This was an old pump that has been rotting behind our back yard in the bush, it was used about 30 years ago for a market garden that used to be here in Lajamanu.

I have been working on this idea for a couple of months. I was cleaning up our workshop at work, when I was just about to throw this engine sump in the scrap bin, when I had a thought. I have seen people make guitars out of Cigar boxes, ammo tins, even car mufflers, so I thought , why not an engine sump pan??
It has all been made from scrap material and old spare guitar parts. It needs a final set up, but otherwise, it plays, sounds great and has given me hours of enjoyment in making it, It weighs 7.1kg's so it's truly a heavy metal guitar.

Not sure what they do with their gear at night time - probably throw a tarpaulin over it all.

Rolls Royce RB 211 Fan as an art installation at Chatsworth House, 2012
This fan of a jet engine was presented to the Duke of Devonshire by Rolls-Royce plc . It was made by apprentices at their Derby works .
The RB211 engine has been installed on many types of aircraft but first appeared on an Eastern Airlines, Lockheed TriStar in 1972. After a troubled birth it has matured into a highly reliable engine and has powered a multitude of aircraft types. It made Rolls-Royce Plc into a world leader in the design and manufacture of jet engines .
The original claims of a possible 50 years of continuous development should prove to be true in a year or so , albeit in its successor the Trent engine. This can be found in service with todays most succesful airliners such as the Airbus A330, A340, A350, A380 and Boeing 777 and 787

On a photowalk along the dock and an industrial area, I came across this poor abandoned Santa.

How do these enterprises find what they are looking for? This one appears better organised than many of the others.
I like this image because the spares so dominate the soi (lane).

These four-valve cylinder heads and cylinders are destined for installation in a Rolls Royce Merlin engine.
Each valve - 48 per engine - is lapped by hand, not by machine.

Nearly-complete cylinder head assembly, which I believe will be installed on a Rolls Royce Merlin engine.
In the 21st century, auto makers brag about overhead cams, four-valve cylinders and many other features. Those are very sound ideas, but many people don't realize that they were pioneered in the late 1930s, then mass-produced and proven in countless aircraft engines that helped win World War II.
