"Hullo everyone. Do you know what? On Saturday 18th of May it is the Federal Election in Australia.
I've decided to stand as a candidate in my constituency. Daddy's partner tells me that it's an electorate in Australia, but it's still a constituency to Daddy and me!
I'm standing for the Teddy Bear Party. We stand for the following:
- Free hugs for everyone (big little bear hugs or otherwise)
- Kisses for all (snuffly ones preferably)
- Fixing grumbly tummies (that was Scout's addition)
- Two birthdays for everyone, every year
All these things will make people happier, and a happier populace will make a happier country, and a happy country will make a happy planet!
So vote 1. for Paddy as PM!"
In all seriousness, no matter what party you feel is best placed to govern this country, if you are an Australian voter and have not voted yet, cast a considered vote on Saturday, and remember that your vote is important - even if sometimes you don't think it is.
My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his Macintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his Macintosh.
He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
Cabbage is Paddy's Pug Dog. He was a gift to Paddy from a friend who also likes Pugs. He is fiercely loyal to Paddy and Scout, but seldom stays around long enough to have his picture taken, as there are always new adventures to sniff out.
Scout is a recent addition to our little family. He was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

Modi shah kee kareebi

Here's something you don't often see - this is me casting my vote in complete darkness.
Such is the current madness that we're having a December election, which nobody will tell you is a good idea.
That said, my polling station said they were heading for a record turnout over the last three years. To be honest, in Tuebrook and Stoneycroft Ward that's a very low bar indeed.
As I type, it's 21:33. That means the polls are still open and we're in that glorious space where anything could happen. Then at ten, the exit polls are published and then the long wait for the actual results.
The truth is, now really is the best time. Come what way, I just can't see any good outcome in this election, and I'm not even sure what the least worst is.
Strange times...
