The first encounter of Art nouveau for many Paris travelers takes place at the curvaceous steel entrances to the Metro stations. The signs and the actual typeface of the word "Métropolitain" were created by Hector Guimard- a name synonymous with Art nouveau. These entrances are legend in the city and there aren't too many left. At one point during construction, Guimard was fired because the city deemed his salary to be excessive.
Xinzhu, a small city south of Taipei, has a lot of bakeries. I was thoroughly impressed to see this window display, but I didn't sample any of this shop's macaroons.
The beacon at the top of the Eiffel Tower sends out two light beams that apparently can be seen from about 80km away.
