Baburgh St Aidan's Church.

According to Bede, St Aidan built a wooden church outside the castle wall in AD 635, and he died here in AD 652. A wooden beam preserved inside the church is traditionally said to be the one on which he rested as he died.

The present church dates from the late 12th century,

Hiking through time and space with my companion tripod

I experimented with wombo art to make this.

I used the text:

Scary, end of the world, and picked the style call Malevolent.

This is not quite the result I did get, I added edits in DxOPhotolab using Analog.

The photo I used as a base is one I posted earlier.

It is in the comment box.

So you can see that I was exploring new worlds while the heat wave kept me indoors for the evening.

If the world was ending

You'd come over, right?

I think this old message under plaster has become a prophecy at last.....

I took a walk the other day to the end of time, but it got late and I had to come home.

Image imagined in MidJourney AI and finished with Topaz Studio 2.0 and Lightroom Classic.

If houses here are green, I’ll step inside a house.

If bridges here are sound, I’ll walk on solid ground.

If love’s labour’s lost in every age, I’ll gladly lose it here.

If it’s not me, it’s one who is as good as me.

If a word here borders on me, I’ll let it border.

If Bohemia still lies by the sea, I’ll believe in the sea again.

And believing in the sea, thus I can hope for land.

If it’s me, then it’s anyone, for he’s as worthy as me.

I want nothing more for myself. I want to go under.

Under – that means the sea, there I’ll find Bohemia again.

From my grave, I wake in peace.

From deep down I know now, and I’m not lost.

Come here, all you Bohemians, seafarers, dock whores, and ships

unanchored. Don’t you want to be Bohemians, all you Illyrians,

Veronese and Venetians. Play the comedies that make us laugh until we cry.

And err a hundred times,

as I erred and never withstood the trials,

though I did withstand them time after time.

As Bohemia withstood them and one fine day

was released to the sea and now lies by water.

I still border on a word and on another land,

I border, like little else, on everything more and more,

a Bohemian, a wandering minstrel, who has nothing, who

is held by nothing, gifted only at seeing, by a doubtful sea,

the land of my choice.

My Interplanetary Memories

Planet Dokeia

Interplanetary Travel

Could the progress of time be unstoppable? Could the perception of time be changed? Is it possible to go out of time? There was no time in the vacuum of space. But there was an advancing time period for me on planet Earth. It was a progression that brought me closer to the end. As we approached our end, our experiences turned into memories. Our friends and all our relatives started to disappear one by one in this notion of time. The cities we lived in began to change and the faces we knew began to become alienated. The concept of loneliness had taken over us more and more as time progressed. What, then, did the concept of what we call time mean? Change? lost? Loneliness? Which was the word that would describe time better.

I was incredibly lucky few days ago, to be at the right place at the right time to capture this unbelievable dust and normal storm combined over the Kuwait City. Photo I always dreamt of taking but never really thought I would get it. Amazing moment when bright day has turned into dark night in 10 min in the early part of the day. It felt like end of the world is here.

Natural phenomena like this is part of season called Al-Sarrayat ( Local thunderstorms). It usually develops in the afternoon or during night and is occasionally accompanied with severe dust storms during which visibility may fall to zero. The resulted rain may be very heavy and usually occur during a few minutes. The south – easterly winds during this period become hot and humid . Air temperature is characterized by sudden changes and may drop to 10C within one minute. Temperatures from one day to another are changeable, particularly during the period 11th-30th April. Temperature may rise to the summer level for a few days then drop to a noticeable degree due to the influence of the north – westerly winds. Seabreeze is predominant during May, shifting the north-westerly winds of the morning to easterly in the afternoon, temperature mean ranges between 30C at the beginning of this period and 40 C at the end. Thunderstorms are likely to occur during the intervals : 8 th – 12th , 16th, 22nd, 26th, April and 7th – 10th May.

The day has started as a one of those regular photographers days - Another day & another wake call at 4AM, took some great shots at sunrise & and was going home happy with the result, however bigger surprise was waiting for me when I got home, huge storm and sand storm combined was just "eating" Kuwait City. I have never seen this before when bright day turns into night and all that in 10 min !! I was extremely lucky to go to the roof of my building just before it hit us to capture that incredible dusty cloud covering the city !!

Note that those few photos I was able to capture were done during 4 minutes only !! If I came just few minutes late, I would see just big darkness and soon after lot of rain ! Now I wish I came at least 5 min earlier to capture that view we saw from highway, however a person should not be too greedy and therefore I'm tremendously happy with few of these unusual shots !!

Just to remind you, this is how the same view looks under different conditions :

Oblivion

It's been almost two months now; two months of heading West. I am not sure how much longer I am supposed to go or how much longer I will be able to go. Heading in only one direction, without a spot-on destination is tough. Sometimes you wonder if you passed it, if you missed it, or if you will ever get to it. But in this age and time what else do I have to lose? Nothing! I shall continue going. What I can gain is much more important than dying without trying.

I have noticed, though, that during the last couple of days, there is more of a presence of people in the area. There are more foot tracks on the ground, more areas used as gathering places, more put out fire pits. It is like they are more people all around. Now don't be confused; when I mean more is not like I find these every couple of hundred yards. I mean I find these every couple of miles, whereas before I could go days without noticing anything. This discovery has to mean something. I must be close, but close to what? What will I encounter.

One night, after a couple more days of travelling, just before I set camp to sleep, I noticed this faint glare at a distance... this faint orange kinda hovering light at afar. Like one you would see at night from the lights of a baseball stadium from miles away. Similar to that but different. I could notice it only because it was a dark night, one without moon. One with no haze or smog or fog... a clear dark night. I checked my compass and the glimmer was effectively West! I had found my destination. I was eager and anxious. I wanted to run toward it just then and there, but I had to get my rest. I needed to conserve my energy and plan my approach. I can't get so close to my goal and just let it all go to hell because of lack of planning, triggered by pure desperation and excitement. I went to sleep!

The next morning I started my journey bright and early. It would take me at least a whole new day to get to my destination if I travel at a fast pace. So I packed up and started fast. Still careful of my surroundings and attentive to every noise. After about 16 hours I was close enough to asses the area, but far enough, at least in my mind, to not be detected if they had any kind of patrol. I was at the top of a hill, still miles away. I checked my surroundings, searched for a good spot, much like a sniper would do, and waited there to observe. I took my monocular out of my bag and began observing...... Impressive!

This looks like the last civilization standing. They are running on some sort of energy, that either emanates from the ground or from the sky. It is like a huge bolt. It is surrounded by these huge birds, or at least some kind of animal that flies. I had never seen those before, but hell, I have never being in this situation before either. The city is in a valley, surrounded by hills, with what seems as only one main entrance road. For now that is all I can see, still I continue watching.

After a couple hours of surveillance, and after being up for almost 24 hours, which is not uncommon in these end of times circumstances, I noticed movement. The road is patrolled. Very diligently and very stealthy. As one would say: "You can't just walk into Mordor". From this distance I can't quite see, but I am sure there has to be some kind of huge gate security and more before you get into this remnant of civilization. Also as noticed earlier, you seem to not be able to just walk in, you need to be taken in. I guess I need to start working on finding other ways to get into the city. But now is time to rest. I went to sleep!

The following couple of days I moved closer... slowly and vigilantly. I wanted to be able to monitor the area better without being detected and at the same time, try to pick up any pattern that I could use to my advantage. How do they move, how do they operate. It is clear by now: people that are not careful are captured and taken into the city. They are stripped of their belongings and just taken in by armed guards. Guards.......... Guards! That is my in, I need to be a Guard! By hook or by crook!

I started monitoring dutifully the movement of the guards. Everything, every step, every hour, every minute. Tracked downtime, alone time, changing of shifts and even bathroom time. How they operate and how they communicate. This took me a couple more days. I wanted to make no mistakes. I think I figured it out.

I made my way down to the road...... I am determined, I am prepared, and I am ready.

It is time to enter the gates of hell...... into the Last City!

So quiet on The Millennium Bridge at sunset in the early stages of lockdown that (briefly) in the middle of the bridge nobody interrupted the view. Truly Once In A Millennium.

With so many fewer around in the streets, it was possible to lie down on the approach to the Millennium Bridge and get a different view towards TATE Modern of the few using the crossing under a blazing blue sky at sunset. Weird but good.

Never in the field of London history have so few been seen by so few when there used to be so many.

In some ways, Covent Garden has been the most shockingly empty place probably because it is never empty - until now. Literally alone in Covent Garden on a warm midweek evening, apart from security guards.

Hundreds of gas masks left in a room in the city's main high school and left abandoned since the nuclear accident at the Chernobyl nuclear plant a few miles away.

When Don McCullin photographed Spitalfields almost exactly 50 years ago, it was a slum area with desperate filth encrusted homeless Irish men warming themselves on fires built from fruit boxes on waste ground and bomb sites near the SpitalFields fruit market.

In the intervening years, the fruiterers moved on, the market has closed, been half demolished, cleansed of any character and occupied by yet more shiny glass offices for banks and lawyers and a range of the normal selection of trendy mainstream alternative eateries.

The adjoining area of 18th and 19th century housing was, after staunch resistance by a notable few, saved from demolition in the 80s and 90s. Remarkably, given just how much these buildings now cost gentrified, there are still examples, such as 4 Princelet Street, that probably look largely unchanged from the days of McCullin's visit in 1969.

[Halloween 2023:

I wrote the following back in May 2020. It is cold comfort from the Covid Enquiry revelations today that Johnson was indeed the Killer Clown long suspected, supported and enabled by a disgusting number of incompetents, narcissists, and psycho-phants, many of whom are now walking around rewarded with gongs and titles and bumped up to yet more positions of influence. Apologies now do not cut it, some people should be in prison but of course they will never pay anything for their hubris and incompetence, the nation has paid those debts.]

The law was clear:

Stay in Durham

Protect the Dom

Say Lies

Boris the Killer Clown had no problem apparently with his closest advisor Dom Cummings travelling 260 miles to Durham with his family and then having a 60 mile eye test to and from Barnard Castle in the middle of total lockdown despite the very clear laws that applied to everyone else.

Durham Police declined to prosecute Dom but offered him words of advice. Lesson learned. One rule for the rulers, another for the little people.
