Today’s millennial workforce is overwhelmed, distracted, stressed out and disengaged more than ever. And this younger generation wants to have a complete control over what they learn, how they learn and when they learn, provided the learning is completely relevant. Given their low attention spans and heavy distractions, long and boring content (aka information dump) makes no more sense in the present context. So it’s time to design eLearning with a more holistic learner-centered approach, and that’s what we call “Microlearning” (micro-learning or micro learning). It is an ideal eLearning solution for corporate learning environment that supports blended learning / mobile learning strategy / formal training.

In my intervention I stressed the importance of the design and methodology rather than the tools/technology to be used in e-Learning. Experimentation is always welcome but we need to keep in mind the characteristics and needs of our target and the learning objectives of our course. Skilled human resources are also the key of successful and meaningful interactions of any learning event, and for e-learning courses this is even more important: skilled moderators are important vehicles for facilitating the knowledge- sharing process.
During the discussion we also covered the integration of social media in e-Learning. Again it is a matter of creating a value for meaningful interaction and using key human resources: adding a Facebook page does not guarantee we will have followers and rich conversations. We need to have a clear purpose and place somebody that not only is familiar with the technology per se but with the topic area we are addressing, the profile of our target...
