…..A nice Cornish ‘Sea Fix’ today I thought would be in order seeing as the weather is not so good a the moment in many places and a forecast of 65 - 70 MPH to hit the coast suggests some rather bigger waves are to come!!!!! Stay safe & cosy everyone. .….. Alan:-)

Heart Spring

Upper Geyser Basin

Yellowstone National Park

Immediately southeast of the Lion Group, Heart Spring is a pretty pool of clear blue water, 15 feet deep and 10 feet across, enclosed by white sinter mats and orange-brown algae. It was named in the 1950s because of its heart-like shape. The pool is generally inactive, its water temperature a little below boiling. www.americansouthwest.net

Last October, I visited Venice for the first time. I had two days available between scouting out Tuscany for a workshop running Sept this year and leading my annual workshop in the Dolomites.

It's certainly an interesting place and as expected, was pretty busy which frustrated me no end (hence why I've decided not to run a workshop in Venice now) but one of the ways that I sought to get around that problem was to head out with my camera at 4am.

I started with Piazza San Marco (St Mark's Square) and I really enjoyed walking around on my own (bar the odd drunken local too, lol). But en-route to shooting sunrise from the Ponte dell'Accademia Bridge, I went in search of some lovely quaint back alley and canals when I came across this one.

It was perfect. It had boats, wonderful buildings, a couple of illuminated street lights and a gorgeous metal bridge. How could I resist really? I much prefer exploring cities overnight, when the best bits are all lit up and it's so quiet. To this end, Venice delivered the goods but alas, no sooner did the sunrise, the streets filled. Still, the waterways and alleyways are near deserted at the moment, giving the city some much-needed downtime from the hordes of tourists (me included).

I do wonder what if any, changes will be implemented to help preserve the city in the near future. An interesting point for me to ponder on while I have the time to do so.

One last reflection image from last weekend's trip to the Herring Run. Most of these leaves are gone now. Just a week later, all these trees are bare.

" Spring Migrant Takes a Rest Stop: This tiny rufous hummingbird, seen here nectaring on buckeye flowers in a Fremont park, will likely soon be making its way north to its summer breeding grounds in Canada. One of the smallest of its kind, the rufous undertakes the longest trip of all North American hummers. It's also one of the feistiest: The male is known to passionately defend its nest from much larger attackers. The rufous is common yet declining in parts of its range and is believed to be particularly sensitive to climate change.

Furry Friends....

One November morning I ventured out quite early, it was very cold; typical for this time of year. i noticed a squirrel busy collecting and stashing his horde of nuts for the long winter ahead. he stopped his frantic behavior for just long enough for me to take this photo. then he was off at a frenetic pace scurrying about on his merry way.

Thank you for visiting for marking my photo as a favourite and for the kind comments,

James -

Here are photos of the tornado forming, along with a description of each.

My friend, Nick Lee, is a storm spotter. He and I were out taking these

photos that day. He is the copyright owner and has given me permission to

share them with you.

Dirk

P.S.: Please use the descriptions somehow in your description of the photos.

Description of photos:

Tornado-1: shows the storm coming around the corner into view.

Tornado-2: Inflow notch seen - this is where the air feeding the updraft was

located at.

Tornado-3 & 4: Tornado on ground getting closer to City of Cullman. At this

point it was passing Good Hope and going through Cullman County.

Tornado-5: Here you can see another vortex forming. What we were witnessing

was a rapid intensification of this storm from an EF2 to a multi-vortex EF4.

Tornado-6: Even though the funnel is hard to see, the tornado was still on

the ground. Here you can see the multiple vortexes spinning around the one

in the middle that looks like it is invisible.

"cant you people knock?!"

Eloise has a soak after going on a (seriously) 10+ mile hike. she likes the service tub because it is just her size. and the water stays hot longer.

This image is available to license now from Getty Images in a range of sizes. Just send an email to pmulligan2001@yahoo.com and I'll send you the link pronto. I get a small cut from the sale and you get to use the image legally. Thanks.

I always achieve a lots amazing stuff when I back to my hometown. For It is a little comparatively unfamiliar that made me observe the surrouding much more carefuly.

part of the "jardin d'émail", a large black and white sculpture by Jean Dubuffet. This sculpture is huge - you can walk around on it's multi-level surface...

It was built specially for the sculpture garden at the Kröller-Müller museum in the Netherlands where it still stands today.

One of Sophia's flowers enlarged for a tote. Applique on light yellow. See the sunny interior too.
