Enjoy an image of the skyline of Seattle, Washington, USA, a few minutes before sunrise in April 2021.

You can review a reverse timelapse that features this image here. It's in reverse because the actual daybreak was less impressive than I had anticipated. However, when seen in reverse (as though it was a sunset instead of a sunrise), it looks much more engaging.

Another cloudy day in Seattle, Washington from the Bainbridge Ferry. It's hard to believe it's been 17 years since I took this pic. It was also among my first pics from a digital camera. The last week of February 2022, to me, was one of the darkest weeks in our collective world history.

On top of all the existing problems, critical issues, and pressing challenges the world is already facing, a completely unnecessary and avoidable war in Eastern Europe erupted. This event and the resulting humanitarian toll are complete anathema to me.

I am angry about the absurdity. I am concerned for my friends and contacts in Europe. I am stressed about the uncertainty of what might or might not occur in the short-term and long-term with the aggressor. I also feel useless and powerless to do anything to counter this...but I am heartened by the resolve and determination of the Ukrainians.

On Saturday morning, after all the terrible news that very few of us could ignore, I woke up to this scene from the balcony of my home in Seattle -- an auspicious dawn featuring Mount Rainier on the horizon. I can only hope to take the occurrence as something positive.

Happy Slider Sunday!

The skyline of Seattle, Washington with the Interstate 5 (I-5) freeway cutting through downtown looking northwest.

Seattle, Washington, USA.

This is Elliott Bay Marina, located at Smith Cove, about two miles from downtown Seattle, and a short bike ride from my home.

This particular evening, the atmosphere was calm, and the breeze was light. Such conditions were advantageous because my hope was to avoid capturing the movement of the boats buoyed up at the marina in my long exposures, which would have resulted in some (less than subtle) motion blur.

Of course, the surface of the water revealed the beautiful truth -- a silent symphony of vibrations reflected on the bay.

Enjoy a view of the Seattle skyline on Christmas Day.

At first, the scene appeared to be fairly typical for winter, and not very dramatic. However, as the temperature rapidly continued to decline, the movement of the clouds caught my attention, but not for the reason you might expect.

The clouds not only seemed to decelerate, but they also traversed over the skyline at an oddly slow pace.

Creeping.

You can tell because I took several long exposures. This image was captured in 15 seconds. While you can see the effect of the exposure on the waters of Elliott Bay, the motion of the clouds appear to defy the length of time passing, temporarily suspended over the city.

Hovering.

Looming.

Coast trail at West Point, Discovery Park, Seattle Washington.

A wonderful guide and a perfect day.

This is a view of the Seattle skyline after a series of storms fiercely roiled above the city off and on throughout the day.

Seattle, in Spring, is one of those cities when almost every type of weather imaginable is listed -- and SERVED -- on the menu from hour to hour, or every 30 minutes. Take a sip of your drink as I set the scene for you.

You are figuratively sitting at the table, wholeheartedly curious to see what will be featured in the next course because Chef Mother Nature is bringing out her very best today: high winds and drizzle, some "shy-and-goodbye" sunshine, a feast of tempest teasers, more "peek-a-boo" sunshine, a feisty storm and sun combo with a side of rainbow delight, etc. Sometimes you want your taste buds to get accustomed to the new flavors, but often, you don't have time because the next meal has just been prepared for your consumption. The Chef does not care if you haven't had time to acclimate. This is her show.

You get the picture...well, you literally are about to now!

After all the different meals, you are stuffed. However, though your hunger has been overwhelmingly satiated, and your palate has experienced a multitude of spices and seasonings, you know you need to end the meal with an appetizing, gooey, decadent dessert. (Plus, you know it's coming after that fiesta of diverse foods). On this day, we were treated to an intriguing mix of orange and peach skies with smooth breezes above the bay to close the day. Scrumptious, sweet, and delicious, yes?

Alas, I hope you enjoyed our dessert. I know I did.

Smoke from nine different wildfires in Washington State shroud Elliott Bay and the Seattle Great Wheel. On 20 Oct 2022, Seattle had the worst air quality of any city in the world.

I hope you aren't too tired of this view yet, but I really wanted to post the color version of "The Dark City" (or "Supersized", sans moon). I really like both versions equally.

And just for the record, I fixed the white balance AND desaturated the blue channel significantly on this, so I didn't do anything to amp up the blue here. Also, for these shots, I employed a manual focusing trick that Aaron taught me on the Oregon coast workshop, which I'm finding super useful for getting better clarity and sharpness SOOC. I don't think it's a big secret, but if you want to know the trick, you'll have to take a workshop from him. Or I'll let him share it. :)

Oh, and still slowly catching up with everyone...

Back to Alki with a real, non-ghetto tripod this time. Nothing too terribly exciting about this, just a simple, clean shot of Seattle. Similar to my last one from here, but this time with two, count 'em two, bundles of pilings.

Deuteronomy 13:13-16

New International Version

13 that troublemakers have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods you have not known), 14 then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, 15 you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. You must destroy it completely, both its people and its livestock. 16 You are to gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. That town is to remain a ruin forever, never to be rebuilt,

While boating last spring, we stopped at Bell Harbor in Seattle. On our way out into Puget Sound, we passed these grain towers - of course, making me think of Patti - Jayhawk Explorer! We were too far away in hazy early morning light for me to get a good shot. So I did what I always do with my less than crisp and dull-colored photos. I waited for Sliders Sunday! I used JixiPix Spektrel for the lined effect and pixlrexpress for the toning (see tags). Hope everyone has a good week.
