Very old shot of mine that I can't wait to replicate with the new equipment, such a cool area right at the edge of a suburb
This is a rather temperate trail, an easier trek than some of the other trails leading into Desolation Wilderness. Adding to the attraction, there are several lakes along this northern California section of the Pacific Crest Trail, and lots of Desolation’s exposed granite raising their rocky cliffs above it all. Pretty good views for the relatively lighter effort expended. The trail can be taken on in various ways: a short jaunt just along Echo lakes gives a quick flavor of the area, or you can push into the heart of Desolation Wilderness.
