Pinocchio is a story about a wooden doll that wants to become a real boy and gets wiser by damage and shame.
In the Efteling it is the fifth representation on the route in the Sprookjesbos, between Roodkapje and the Rode Schoentjes. Via the Soldatenpoort it is the first fairytale on the right. It opened on 24 March 2016 as the 29th fairy tale in the forest. The depiction consists of the workshop of Geppetto, the Fox and the Cat, emerging from a barrel, and a pond where Pinocchio, along with his father, can be found in the mouth of a huge monster fish. The Italian-inspired fairy tale was designed by Robert-Jaap Jansen, who previously designed Vrouw Holle, and Alessio Castellani, previously responsible for Efteling media productions and even Italian. Pinocchio was built for an amount of € 2 million on the spot where previously In the North Pole and Captain Gijs stood. The latter was moved to the Ruigrijk.

Bron Wikipedia

Spookslot 08/03/2022 17h07
As long as it is possible we have to enjoy the 44 year old Spookslot before it will be demolished. Never took a proper picture from the entrance and tower.
After the 2022 Summer period, the attraction from 1978 will be permanently closed and demolished. The Efteling will announce this on January 24. According to general manager Fons Jurgens, the haunted castle is due for replacement after 44 years.
"The Spookslot was, if we are very honest, perhaps ten years ago no longer of this time," he says in conversation with the Brabants Dagblad. That is why a new attraction will take its place, which will cost 25 million euros.
Efteling does not want to say anything about the attraction type yet, except that it will be a covered addition with a theoretical capacity of 1250 people per hour.
The Spookslot was the first major Efteling attraction designed by the late creative director Ton van de Ven. Later he was also at the helm of, for example, Fata Morgana (1986), het Volk van Laaf (1990), Droomvlucht (1993), Villa Volta (1996) and Vogel Rok (1998).
Spookslot
The Haunted Castle (Dutch: Spookslot) is a haunted attraction in the Efteling in the Netherlands. It was designed by Ton van de Ven and was the first attraction built outside the Fairy Tale Forest.
On July 24, 1976 the announcement on the making of the world's biggest haunted castle appeared in Brabant's daily newspaper, Het Brabants Dagblad. The article mentions that the castle would be built between the Fairy Tale Forest and the rowing and canoeing pond. This was a strategic choice, because the location of the attraction would attract visitors to the normally ‘forgotten’ southern part of the park.
The main reason for this mega-attraction was declining numbers of visitors at Efteling. Aiming for a more general public, with an attraction that didn’t depend on the weather conditions, Efteling authorized their young designer Van de Ven to start designing the ride.
Van de Ven designed the castle as a walk-through attraction and, in the style of Anton Pieck, the castle was designed to look old and decayed. It is meant to look as though it was once beautiful and majestic, but is now hahttps://www.flickr.com/photos/meteorry/unted and in ruins and somewhat romantic.
The construction took about 18 months and the castle was officially opened May 10, 1978.
On May 12 a television special was broadcast with Kate Bush singing in and around the castle. She had a big hit around the globe with "Wuthering Heights" at the time.
The waiting hall is a dimly-lit area, with several spooky items, of which an oriental ghost with a crystal looking glass is the most notable. The glass uses the pepper's ghost technique to show a beautiful woman turning into a skull. In the tower area a hairy arm stretches from the roof, holding a big chandelier. Once in a while one might have a glimpse of three horrible batlike creatures, leering down at the visitors.
Upon entering the main attraction hall, a number of scary statues and scenes prepare the audience for the main course: a look into the inner court, graveyard, and the ruins of a monastery at night. When the clock strikes twelve, a violin (also a pepper's ghost effect) starts playing the Danse Macabre of Saint-Saëns and the graveyard comes to life and a number of skeletons and ghosts are visible. One tombstone is labeled in Latin "Puella Innocenta" (innocent girl). The years on her stone (in Roman numbering) reveal that she has been living backwards in time, however it is possible that it is merely a mistake of the artist who made the stone. There is also a tombstone inside the mansion with the name "Den Hegarty", an Irish rock singer who happened to be on the radio when the stone was made. Also, it is said that the main show's appearance was influenced by the 1971 horror film "Tombs of the Blind Dead".
The maintheme of the show is a shortened version of the Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns. The movements of the animatronics are synchronized with the music; the violin that opens and closes the main part of the show demonstrates this. The show itself has been adapted four times. During the opening season in 1978 the show lasted about 12 minutes. Three months later it was cut back to 8 minutes. In 1987 the show was renewed and in 1989 the final version was completed.

Shots made at the Winter Efteling 2011
I went to the winter efteling with my girl, her brother and her parents and tried to make some pictures to see this theme park in a new way. The park had loads of attractions for every age and in the winterseason the park is lit with all kinds of lights.
This is a shot of the Half Moon (Halve Maen), a ship swing (schommelschip).
The Efteling is the largest theme park in the Netherlands, and as it opened in 1952, it is one of the oldest theme parks in the world. Efteling is located in the town of Kaatsheuvel, in the municipality of Loon op Zand, and has received over 100 million visitors.
Originally the park catered towards children with a fairy tale theme. In over fifty years the park has evolved from a nature park with playground and a Fairy Tale Forest, into a full-sized theme park. It is twice as large as the original Disneyland park in California and predates it by three years. Nowadays, Efteling caters to both children and adults with its cultural, romantic and nostalgic themes and its variety of amusement rides.

The entire area around the entrance to the Efteling will be completely changed. Here we are looking to the left of the Huis van de Vijf Zintuigen (House with the Five Senses) and here will be a huge hotel in the year 2024. In early 2022, work has started on breaking up the parking lot and preparing the area for construction. As a result, the Huis van de Vijf Zintuigen (House with the Five Senses) is temporarily not usable as an entrance and visitors are diverted. I will try to capture these changes in De Efteling when possible.

In 1950, Efteling Nature Park Foundation (Stichting Natuurpark de Efteling) was founded by the mayor of Loon op Zand, R.J. van der Heijden, filmmaker Peter Reijnders, and designer artist Anton Pieck (1895-1987). The foundation was named after the 16th-century farm Ersteling.
Efteling officially opened on May 31, 1952,[2] when the Fairy Tale Forest (het Sprookjesbos), designed by the famous Dutch illustrator Anton Pieck, was opened to the public. Initially, the Fairy Tale Forest was home to some ten different fairy tales, all of them brought to life using original drawings by Anton Pieck alongside ingenious mechanics and lighting and sound effects designed by the Dutch filmmaker Peter Reijnders. The life-size dioramas, displayed together in an atmospheric forest, were an enormous success. In 1952 alone, Efteling welcomed 240,000 visitors.[3]
Since 1978, the park has been expanded and grown to become one of the most popular theme parks in the world. The Efteling Resort now offers the original theme park, a hotel, a theatre, a golf course, and a holiday village. It is still owned by the Efteling Nature Park Foundation.
The Dutch climate and the integral role of natural greenery in the park's appearance and theme once prevented it from remaining open year-round. Efteling's operating season was once limited to April - October, but the park's management, in order to make the park more profitable, began experimenting with 'Winter Efteling' in 1999 (see index below for attractions closed during "Winter Efteling"Niet in de Winter Efteling.gif). The seasonal event, which features holiday displays and Christmas lights, has grown increasingly popular in the 2000s and draws thousands of visitors annually.[4]
In 2010, Efteling announced plans to remain open year round. From November through approximately February, the 'Winter Efteling' theme remains in place. However, some of the regular rides are either closed (like Wild Water Ride Piraña) or temporarily closed for maintenance (like The Flying Dutchman) during this period.
Gisela Williams, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, wrote a review of the park in early 2014.[5] Williams praised Efteling but criticized an attraction called Monsieur Cannibale for containing racist depictions of Africans.[6] Her review was later mentioned in De Telegraaf, a daily newspaper in the Netherlands, and drew several angry comments from its readership. Williams also received her first death threat for her comments about the controversial attraction.[

The entire area around the entrance to the Efteling will be completely changed. Left of the Huis van de Vijf Zintuigen (House with the Five Senses) is a temporary entrance created for scanning the covid pass and the tickets that can only be reserved in advance. In April the main entrance in the Huis van de Vijf Zintuigen (House with the Five Senses) will be accessible again. But for two years this area will be a construction site.
I will try to capture these changes in De Efteling when possible.

Aquanura 06/07/2018 22h52
Aquanura is a play of light and water. A dance, a spectacle, a symphony and a great show which is best seen right after sunset. And because this is captured just before eleven in the evening that means that is is high Summer.
Aquanura
Aquanura is the name of a fountain system in the Efteling theme park in the Netherlands. The premiere took place on 31 May 2012 on the park's 60th anniversary, and it opened to the public the following day. The fountain was developed by WET Design, Efteling and Tebodin Consultants & Engineers. The fountain is the largest in Europe and the third largest in the world, after The Dubai Fountain and the Fountains of Bellagio] though it could better be compared as a smaller version of Disney's World of Color.
The show falls within the scope of the Frog King theme. As such, 4 large frog replicas are placed in the pond.
Aquanura has a total of 200 fountains, subdivided in 9 types, each with its own reach and effect. 4 of the types are custom designed and built for this project, as are the light effects. 800 lamps will be placed in the pond, and 29 light- and audio posts are placed around the pond, with Moving heads on top, all in support of the water show. The super shooters reach a height of 45 meters, well under their listed capacity.
The whole project was constructed by Water Entertainment Technologies (WET), Tebodin Netherlands B.V., Heijmans NV, Kuijpers Piping & Procestechniek, Hoppenbrouwers Elektrotechniek B.V. and Primagaz Nederland B.V. at a total cost of € 17.000.000. The watershow can normally be seen at closing time of the park, extra shows are scheduled on busy days and days with extended opening hours. Since the opening of the original Aquanura, the symphony has changed. It has been remade with a couple of new song added.
Aquanura is located in the Rowing Pond, thus replacing it, next to the Fata Morgana in the themed area Differ Realm.
