My computer wasn't fast enough and didn't have enough RAM to run Nikon NX very well. It's largely the fault of NX, but this program is reputed to run well with enough processing power and RAM -- so that day recently that the local Fry's electronics published enough loss-leaders at once to build a sufficient computer, I went 'All-In'. I'm not entirely disappointed. (That's geek talk for it works well, I recommend it if the price is low enough!)
M2A-VM + AMD Core2 A64 + 4GB RAM
This should run a few applications and it was dirt cheap! So inexpensive that I couldn't resist. The prices have come way down on RAM and CPU's; the motherboard is like 6x behind the edge, but it has integrated graphics, with output for dual monitors, including 1 VGA and 1 DVI built right on board, with at least 4 internal PCIe buses, allowing for up to 256MB shared video ram. Hey, it works, what're ya gonna do?
The dual-core 4400+ (slow, I know...) AMD cpu has two independent L1 and L2 caches on board, and dual 64 bit processors ready to run multithreaded operating systems and applications at rates magically faster -- than my last setup, anyway.
The board supports up to 8GB of RAM in 4 slots (4 x 2 GB modules). Currently using 2 x 2GB DDR2-6400 (800Mhz) modules with better than middling timings (peak bandwidth for this spec allows data transfers up to 12.8 GBytes per second).
My main complaint is only 1 PATA port (2 x IDE devices). But the M2A-VM compensates with 10 USB 2.2 and 4 SATA 3GB/s ports. The SATA features RAID 0, 1, 10 if you like. There are only 2 PCI slots, and 1 @ of PCIe 16 and PCIe 1 slots. Built in Gb LAN port which downshifts to 100Mb and 10Mb LAN automatically.
I did not extensively research the CPU cooler, but it has passive heat-pipes, a large copper core, and comes with a dead-quiet fan. In fact, we've gone from a standing 80+ dBa (estimated) to somewhere in the 30's!! This results from 3 relative to very quiet 120mm ball bearing fans.
Power supply is an Antec 550w TruePower Trio, and I've been very impressed with its performance and safety features so far. It's quiet. Sooo quiet. And it had a $40.00 instant rebate! ("We're giving them away!")

I don't think I have ever seen a telephone booth like this. I have only ever seen them in movies. There is an actual phone that works in there. It is quite fitting that this is on the drive where lots of old fashioned things can be found.
New research suggests that ’likes’ and clicking links online are not enough to ensure long-term sales. Brands need to get people typing comments and more involved with content if they are to turn them into actual customers.The consumers who most actively use branded social media content are the ones most likely to maintain a relationship with those brands in future, claims new research for Marketing Week.
Seventy-eight per cent of people visiting and interacting with a brand’s Facebook page are likely to continue the relationship by visiting its website or considering it for purchase. Just thirty-four per cent of the people who say they are unlikely to interact with a brand’s social media presence on Facebook are likely to do the same.With the role of social media under question, Starcom MediaVest Group’s strategic development director Jim Kite explains: “The deeper the interaction with social media, the greater the likelihood of moving the consumer from enquiry to brand preference.”
The research draws on a study using a representative sample of 6,000 regular Facebook, YouTube and Twitter users in June. They were asked to spend several minutes interacting with content on brands’ Facebook and YouTube pages in product categories where they had already registered an interest. Respondents were asked to participate in activities requiring a range of involvement, from watching videos, posting comments, playing games and following brands on Twitter or tweeting about them.
The study claims that it is not just being aware of brands on social media platforms that leads people to continue that relationship or buy goods. It is the level of interaction or “doing something” with branded content that has a bearing.

Our workshop group build a sci-fi electronic drone instrument whose pitch and tone oscillation can be controlled by light, dials and even touch. Final outcome is a six oscillator synth from scratch under the instruction of artist, Sam Underwood.
A nice compact camera that takes standard Nikon lenses. This is another camera left to me by a close friend. Unfortunately, the flash connection in the shoe doesn't seem to work, but it's a great camera for shooting in natural light. The original lens I think was an f2. it had an unfortunate accident involving water, and I picked up this faster lens at a pawn shop in North Platte for about $20. I often used this camera with my better Nikon lenses.
