Another shot from Saturday's wedding- a great setting and the first of our 100% indoor wedding shoots. One thing that we found so much better with this shoot : the flash batteries! previously we were buying new batteries for each shoot only to have to change them over mid way through and wait for long recycle times. Sanyo eneloops lasted the whole day even with continuous shutter depression at times. bottom line - rechargeables = the way to go !

A possible for next Monday's Macro Monday challenge "B&W".
The only colour in this image was the larger eneloop word, and that was in blue.

20210120_0830_7D2-40 Sangean radios (020/365)
Recently I have been having a sort out (clean out) of stuff in storage and came across, firstly the small Sangean ATS303, a radio I purchased in Fiji about 25 years ago. I found that it had in it a set of four Eneloop batteries that I thought I had lost.
A couple of weeks later I found the larger ATS803, a radio I purchased second hand from Cash Converters about 2003 or 2004. That had stopped working for some reason and I had stored it away. I now think it was the power supply, as it is working fine with batteries (six x D and two x AA).
Both were set to FM 101.7 (National Radio New Zealand).

Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer.

**UPDATE** - 2011-MAY-13
Since this photo I posted a few months ago, I've already added a few more gems to my bag. I now have 4x Alienbees B800's instead of 2 shown in the photo. I have a Canon 24-70mm 2.8L, Canon 85mm f/1.2, two more spider holsters (so 4 total now), and 2x new carbon fiber manfrotto tripods.
The best way to list everything in this photo would be to use notes. So make sure (on flickr) you run your mouse over the photo to see the notes tagged in the image.
You can download the original, un-resized version here, its 26MB, and 18045x13255 pixels:

Strobist Info: 300w with shoot through umbrella on left and right. each item shot separately on white floor then merged in photoshop.
My Favorite "Must Have" accessories from above:
1. Manfrotto 244RC Variable Friction Magic Arm
2. Manfrotto 122B & 003 Backlight stand (mini foldable lightstand)
3. Manfrotto Superclamps
4. Photoflex Telescopic Litedisc Holder (For Lights), at least 1, you don't need 4. I bought 4 cause I loved it so much and I have only used maybe 2 at a time.
5. RadioPopper JrX
6. Tamrac 5788 Evolution 8 Backpack (This is the brown backpack in the upper left corner, I took this on a vacation and was able to fit 2 DSLRs, 9 lenses including the 70-200, 1 Macbook Air, 2 iPads, Batteries and chargers, GoPros, Memory card readers and cards, RadioPoppers, 2x Speedlites, and more. That backpack fits a BUNCH of stuff)
7. Spider Holsters, especially if you ever use 2 cameras at the same time, in that case, get 2.
8. Eneloop Batteries
This favorites list of course does not included lenses, lights or cameras. If I had to only choose a couple lenses, I would choose the 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro and the 16-35mm, (The 15mm Fisheye is great too). If I had to only keep a couple lights, I'd keep the speedlites cause they are portable. If I had to choose 1 camera, it would be the 5D Mark II.

The old pier North Berwick.
I had been planning to go over to the East Lothian coast for a day on a sunrise and sunset shoot.
I had woken up at midnight after one hours sleep to see a wonderful clear night and a bright moon and decided to go out for some night shooting and then headed over to East Lothian: about an hour and ¼ drive.
Took a few other shots I’d been thinking about before this but the position of the moon left the light pretty flat looking (moon was south in the sky) so went to this spot looking west where I knew I could get nice side lighting from the moon on the rocks.
I made quite a few shots at his location around 4am (and about -2 C). My favourite composition was down on the rocks below but I got some hairy moments and a soaking trying to take the shot. I even lost the back of my remote cable release and 2 eneloop AAA batteries in a grab the tripod and run episode.Given that it was 4am and there was nobody around I decided caution was the better part of valour and decided to leave the shot I wanted for daylight when I could see the rouge waves coming. There was not much of a swell but there was occasionally and not on any pattern I could recognise some pretty big waves coming in.
Surprisingly I went back just before going home about 1.30pm and found the back of my cable release and batteries in a small deep circular hollow in the rocks.
Sunrise didn’t amount to anything and I was too tired to stay for sunset. I think I’ve also goosed my 24-70 lens bashing it on the rocks down at Seacliff later in the morning……bummer.
Many thanks to Blue Fin Art for the location tips.
