It's not easy to spot the tiny specimens of the Pea-shaped Bird's Nest (Nidularia deformis - Eierzakje) on branches or twigs of deciduous or coniferous trees. Their fruit bodies resemble tiny egg-filled bird nests. There may be over 100 "eggs" or peridioles embedded in each fruit body. The membranes of the fruit bodies are ruptured by falling raindrops, after which the impact of additional raindrops dislodges the peridioles with their spores. Fairly common in my country, mainly in forests on sandy soils. Probably often overlooked. © Tom Kisjes
