The Grand Palais (or Palais 5) is a large Art-Deco exhibition hall (13 040 m²) erected for the the Brussels International Exposition of 1935. Its four pilasters are topped by 4.3 meters high bronze statues.

My first ride in the cab of a steam locomotive. The engineer was kinda young. Niles Canyon Railway near Sunol, California.
We come to Sault St. Marie, Michigan and today starts engineers weekend. Lots of activities and we get to watch many of the freighters going up bound and down bound.

A good friend and full member of the unbreakable motorcycle club "The Chicken Team of Norway". In addition, he is a skilled engineer in a company that develops parts for the oil industry.
Brittle stars, an alternate common name is the 'serpent stars', are a species-rich class of echinoderms with outstanding regenerative abilities. Living under rocks or in crevices with only the tips of the arms exposed, they are known to be seafloor ecosystem engineers. They reshape the seafloor sediment surface and influence the distribution of other seafloor species. They also provide nutrition to fish, sea stars and crab predators.
Their presence in a sediment sample is one indicator of a healthy benthic community. They embody nature's fragility and resilience.

Engineer Pitbladdo and Conductor Campanini take a Pocono run east out of Scranton on a chilly winter morning, with an excellent leader.
An epic trip - 6-hours, 30-miles from Ouray to Lake City, Colorado - with rough rocky patches, switchbacks, shelf roads, and sweeping vistas all the way, reaching almost 13,000 feet at the summit. A Jeep Badge of Honor trail for good reason.
From TrailsOffroad.com: In the late 1800’s, miners started digging for gold, silver, lead and other ore in the San Juan Mountains. They needed a way to get people and the ore out to the nearby towns. Those roads left by the long-abandoned mines are now some of the most famous off-road trails in the books. Engineer Pass, a 30-mile trail, is one of them and is part of a trail now known as the Alpine Loop.
There are multiple mine ruins to view and explore the grounds of along the way including the Hard Tack Mine and the Michael Breen Mine.
Mile after mile provides new and more amazing views of Colorado and the San Juan mountains. Oh Point and the official summit have breath-taking panoramas of the mountains.
This trail goes well above the timberline at just over 12,900’. With the altitude comes stunning views of the mountains to the north including the Uncompahgre, Coxcomb, Wetterhorn and Wildhorse mountain peaks. The view is so expansive at Oh Point that on a very clear day, you might be able to see all the way to Utah if you turn your eyes to the west.

With engineer Andrea back at the throttle, the big 4-8-4 puts on another show of steam powers as it lifts its train up the grade at Cherry Crest Farm. The grade is just enough with the longer train to make the big J dig in a bit.
Utah Railway engineer Stu Turner commands the controls of the RUT311 local as it rumbles into North Salt Lake, Utah, on May 15, 2012. Stu was one of the kindest railroaders I've ever met, offering a friendly wave or a trackside chat. He was tragically taken from us in July 2020 due to brain cancer.
Sometimes my mind goes blank when it comes to titles. This title is referring to a review of the lens I was using for this photo. In this review they call this Leica Elmarit 60 mm f2.8 lens for a soulful engineer. I think it is quite fitting to this photo which I actually think have some soul to it. What do you think?

Although its 6.30 in the morning, before Corvid on a weekday the station at Manningtree would by busy with commuters and the car park filling up. However just myself and another enthusiast are on the platform when 37425 brings the return Hockley to Whitemoor engineers through with the JJR Autoballesters. The sun is head on at this time in the morning but the sight and sound of 37425 opening up aftter being stopped in the platform was worth the early morning bike ride.

Taken at Oakenshaw, a class 40 hauls a short engineers train south along the midland main line. The train is on the move, the guys enjoying a fag and fresh air, and I don't suppose anyone fell off!
On August 31st, 2023, well known railroader Mike Del Vecchio passed away after a battle with cancer. Although I didn't know Mike too well personally, I never heard a bad word spoken about him. Seen here is him posing as the engineer on #4109 during the United Railroad Historical Society's photo shoot in Boonton.

The new building was designed by the British architect Norman, Lord Foster and civil & structural engineers Ove Arup & Partners with service design by J. Roger Preston & Partners, and was constructed by Wimpey International. From the concept to completion, it took seven years (1978–1985). The building is 180 metres high with 47 storeys and four basement levels. The building has a modular design consisting of five steel modules prefabricated in the UK by Scott Lithgow Shipbuilders near Glasgow, and shipped to Hong Kong. About 30,000 tons of steel and 4,500 tons of aluminium were used.
The original design was heavily inspired by the Douglas Gilling designed Qantas International Centre in Sydney (currently known as Suncorp Place).
The new Lobby and its 2-part Asian Story Wall were designed by Greg Pearce, of One Space Limited. Pearce was also the Principal Architect of the Hong Kong Airport Express (MTR) station. Conceived as a minimalist glass envelope, the new lobby is designed to be deferential to Foster's structure and appears almost to be part of the original.
The building is also one of the few to not have elevators as the primary carrier of building traffic. Instead, elevators only stop every few floors, and floors are interconnected by escalators.
The main characteristic of HSBC Hong Kong headquarters is its absence of internal supporting structure.
Another notable feature is that natural sunlight is the major source of lighting inside the building. There is a bank of giant mirrors at the top of the atrium, which can reflect natural sunlight into the atrium and hence down into the plaza. Through the use of natural sunlight, this design helps to conserve energy. Additionally, sun shades are provided on the external facades to block direct sunlight going into the building and to reduce heat gain. Instead of fresh water, sea water is used as coolant for the air-conditioning system.
All flooring is made from lightweight movable panels, under which lies a comprehensive network of power, telecommunication, and air-conditioning systems. This design was to allow equipment such as computer terminals to be installed quickly and easily.
Because of the urgency to finish the project, the construction of the building relied heavily on off-site prefabrication; components were manufactured all over the world. For example, the structural steel came from Britain; the glass, aluminium cladding and flooring came from the United States while the service modules came from Japan.
The inverted 'va' segments of the suspension trusses spanning the construction at double-height levels is the most obvious characteristic of the building. It consists of eight groups of four aluminium-clad steel columns which ascend from the foundations up through the core structure, and five levels of triangular suspension trusses which are locked into these masts.

With an Engineering Possesion at the weekend i went down to the station to catch some of the return engineering trains on Sunday afternoon. DB Cargo 66057 brings the 6K15 Priesthill and Darnley to Carrlisle NY through the up platform.
After some considerable time and a couple of false starts I finally manage to phot' a TPE 68 on the 6K05 Carlisle - Crewe engineers' trunk service.
68029 approaches Ais Gill summit in perfect conditions with Wednesday's uniform consist.
