This foal kept close to Mum on a wet and windy day on the moors.
The Dartmoor pony is a horse breed that has lived in south western England for centuries and is used for a variety of disciplines. Because of the extreme weather conditions experienced on the moors, the Dartmoor is a particularly hardy breed with excellent stamina. Over the centuries it has been used as a working animal by local tin miners and quarry workers. It is kept in a semi-feral state on Dartmoor.
Despite this, numbers have declined from an estimated 25,800 in the 1930s to about 5,000 today. Only around 800 ponies were known to be grazing the moor in the spring of 2004. (Wikipedia)

Un grand merci pour vos favoris, commentaires et encouragements toujours très appréciés.
Many thanks for your much appreciated favorites and comments.
We had gone to the beach to photograph patterns of blown sand in the snow but instead, found ourselves on a totally bare sandy beach. Lot's of ice still out on the lake but the snow had gone in less than 24 hrs on the warm sunny day. While waiting to see what the sunset would present, three riders and their horses came down the beach. One of them, a very reluctant pinto (I think that's the horse breed) being ridden bareback, would not cross the stream with any amount of encouragement. Finally, one of the other riders came back across and splashed through again to show how it's done. With some very loud snorts and whinnies the pinto finally went through.
Shooting directly into the sun, which is something I'm not fond of doing, there was no time for fine tuning the camera settings for fear of missing the moment. I just went with what I had.
Many thanks of your kindness, encouragement, supports and company all this year. Because of you, there's been a measurable improvement in my photography; because of you, my mind always felt peaceful and also because of you, my English improved a little bit in this year again. :)))
Leo and Flora wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!
Whispering encouragements into the Lamb's ear was all it had taken. Chaos watched as the Lamb opened the first seal, the fingers of her many hands playing along her staff accompanied by the soft metallic sounds of the lantern chain moving against the steel. Whether or not the female figure actually has a face beneath the inky black shroud is a question that has gone unanswered since the beginning.. A few more words are muttered but impossible to make out. Her voice, if that's what it was, came out like a soft breeze moving through the trees, and low enough that only the Lamb could hear them. Moments later the second seal is broken followed by the third...and then the fourth. The air grew heavy as the doors opened, each revealing a mounted figure looming out of the foggy darkness. The four moved toward Chaos, two taking up positions at each of her sides. Raising her right hands, the staff and chain clutched within the triple grip, she extends her arm forward. Not a word was spoken, but as the lantern swung slowly the four urged their mounts into a gallop. The apocalypse is a child of Chaos. It's siblings, Pestilence, War, Famine and Death were it's heralds. Riding far and wide they bestowed their gifts upon humanity, feeding Mother Chaos as they left countless mired in the mortal coil. Like a snowball rolling down a hill and growing with each revolution, so too will Chaos grow in the end of days.

I wanted to make a lovely image of Harpo, sitting up in his most elegant poodle pose wearing reindeer ears. Yeah right. I could not even get a half second of obedience without him ripping the ears off, rolling around and eating them.
Ahh well. If nothing else, I hope this image brings you a smile on this Christmas after what has been a very challenging year.
To all my Flickr family (and you do feel like family) I want to thankyou for your kindness and support, encouragement, whit and wisdom and your willingness to always engage and share. That is what I love most about you all. Thanks for always being here even though I have not always been able to reciprocate as much as I’d like at times throughout the year.
I have given up on thinking about what surprises and challenges might be in store for the New Year but whatever may come, I know we will continue to be here for each other, sharing our images and stories and providing that connectedness that we all need.
Wishing you all the very best of health and happiness in whatever way you celebrate Christmas.
May you always be courageous, stand upright and be strong.
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung

Hebrews 6:17-18 New International Version (NIV)
17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.

To give you a little encouragement in the midst of these horrific fires going on in Australia, meet one of the dogs saving koalas from Australian wildfires - a true story:
Thursday, January 9, 2020
As Australian wildfires endanger the lives of thousands of koalas, one dog is stepping up to save her fellow furry friends.
Taylor, a four-year-old English Springer Spaniel, is trained to sniff out koala fur and droppings, said her owner and professional dog trainer Ryan Tate.
To date, Taylor has rescued eight of the country's iconic marsupials from wildfires, which have destroyed more than 2,000 homes, claimed at least 26 human lives and potentially killed thousands of koalas.
Some of these animals were hospitalized, and others were taken to areas deemed safe, Tate said.
Tate and his skillful pup have been traveling along the east coast of Australia for nearly three years. Over her lifetime, Taylor has found more than 50 koalas.
Tate said when the air is still, koalas' scents descend from treetops to the ground, so when Taylor smells an animal, she will sit below a tree and point up.
In more difficult conditions, like the recent fires, she's also trained to find their droppings, and fresh poo is a good indicator that koalas are nearby.

From a recent walk. Tempted to desaturate these vibrant leaves, but loses the autumn feel. Cloudy with intermittent sun. Love this path. Yes, it does lean left—the lake bank is to the right. Should I straighten it?

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

TIME OF NO REPLY – NICK DRAKE
THIS IS THE SUMMER OF MY TRANSITION
The devil that was within me
that found me, then drowned me
could not withstand
the beauty of my love for him
the softness of my gentle hand
could not witness the words that I wrote
could not cope with love that gave him hope
he inhabited my soul and it choked him from within
now he scurries through the darkness
avoiding any last vestige of light; avoiding my eyes
he hides and he lies to rid himself of the truth
that he found within that last dance
he burned me, he scorned me, but then he adored me
he haunted my dreams and begged my return
but I found myself healing as I walked along the shore
the pace of my mind slowed; the peace of my mind showed
that at last I could let go and be myself once more
I walked in his shadow, until I found the light
before I lived like a shadow with no strength to fight
A poor tortured soul; I know how that feels
when love can't release him; thaw his soul cold as steel
Sometimes our love falls on stony ground
like the softness of rose petals and the hope that we once found
dashed against the rocks of life's lessons
deafened by the torment that resounds within our caissons
and lifts us up above the maelstrom of the storms
that threaten to define us and defile us; confine us
This is the summer of my transition
as I find my way back to the right path that heals me
I leave him far behind me; the nightmare recedes
now I sleep like an angel on clouds of soft dreams
and feel lucky that I am still here
amid the love of all my friends.

I'd like to thank everybody for the immense and unexpected amount of support of and encouragement for my Flux series that has ended yesterday. I hadn't planned this kind of images while I took the pictures and it all pretty much happened all by itself.
Here is a little encore to the series - the color version of the shot that started the series.
Enjoy!

We're an agreeable little gang really. All about encouragement and positivity you know. None of us shamelessly trying to outscore the others or anything underhand like that. Although sometimes, but not always, there's a kind of unspoken competition going on. It's never announced that there even was a contest taking place until after the event, and there's no official judging panel. What tends to happen is that the other two look at the back of your camera, coo in grudging appreciation and say something such as, “yes, you've won that one.” No big prize giving ceremony - no brand ambassadorship or gift wrapped set of brand new magnetic filters, no silverware, nor even a bottle of fizz. Chances are the award will have been entirely forgotten later or the winning image cancelled by a late entrant that was stolen from the gods at last light. As accolades go in our world, being told you've won that one is about as good as it gets.
This afternoon we were crashing around beneath the canopy in the woods at the edge of the moor, exploring the network of small tracks that led away from the main path, seeking out lone forest oddities, the ones that somehow stood out from the surrounding pack. In deepest February only the firs and spruces held their foliage, while the rest stood spartan and unadorned, save for the creeping strangulation of ivy tendrils and thick coats of green moss that spread across the bark and protected it from winter’s advance. Ferns hung from huge Ent faces in bearded tresses. And all was silent here beneath the forest roof. Except for the inane twittering of three middle aged men with cameras, who could be surprisingly noisy at times.
This fine beast of the forest was just waiting to be discovered. A soaring tower of sprawling green limbs, all knobbled and gnarled, trapped within a nest of bare twigs waiting for spring to arrive and dress them with new life. It seemed as if at any moment it might uproot itself and march across the glade in our direction, waving multiple arms in fury and driving us from the forest so it could continue its winter slumbers in peace. A perfect subject for the long end of the telephoto lens to pick out the elements that caught the eye and frame them against the dark forest background. It seemed that I was the only one who spotted it. But then again, I was the only one who was looking through the viewfinder at more than three hundred millimetres. With a wider lens, the Ent might have been lost in the forest confusion. There were a number of equally characterful specimens to be found here in the forest, but this one had the added attraction of offering a shot with a complete absence of distracting sky poking through holes in the canopy behind.
When you're rewarded with the honour of “today's winner” by your comrades, the standard response is to rebut the unwarranted praise in favour of one of their efforts with a vaguely plausible level of self denial, before reluctantly accepting the news with no small degree of sanguine modesty. Maybe a shrug in a “how did that happen?” sort of way. It simply wouldn't do to go racing through the cover, arms aloft and singing “We are the Champions,” at the top of your voice. Not cricket at all you know. I tried to remember this and merely nodded and allowed myself a quiet grin as the Tolkienesque forest guardian was unanimously acknowledged to be today's winner.
Thank you for your encouragement... it is much appreciated... and I love your photographs from all over the world... it is a daily education and I value viewing your beautiful images very much...

Song of Encouragement for the Orme Ascent.
Broke the journey to Abersoch for a nostalgic visit to the Great Orme, timed nicely to drop back down into Conwy for 47593 passing the castle on 1Z47 with the LSL Mark 3 set and DVT.
