IFPRI Director General Shenggen Fan welcomed the Secretary General and CEO of CARE International, Dr. Wolfgang Jamann to IFPRI’s D.C. headquarters to sign a partnership agreement.
By combining IFPRI’s outstanding research and policy capabilities with CARE’s advocacy, ground level network and implementation expertise the two organizations will advance to fill gaps in policy and build the resilience of undernourished populations while "achieving food security, improving nutrition, promoting gender equality, and ending poverty."

We ran into a game of backyard cricket as we were on our way to Shanti's house. Michael Rennie dishes one up.
Shanti is a Hunger Project animator who thought her fate was sealed, until she learned that by unleashing her own humanity she could take a stand and make a difference in her slum area. With no money, she began a rubbish collection service, and now she employs 18 people, a fleet of handtrucks like these and has set up a microfinance program to assist other women to lead themselves and their families out of poverty.

CROP started as an acronym for Christian Rural Overseas Program. The full title is no longer used. CROP works to assure that people worldwide have sustainable food sources. Part of the funds raised by each local CROP walk across the country also go to the local food pantry.
