52 Weeks: The 2025 Edition
Bracken Cave Bats
Bracken Cave is special because it's home to the world's largest bat colony, with over 15 million Mexican free-tailed bats. It's a maternity colony, meaning it's where these bats give birth and raise their young.
The nightly emergence of the bat colony is a unique and awe-inspiring spectacle, with bats swirling out of the cave in a vortex-like formation, often called a "batnado".

This is a macro detail from a red abalone shell I inherited from my great grandfather, Ken Ford. I believe he collected it in California when his father, a plumber from Ontario, worked on the construction of large hotel in San Francisco in the 1890s, not sure about the date.
For 30 years I've used the shell as a soap dish wherever I've lived. Unfortunately this abuse has marred the mother-of-pearl a bit, though it's still beautiful. I've decided to retire it from that dirty job.
Thank you to everyone who visits, faves, and comments.

Haven't been doing very well with my 52 wks project thus far, but I was immediately inspired and motivated by this theme! :)

Pocaterra Ridge is a popular destination, especially in late September when the Subalpine Larch trees are at their prime fall display. If possible, going on a weekday rather than on a weekend may reduce the odds of finding yourself in a sort of conga line.
I am the author of "Ridgewalks in the Canadian Rockies, second edition" and "Kananaskis Country Colours" -- for more info on the books and to order, please see michaelwpotter.ca/books-by-mike-potter/
Seeing a Lexus LFA Nuerburgring Edition during the Ferrari Racing Days at the Hockenheimring wasn't exactly what I expected.
What makes the Black-capped Vireo so special? It’s limited range makes it highly sought after in the birding community. People travel from all over the world to catch a glimpse of this magnificent bird during breeding season. It’s range is limited to West Texas north to just over the Oklahoma state line spending winters in Southwest Mexico - a short migration when compared to many other species. A solid black helmet and white spectacles make identification is easy. It is not difficult to find if you go to the right place. South Llano River State Park is an excellent location to find this bird.
The owner decided to replace the Italian flag on his 16M with the Bavarian flag which actually makes this a one-off Ferrari.
I'm totally in love with the 16M, especially because I had a ride in this particular car two years ago. Hitting 8500 rpm while accelerating in a tunnel on the German autobahn with the roof down is surely an automotive experience you will never forget.
Finally I've also made my way to facebook. Please make sure to check out my new page:
Made for a commission. Also testing out the camera on my phone (conveniently timed, considering my actual camera's battery was dead).
A version of Scavenge that focuses more on using the pieces it finds laying around the wasteland.

I was actually driving to a cemetery this evening for a shot. It had been raining all day and around 7pm the sun came out. I saw this empty parking lot with gigantic puddles and stopped to try a shot instead of driving to the cemetery. I felt like Rodney as I posed my umbrella and circled it contorting myself trying to compose this shot. I wish I would have had a red or brightly colored umbrella in my car with me...
