Elo Sambo (1885-1933) was a Cameroonian who became a German soldier and kettle drummer of the Life Guard Hussars. He served through the Great War rising to the rank of Vize Wachtmeister. He was awarded the Iron Cross First and Second Class as well as bring wounded twice. He would continue as a kettle drummer after the war and even in civilian life continued to perform at veteran and civilian events. He died and is buried in Germany. This is my second photo of him. This one the dealer knew the photo was oi a kettle drummer but did not seem to notice that the drummer was black.

Another unknown chapter of the Brazilian Air Force in WWII in Italy was the 1st ELO (obsevation and liasion squadron) that was send to Italy with 10 Pipers L-4 and 11 pilots to support the brazilian army 1st expedicionary division. They performed 684 combat missions from november,1944 to the end of war, and suffered no losses. They supported not only the brazilian troops, but also the Americans and british troops in the area.
