Sister to the shot "Punctured..." this explores the relationship between the parts, which Gehry does to perfection.
My urge to publish is stronger than my sense as I wait for a lens, but in doing there is pounding and in pounding there is building; and building something is better than not building at all...

Baby African Bush Elephants, scientifically known as Loxodonta africana, are incredibly adorable and endearing creatures. They are born weighing around 200-250 pounds (90-115 kilograms) and stand about 2.5 to 3 feet (76-91 centimeters) tall at the shoulders.
These young elephants are highly social animals and rely on close bonds with their family members for protection and learning. They are under the constant care and guidance of their mothers and other experienced female elephants within the herd. Baby elephants stay close to their mothers, learning essential survival skills, such as finding water, identifying edible plants, and understanding social behaviors within the herd.
Play is an essential aspect of their early development. They engage in playful activities, such as mock charging, splashing in water, and chasing birds or other small animals. Through play, they hone their motor skills and social interactions, preparing them for adulthood.
Baby African Bush Elephants are heartwarming creatures to observe in the wild, and their presence contributes to the rich tapestry of life in the African savannah.

Over an extended weekend we did a 2000 miles roadtrip from California to Nevada to Utah and back: destination badlands near Hanksville. We went to the Cathedral Gorge State Park located in Nevada near the Utah border. The park’s beauty formed from volcanic activity that deposited layers of ash hundreds of feet thick. Erosion has carved dramatic and unique patterns in the soft bentonite clay, here a tall chimney that is over 100 feet hight.

A robin in our back garden landing on the fork Rachel wasn't at that point using. This is not a Photoshop job!! (Well, beyond a crop, levels, slight sharpen.) I just happened to have the macro lens (f=105mm) on the camera, which helped.
This photo appeared in this week's North Hawaii News, which was published this morning.
This was the first assignment where I was both the story writer and photographer. The article I wrote is found below this photo's byline, seen here:

Studies In The Art Of The Slack Key
by Bill Adams
The Waimea Music Exchange store at Parker Center was filled with the beautiful sounds of Hawaiian music this past Saturday morning as a group of students from Cornell University participated in a slack key guitar lesson taught by the Big Island's own Don Kauli'a, whose album "Sweet Wahine" was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award.
The students are enrolled in Cornell's Earth and Environmental Systems (EES) Field Program. A 5-month course which spans the entire spring semester, students engage in field, class and laboratory studies focused on the various ecosystems of our Hawaiian island chain and of Hawaii's history and culture.
Led by Professor Dr. Alexandra Moore, the EES Field Program is based out of Waimea and hosted by the Hawaii Preparatory Academy. The students' living quarters is the 8-bedroom Waiaka House near the main campus of HPA.
Dr. Moore explained, "The students are immersed in studies geared towards "Kumu Pa'a I Ka 'Aina, which translates to 'Knowledge and understanding that comes from the land.'"
The stated mission of the EES Field Program is "To inspire stewardship of the Earth through first-hand experience with the power, and fragility, of Earth's interconnected systems."
Upon completion of the EES Field Program, students will achieve 18 credit hours from courses such as; Field Study of the Earth System, Biogeochemistry of the Hawaiian Islands, Field Study of Marine Ecosystems, Internship Experience, and an Introduction to Hawaiian History and Culture, which included Saturday's slack key guitar lesson.
The Program stresses the importance of respecting the Hawaiian ancestral lands and to give something back to the community by engaging in a variety of service learning (in class) projects and local volunteer opportunities. Students are also encouraged to explore ways in which they can contribute to the well-being of their adopted community.
Before Saturday's lesson began, the students were able to briefly meet and chat with another famous Big Island slack key guitar master, Sonny Lim, a 2007 Grammy Award winner for his work on the album, "Slack Key Guitar Volume 2".
Participating in Saturday's guitar lessons were a diverse group of five Cornell University students; Hannah Kubica, a junior from Little Falls, New York, Keisuke Irie, a senior from Bergen County, New Jersey, Matt Connelly, a sophomore from Syracuse, New York, Kourtney Reynolds, a senior from San Diego, California and Tyler Huth, a sophomore from Boston, Massachusetts.
More information about Cornell University's EES Field Program can be found on the Internet at www.geo.cornell.edu/hawaii.

Toys that really are engaging

The F-35B STOVL operation is made possible through the Rolls-Royce patented shaft-driven LiftFan® propulsion system and an engine that can swivel 90 degrees when in short takeoff/vertical landing mode. Rolls-Royce is subcontracted to Pratt & Whitney on the F135 engine to provide the Lift System for the Lightning II. The Rolls-Royce LiftSystem® is the first to enable Short Take Off and Vertical Landing (STOVL) operations for supersonic-capable aircraft.

Satellite Laser and Radio Ranging System:
One of the 1.3 Gigawatt Pulsed Lasers at Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO), tracking a Satellite as it passes overhead.
About this specific Laser Ranging System:
"The system can range to satellites with an orbital altitude of 25 000 km, perform continuous tracking of navigation signals from GLONASS and Global Positioning System satellites, take measurements of current navigation parameters and receive navigation messages transmitted from the satellites." - SARAO News.
Note: This was shortly after dark and what seems to be a bright star above the laser, is in fact the planet Jupiter.
Just for fun - how powerful is 1.3 Gigawatt?
It is more than Doc Brown needed in Back to the Future!
A big thank you to Heystek Grobler from HartRAO for showing me around.

The Kiefernstraße, literally pine street but which could also be called street art street, is a well-known street in Düsseldorf not for its luxury shops like the Kö or its Kneipe like the Bolkerstraße but for its originality, its colors May especially its history.
It is located in the district of Flingern Sud, a former factory district of which some vestiges remain and connects Erkratherstraße and Fichtenstraße.
Kiefernstraße, a colorful street, alternative and steeped in history... From the facade decorated with crossword puzzles to that of monkeys, dragons or insects, passing by the puzzle facade, or the rainbow children's club, we take full view!
The buildings on Kiefernstraße were built in 1902 by the Klöckner Werke company to house its workers. When the factory closed in 1975, the housing became state property and the tenants were asked to leave because the area was destined to be demolished and transformed into a commercial area, despite a growing housing shortage.
A real fight began in 1981 between the city on one side and the illegal occupants (odd side) and refugees (even side) on the other, supported by the Zakk, a neighboring cultural centre.
In 1986 members of the RAF (Red Army Faction – Baader Band), which is raging in Germany, were arrested in Kiefernstraße causing multiple demonstrations and police raids.
It was not until 1988 that the city finally awarded leases to squatters.
These were supposed to release the apartments in 2008, the city finally decided to extend the leases indefinitely.
The years of trouble have left their marks on the facades… Street art artists have expressed themselves, there are many messages.
The Kiefernstraße is today 800 inhabitants and 45 nationalities... A beautiful melting pot and real street life... While the older ones chat on the sidewalks, the children play in the middle of the street. And this is no longer the infrequent neighborhood of the 80s!
There is also a Kultur Büro, a Kinder club and at n°23 the mythical night club AK47 where the cult punk group of the 80s “Die Toten Hosen” performed. It was still working until the pandemic.
