The public awareness campaign for the forthcoming elections is continuing in Jalalabad in Nangarhar province and in the surrounding districts.

One man carrying out the huge awareness programme is Mohammad Gharanay, 54, one of the Civic Educators of the Independent Election Commission.

At one of his recent presentations he met more than 400 prisoners at Nangarhar prison.

“I am satisfied with my work because many of our people really need information on the election. On the other hand I meet different peoples with different political views which help me to better know our society,” said Mr Mohammad Gharany.

From colleagues Mr Gharanay receives much praise.

“He organized more than thirty public gatherings in the different parts of Jalalabad city, such as markets, governmental and non-governmental organizations’ offices, parks, a sports stadium and more,” said Ruhullah Mumand a Civic Educator Officer.

Sahil is one of the prisoners who participated at the prison outreach session.

“I was not sure that the Independent Election Commission will give a chance to prisoners to participate in the election but today’s programme assured us that we, like other Afghans, may participate in the presidential and provincial council elections,” said Mr Sahil.

“The members of parliament and provincial councils should have an advanced university degree and experience in social work with the community, so that they can perform their job successfully,” added Sahil.

A total of 100 civic educators organized into 50 groups, including female groups, are working in Nangarhar province.

There are eight groups in Jalalabad city and 42 groups in the 22 districts.

According to Abdullah Safar, the Administration and Finance Assistant for the Independent Election Commission in Nangarhar, the civic education process will take place in two steps – general information on the election (which is already going on) – and technical information on the voting process and casting ballot papers which is planned to be launched in the run up to the Election Day.

Today's image is just a simple reminder that it's election day. Try to get out and vote!

It's 11:30. I can't sleep. Obama has to win. What can I possibly do to help that happen? I'm in Idaho. I've already voted. I've distributed Obama literature. I've painted "Yes We Can" on two of our vehicles. I've knitted my son an Obama sweater. The election is tomorrow. How do we know it won't be stolen? He has to win. I will bake a cake tomorrow. I'm going to wear my Wonder Woman underoos and feel powerful.

Pure euphoria was felt around the globe as the results of the 2008 Presidential elections were announced. History was made tonight while tears of joy were collectively shed by everyone.

Xavier and I joined friends at several places to wish for the best outcome... and we got it! We hung out at rowdy noize club DeRailed and never left there... DJ DaemonChadeau has a way of grabbing you by the throat in a non-stop industrial noize assault.

DeRailed was the perfect place for the American spirit. Our country was born from rebels... noisy loud rebels who refused to bend to the mother country.

The party was intense as American avies and Europeans joined together to root for change.

Earlier, I went to see old friends at Divaz and hung out there to see a rare set by DJxHalloween, the best dj on the grid. Many there were speaking about the politics and all were hoping for a Obama victory.

I got a tp from DJ Zap Hax over at R.A.R.E. and he was doing an impromptu party celebrating the election day madness. Zap never fails to create the perfect sets, and it was so grand to be there with the Europeans.

I was exhausted from a lack of sleep and excitement, so Xavi and I headed to the beach to relax for a while. We reflected on American politics, the monumental task that faces Obama, and the almost forgotten war.

We both hope that people from all affiliations will come together to work for a better and stronger America. God bless us and let us all hope for a better future for our family, friends and country. Yes, we can! Peace and Love to all!

The parliamentary elections will be held on 17 April 2011, with advance voting between 6 and 12 April. In the elections, 200 Members of Parliament are elected for a four-year term.

I'd like to cast my vote in advance as we'll be having a birthday party on the election day, but I'm having a hard time deciding between two candidates.

Update .... 19/02/2013

.... Been having a trip down memory lane with this one today after seeing it appear in my stats and oh how much has changed. Somethings are worlds apart these days one being i have now quit smoking and i'm currently vapping mint chocolate so i've succeeded in my dream of a chocy fag.

The biggest difference though is my political-ness. The shock and horror of the voting mess and following betrayal of Lib Dem voters by Nick Clegg got me for the 1st time looking up all the parties and reading up on there history. This lead to me becoming keenly interested in politics and i've joined the Labour party as a result, Really after looking into all the parties they where more suited to my views all along and i love how the party is developing.

Party leader Geert Wilders and his Freedom Party started their campaign for the March 15 Dutch elections.
