arranged in the right order. You could tell both the engineer & the dispatcher were getting rather crossed at him as he was holding up the subdivision the whole morning with several road trains waiting in Chattanooga for them to clear up. How someone was able to work so slow still baffles me.

Anyways, here we see them finally moving south going in the hole at Tilton to let one of those trains in Chattanooga get around them. Why did I stay up for this is beyond me since I was now going close to 27 hours without sleep by this point? Oh yeah, I'm a dumbass. 1-24-22

Rio Grande SD40T-2 No. 5411 leads an 84-car Salt Lake City to Helper coal train through Utah's Spanish Fork Canyon approaching Narrows on Oct. 8, 1994. The engineer is holding a system timetable, which he tossed out the window for me to enjoy as a gift. In my humble opinion, Rio Grande guys were and continue to be the BEST.

Brittle stars, an alternate common name is the 'serpent stars', are a species-rich class of echinoderms with outstanding regenerative abilities. Living under rocks or in crevices with only the tips of the arms exposed, they are known to be seafloor ecosystem engineers. They reshape the seafloor sediment surface and influence the distribution of other seafloor species. They also provide nutrition to fish, sea stars and crab predators.

Their presence in a sediment sample is one indicator of a healthy benthic community. They embody nature's fragility and resilience.

Built in 1892 in collaboration with British engineer Charles Assheton Whately Pownall during the Meiji era (1868–1912) when Japan was rapidly modernizing. It served as a railway passage between Yokokawa in Gunma and Karuizawa in Nagano. Services stopped in 1963, and the bridge was repurposed as part of a nature trail in 2001.

The title is a line from Manfred Manns Blinded By The Light which was penned by Bruce Springsteen. The songs lyrics are bizarre and have very little meaning to me but that does not detract from the songs enormous popularity.

The Claymills Victorian pumping station is keen to encourage the next generation of engineers. This young man took us down to the the space above the boilers and explained the restoration project he was working on with his team .

This is an old one from the vault. He was a regular personality who rode his tricycle fitted with a mock-up steam engine around the ByWard Market. Haven't seen him around for over 5yrs.

Split Rock Lighthouse is a lighthouse located southwest of Silver Bay, Minnesota, USA on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The structure was designed by lighthouse engineer Ralph Russell Tinkham and was completed in 1910 by the United States Lighthouse Service at a cost of $75,000, including the buildings and the land. It is considered one of the most picturesque lighthouses in the United States.

Engineer Sam does nothing short of track speed as he brings the PVTN across Union Pacific rails to Central City. There, they will hop on their own trackage and deliver cars to the towns of Hordville, Phillip and Stromsburg before running light to Brainard.

Named after the engineer that designed it, Clifford M. Holland, the Holland tunnel when it opened in 1927 was the first Hudson River vehicular crossing and was at the time of its opening the longest underwater tunnel for vehicular traffic in the world. The Holland Tunnels length is 8,558 feet from portal to portal on the North tube, and 8,371 feet on the South tube at a height of 12 feet, 6 inches tall. Initially the state commission considered a bridge or a tunnel at the turn of the century, but the cost of acquiring the land to build a bridge with a minimum height of 200 feet to allow for marine traffic made it cost prohibitive. Biggest challenge outside of digging a tunnel under the Hudson River was ventilation. Four ventilation buildings 2 on each side of river, exchange the tunnel air every 90 seconds, though being in the tunnel in traffic over the years, the smell of diesel fuel is something I always remember in my dad’s un-airconditioned vehicle. Utah Railway engineer Stu Turner commands the controls of the RUT311 local as it rumbles into North Salt Lake, Utah, on May 15, 2012. Stu was one of the kindest railroaders I've ever met, offering a friendly wave or a trackside chat. He was tragically taken from us in July 2020 due to brain cancer.

I went for a bike ride this morning and passed the site of the old Totley Tunnel Box around the same time as an engineers train having run from the Huddersfield area. First time I've seen the new livery in action.

Just a few figs, I wanted to use the new 2016 Ghostbusters bodies/legs for something.

P.S. I'm trying out a new photo setup, wadda ya think?

(Though I'll probably only use it in winter, because taking pictures outside looks better. :P)

On August 31st, 2023, well known railroader Mike Del Vecchio passed away after a battle with cancer. Although I didn't know Mike too well personally, I never heard a bad word spoken about him. Seen here is him posing as the engineer on #4109 during the United Railroad Historical Society's photo shoot in Boonton.

Winter presents all kinds of interesting challenges as a photographer. The cold, snow, and ice all provide risks and rewards. I decided to brave those elements recently and hiked through a foot of powder to the top of a ridge near Durango, Colorado. My reward was quite special. The last light of the day kissed the top of 12,968 ft. Engineer Mountain while the soft pink light at the end of the day illuminated the snow below in Animas Valley.

Walking the terraced face of Toyon Canyon Landfill in Griffith Park yesterday. The entire canyon was a dump site for Los Angeles garbage from 1957 to 1985. 30,700,000 cubic yards of trash is buried here; an estimated 16,000,000 tons. The terraced face is engineered like a 500 foot high dam. There are 200 gas wells collecting methane which is used to operate a power generation facility. Other pipes and ducts manage wastewater which must be filtered and treated before channeled into the concrete canyon of the nearby Los Angeles river. The grass is green this time of year.
