Editing

Yes I take photos. It is something I do and to be honest, it makes me feel good. When you take photos (well for me at least) some editing is necessary. I offer you a bit of my process. I do not do any editing to my facial area as my lines and creases are me. Now if my lipstick gets on my teeth and that gets past quality control then yes I will go in and touch that up. Oh and I don't use any sort of face app either.

I offer you one photo presented 3 times. On the left is straight from the camera with no edits. The middle is from Photoshop using a jpg. The one on the right is a RAW file edited in Lightroom.

I have been going back and forth recently between Photoshop and Lightroom so I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on which image quality you gravitate towards. Thanks - Kim.

As some of you may or may not know, I have a book coming out next month, which I have been working on for nearly a year.

It is a pictorial history of the town I call home: Laguna Beach.

This book has been a lot of work and has taught me so much. I am very happy that I am nearing the finish line on this project.

The book and it's complimentary postcard book (15 images of the main booked were selected and made into a tear-out postcard book) will be out March 30, 2009. If you are in the L.A. or Orange County area I hope you can make it to one of my book signings! I will be doing a couple in Laguna Beach and possibly some surrounding areas at a later date.

Nothing particularly special in this edit, but I though you might like to see the development.

After the RAW adjustments I opened this up in Photoshop, here's what I've done:

Curves adjustment layer to the scene

Levels adjustment layer to pick out the details in the car - painted mask

Road has a B&W adjustment layer, and a Levels to boost the contrast

Plus cleaning and a touch of brush work

Shot with Natural light only plus a Circular Polariser.

This is a re-edit of my favourite photo I took back in March. It still pops up in my recent history with some new comments or fav's every now and then.. So now that I've been trying out layering textures, I thought I'd give this a photo a go. I used about 5 different textures.. probably a bit too many.. but I like how it turned out. And yep. It still makes me sad.
