So disconcerting that we've chosen fear, exclusion, hate, and ignorance as our pathway forward.
I frankly have no patience or understanding with anyone who voted for Trump. You let fear rule your reason. For shame...

May our great country choose a candidate who doesn't marginalize and demean an entire group of people. May our country choose a candidate who doesn't bully and resort to misogyny. May our great country choose a candidate who believes in science and regulation that ensures the future of our entire planet.
With that said - Fuck Trump.
I'm with her.
What a week we had...what more can I say about the election that hasn't been said already? I took and worked on this picture the day after the election because I couldn't concentrate on anything else and I desperately needed some humor therapy. At this time I'm trying hard to keep things in perspective, have an open mind, think positive, and most of all, concentrate on what's really important in life...love, family, kindness and tolerance.
Even the cows are lined up listening intently......waiting for news of #Election2016
This photograph has been published in Issue 220 of Photography Week's online magazine.
I participated in the democratic process, but the election didn't turn out as I had hoped; as usual, big money squashed the regular folks (both locally and nationally). The results are very disappointing (locally) and frightening (nationally).

Today, I'm wearing purple, white, and gold for the women who made it possible for me to say: "I voted".
The Suffragists adopted those colors for their banners and flags.
From The National Women's Party's website: "Purple is the color of loyalty, constancy to purpose, unswerving steadfastness to a cause. White, the emblem of purity, symbolizes the quality of our purpose; and gold, the color of light and life, is as the torch that guides our purpose, pure and unswerving."
With the excitement of getting to the polls on Election Day many people will have a hard time keeping their feet on the ground, but astronauts who vote literally have to strap themselves down so they don’t float away.
Astronauts orbit the Earth at 17,000 miles per hour, but thanks to a bill passed by Texas legislatures in 1997 that put in place technical voting procedure for astronauts – nearly all of whom live in Texas – they also have the ability to vote from space!
For astronauts, the voting process starts a year before launch, when astronauts are able to select which elections (local/state/federal) that they want to participate in while in space. Then, six months before the election, astronauts are provided with a standard form: the “Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Request – Federal Post Card Application.”
‘Space voting’ was first used the same year it was implemented in 1997. NASA astronaut David Wolf became the first American to vote in space while on the Russian Mir Space Station. Current space station resident astronaut Shane Kimbrough is the most recent astronaut to take advantage of the opportunity.
While astronauts don’t have to wait in line for his ballot like the rest of us, there is one disadvantage to voting in space: they miss out on the highly coveted “I Voted” sticker.
I am still scratching my head at this entire election we just went through… I am just glad it is over. To be honest I think we were screwed with Hillary as a candidate, we were more screwed with Trump as a candidate, and in the end America lost out and is totally screwed.
I have no intention of starting a political debate with this post. I think the things that one candidate had as an opportunity, be it greed, corruption, or whatever was being accused and thrown out- the other candidate had the exact amount of instances. It was a long debate of the pot calling the kettle black on both sides.
In the end, I think Trump based his campaign on that of exclusion and hate- just my perspective. And when you lean on fear mongering to gain attention and vote, that’s just not how I want to live believing things like that.

Do you know how hard it is to find one of these stickers on anything these days? Of course you do! It's even harder to find one that says Made in Canada. I make a point of trying to buy things that are labelled Made In USA or Made in Canada. If you can manage to find such products, I can assure you they are of much, much better quality than their counterparts made elsewhere. And, I can personally give you example upon example!
For years now, long before this election, I've been totally amazed that US citizens have allowed their elected representatives to let their steel mills, auto factories, and other manufacturing industries move out of the country. Quite a few tourists from the US pass through this province during the summer and if I have occasion to speak to any of them, I always ask them to explain it to me. Most that I've spoken to have difficulty doing that. Don't like it, but can't really explain why the electorate didn't do anything about it.
Well, now, you have a President Elect that has at least brought the problem to the forefront... and that, of course is always the first step ... and has promised to do something about it. ( And, as far as his cabinet is concerned, I hope he picks Trey Gowdy as his Attorney General]
I, for one, hope he does do something about it. If I were American, I would definitely have voted for him. And even though, I'm not ... around 4:30 AM local time this morning after watching the results all night, I was wishing I had an American flag. If I had had one, I would definitely have gone out and run it up the flagpole on my front lawn.
A couple of other things to note: From as far back as I can remember, the media has never been biased, never took one side or the other, was always fair and impartial. That is certainly not so anymore. And that is definitely too bad. CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX have lost all credibility! They are now trying to be king makers ... or in this case, I guess I should say queen maker ... instead of just reporting the news and not trying to make it. And last night they were so, so surprised that that it didn't go their way. Couldn't figure out why it didn't. Well, I for one, was delighted about that!
And to all those pathetic second rate celebrities that threatened to move to Canada if Trump won, let me say this: You need to get behind your new president and give him your support when he tries to make America the manufacturing giant it once was. Instead of running away. And we all know you aren't going to run away, anyway. It's the country that made you what you are. You're all talk, no action. And you know what? Are you sure Canada wants you? I, for one, don't! For me, loyalty is one of the most important qualities you can have. And if you run away, or try to run away, you certainly don't have it! [ Which reminds me of the former point ... I watched the results on ABC last night. Do you know George Stephanopoulos gave $75,000 to the Clinton campaign. He can really be impartial now, can't he? His wife, by the way, said they will be moving to Australia if Trump won. How much would you bet that happens? Would loved to have been able to ask him as the results came in last night if he had his airline ticket bought yet :-) ]
And then there's others like Robert de Niro. I don't think he threatened to move to Canada, but he certainly disgraced himself. He's a has been ... consigned to acting in crap like Dirty Grandpa. And he should know better! Remember when he made The Deer Hunter back in 1978? Got an Academy Award nomination for that one. A lot of steel mill towns in Ohio and Pennsylvania stood in for the fictitious town in that movie. Bet those towns were a lot more prosperous back then than they are now. Maybe he saw that? Maybe he should go back and look at them now? Maybe he should listen to the man who wants to do something about that. Meanwhile, what is he planning to do? Look for another B-movie script ... probably worse than Bad Grandpa?
By the way, if you think I don't know anything about American politics, let me assure you I definitely do! And, as far as this election is concerned, I've been keeping up with the developments almost daily for months now.

The Drumpf Truck came to town to protest Hillary Clinton's appearance. The condition of it is so deplorable it should definitely be illegal to be on the street.

A new portrait tribute of US Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton by British artist Stephen B. Whatley.
As a British citizen with great affection for the USA, he naturally can not vote in the US Election - so was determined to 'vote' with his artistic statement.
The expressionist painter set to work two days after the first Presidential debate, so impressed by Mrs Clinton's passionate, eloquent argument of conscience, delivered with strength, warmth and humour, in opposition to the Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Studying a series of recent photographs Whatley sought to capture on canvas both Hillary Clinton's beauty and presidential demeanour; and throughout, a positive reflection of the American spirit of hope.
In November 2008 Stephen B. Whatley painted a tribute to Barack Obama just days before the US Election which was published in TIME. His work is in private collections worldwide, including many states of the USA; and in public collections including BBC Heritage, The Royal Collection, London Transport Museum, Newman University & Westminster Cathedral. His 30 paintings commissioned by the Tower of London in 2000 are permanently reproduced throughout Tower Hill Underpass that leads to the Tower from Tower Hill Station, as a daily public art exhibit.

Super Tuesday, 2016
Brought my camera to caucus last night, figuring I'd see something interesting with the line (enthusiasm, interesting geometry or juxtaposition), get a photo with the kids under signs, or maybe folks arguing during a resolution. When I rounded the corner and saw the ballot box, it hit me. Took out my camera, focused, and click. Better than I could have planned or staged, the next guy in line took his turn to slip in his ballot. Perfect.
A few of my friends (old and new, from all walks of life) have asked those in their circles not to speak out to say we are ashamed. Sorry -- no.
I am ashamed.
I am ashamed of my country. I am ashamed that our collective, democratic voice has risen up as an outcry against people of color, people of non-Christian religions, LGBTQ families, environmental protections, and women's autonomy.
I am ashamed that our collective power now stands behind a man so racist he wishes to create a barricade between us and a non-white nation. A man who conflates black people with criminality in a time when their lives are deeply at risk in an onslaught of near-daily police shootings. I am ashamed that our nation will now be led by a man championed by the KKK, an organization which continues to terrorize, threaten, and kill members of our communities.
I am ashamed of the harm we are doing for people of low income and people with disabilities, who rely on our health care system to ensure that they have access to the medical care they need to survive.
I am shocked and hurt that we have put our collective support behind a man who wishes to take away my rights as a queer person, who threatens to revoke my right to marry, my right to have and protect a family.
I am deeply, profoundly ashamed that we have invited a man who openly brags about committing sexual assault to be the leader of our country. We have stepped beyond sexism. When our leader boasts about such action, he reframes it as a point of pride. By electing him, we are not merely condoning rape and sexual assault -- we are promoting it.
This is our president. The person children strive to be when they grow up.
Yes, I am deeply, painfully ashamed.
You should be too.
I am ashamed to be a white women, when the records show that women like me all over the country chose to set aside our endangerment and marginalization, shrugging off attitudes and actions that are destructive and outright violent.
I am ashamed to see that our value system favors ego and anger, fame and notoriety. We were confronted with a choice between a woman with decades of experience in policy, government, and international relations, revered by her colleagues and constituents, or a man with literally no experience in elected office or government, famed for volatility, malpractice, and abuse. I am ashamed --I am appalled-- that we chose a reality TV monster over a seasoned, proven professional.
And yes, I am ashamed to see us reinforce the message that experienced women are less qualified than men with no experience at all.
I am baffled that in considering the office of our presidency, we created a conversation about likability rather than experience, aptitude, and success. I am ashamed that the conversation started, and I am ashamed that it has continued.
And, most shamefully, I am guilty for my own part in this election. Guilty that I did not speak out sooner, speak out louder. That I chose not to make waves, not to argue with those who claimed Clinton and Trump are interchangeable. As they claimed that politics are private. They are not. They affect us all. The choices we make will elevate our neighbors, or endanger them.
So I am astounded by our collective apathy, by the number of Americans who shrugged their shoulders at the marginalized, terrified people who are directly endangered by Trump's threats, and his newly empowered followers.
I am ashamed to see how many Americans chose not to vote.
We have an incredible system of government that allows individual people to raise their voices and stand up for their values. That allows us as a nation to raise our collective voice and declare what we stand for.
This week, we have witnessed our values laid out on stark contrast:
We have told immigrants that their incredible contributions are not valued.
We have told Muslims that they will always be terrorists in our eyes.
We have told women that their bodies are the property of powerful men.
We have told the LGBTQ community that they deserve a lesser life.
We have told children that we don't care about the world we leave for them.
And we have told black people that their lives do not matter.
I am ashamed. I am sick.
I am humiliated to be complicit.
And I really, deeply hope you are too. It's the only way we can move forward.
A photograph taken in Upstate New York on US Election morning, November 8, 2016…..hoping such sunlight of hope will return to the USA - that the Electoral College will vote today with sanity, conscience & care, for the USA & indeed world security. Peace!
