Foundation Miro Barcelona Catalonia Spain The Joan Miró Foundation is located in the city of Barcelona and has some of the most representative works of this Spanish painter . It contains more than 10,000 pieces including paintings, sculptures, tapestries, drawings and sketches.History The idea of creating the foundation was born in 1968 by Joan Miró himself , who wanted to make it an element that allowed to know the trends of contemporary art. In addition, he wished to ensure that his works would always be available to the general public. It was officially constituted in 1975 and its patronage was composed by members chosen by Miro himself. At present, various public administrations are also part of the patronage. Thanks to donations from the artist and individuals, the foundation has become a center of reference on the painter, with the largest collection of his works worldwide. The foundation was inaugurated on October of June of 1975 , located in the mountain of Montjuic , on a building site architect Josep Lluís Sert , a personal friend of the painter. Sert conceived it as an open space, with large terraces and interior courtyards that allowed a proper circulation of visitors to the museum. The building was expanded in 1986 to accommodate the library and auditorium.Collection The collection of the gallery allows you to travel through the artistic life of Miró, from his first sketches to the large paintings that characterize the last stage of his life. The permanent exhibition is organized in nine different spaces, each dedicated to a part of the art of Miró. There are spaces dedicated to ceramics, tapestries, sculpture or painting. In addition, the foundation has a space, called Espai 13 , dedicated especially to promote the work of young artists who experiment with art. There are also temporary exhibitions of works by other painters. In addition, the foundation makes traveling exhibitions to publicize the work of the Catalan artist
