Seen while walking at Mill Lake in Abbotsford, B.C. (22-04-06-2068)

363::365 December 29, 2009

I've wanted to take this exact shot for at least 6 months, but kept putting it off as it takes all kinds of willpower to get up at 3am, leave the house at 4 then drive down to sixteen beach in Rye.

It took even more willpower when I realised I left my Tripod mount for my camera on the kitchen bench when I was halfway down eastlink and had to turn around. As a result of my poor packing, I just missed the sunrise but was still able to get some nice long exposure shots of the "Dragon" rock which was my main purpose for going.

Despite crappy weather and rain I'm happy with the result. To be honest I'm just happy I didn't damage or lose anything! I wasn't sure I'd get away clean with this one as the rocks are around 100m off shore, very slippery and difficult to get too. Many enthusiasts have lost their camera gear here as the area is filled with very small rock pool formations that are surprisingly deep, one miss step and you can kiss your phone, car keys, and your camera gear goodbye!

It's amazing to see the colors that emerge just after sunset at the Grand Canyon.

Can you imagine being out and shooting for a week and getting only one nice sunset? Well, that lucky guy is me... I recently had a chance to lead a week-long workshop along the beautiful Washington & Oregon coast. Here is one of the shots I made. Enjoy!

The mist has been down all day, but it sure does make for some atmospheric photography.

Kept the color, kept the side glance but made it less severe.

Lost this guy in the willows and tried to predict where he might come out. Timed it just right as he emerged into an opening, headed for the river. Photographed earlier this fall in RMNP. Have a great day!

Taken in Late afternoon.

As the tide drops, the Bowling Balls of Bowling Ball Beach California, emerge... A wonderful sight to see... The bowling balls are only visible on tides of less than 3 foot and to get this kind of shot requires standing waste deep in the sea with tripod and waders...

Hope you enjoy!

I used the built-in flash to light up the foliage above us. The weak light and small range of the built-in flash really came in handy here as it lit up the center just enough to highlight the yellow leaves a little and helped create a nice vignetting effect around the edges. Oh, and the 10-20 still roxx :)

The Stars Emerge - Dawn, West Coast of New Zealand.

This was an area on the West Coast of New Zealand that I just had to visit. I photographed the location over 4 days, trying to make the most of my time there. Seeing as this stretch of coast is only accessible at low tide I had to get in and out quickly, while constantly keeping an eye on the fast moving tide.

It was a photograph of this area by Kah Kit Yoong that put the place on my radar. Make sure you check out his work if you have not already.

One I took a couple of years back now and each year I check this place to see if they are growing, but last year no joy so will try later this month.

A different shot (at least for me) of the tulip fields of North Holland. I’m usually drawn to the strong lines in the fields but the lack of clouds during the sunrise made me think different for this one. So I took out the long lense and this is the result…

This one form a quick (between lockdowns) hiking visit to Germany, and served as an introduction to the delights of the mountains near Mittenwald.

Very changeable weather as we arrived, so very difficult to put the camera down and just enjoy...it took a couple of Weiss Beirs to persuade me !!

i'm sorry for not being able to comment on everyones streams as much as I would have liked lately....

...from a heavy morning mist a couple of weeks ago. This is about as clear as it got before the mist lifted into low cloud and obscured everything.
