Le premier phare de Ploumanac’h date de 1860. Détruit par les troupes allemandes le 4 août 1944, il a été remplacé par le phare actuel en 1946 (premier allumage en octobre 1948). De nuit, il est repérable grâce à son feu rouge à occultations avec un secteur blanc. Cette dernière couleur n'étant visible qu'entre l'île Tomé et l'île Rouzic. La version actuelle a été construite par Martin et frère (entreprise de BTP local de l'époque) selon les plans des architectes Henry Auffret et Hardion. Ces derniers ont dû travailler de concert avec les Beaux Arts pour construire la tour en granite rose de La Clarté, de manière qu'il s'harmonise avec le cadre environnant, classé et protégé peu avant la guerre. Les mosaïques intérieures sont l’œuvre de l'artiste Odorico.
Du phare, on a une vue directe sur le château de Costaérès, l'île Renote et sur l'archipel des Sept-Îles.
Le phare tire son nom usuel du village voisin de Ploumanac'h signifiant en français la « mare du moine ». Le nom officiel « phare de Mean Ruz » est issu d'une cacographie de l'expression bretonne Maen Ruz, signifiant pierre rouge.

Zosteria rosevillensis, a member of Robber Flies, Family Asilidae
Not the nicest of insects but visually interesting :)
The "Common Brown Robber Fly" is a common name for various robber flies in the genus Zosteria, but specifically refers to Zosteria rosevillensis. These are predatory insects found in Australia, easily identified by their brown body, reddish-brown legs, and strong legs for catching prey in flight. As with all robber flies, they have a triangular proboscis for injecting saliva and liquefying their prey's insides.
They prey on a wide variety of other insects, making them beneficial for controlling pest populations. /
Les Asilides forment une grande famille de Diptères
Brachycères avec près de 7 100 espèces décrites (van den
Broek et al. 2017). Ils couvrent l’ensemble des continents (hors
Antarctique), préférant les milieux thermophiles et sableux.
L’Europe compte près de 500 espèces de ces Diptères
prédateurs, la plus grande diversité se trouvant dans le Sud du continent. Il existe aussi une faune montagnarde avec quelques genres et espèces spécifiquement représentés (Lasiopogon,Cyrtopogon par exemple) (Lair & van den Broek 2021). EnFrance, la faune est en cours de révision (Lair et al.en
préparation), estimée à environ 150 espèces (hors Corse).
