The Seventh Annual Small Business Summit is New York s premier event for small business owners. The event including networking with decision-makers, cutting edge seminars and exhibit booths featuring products & services to help small businesses succeed. Over 500 attendees learned from small business experts via presentations and panels.
On Thursday 14 September 2017, UCL Urban Laboratory and Folkestone Triennial 2017 launched the EDGE symposium series, exploring the concept of situated practice in contemporary art, architecture and urbanism. The events bring together practitioners and thinkers at three ‘edge’ locations connected by the High Speed 1 railway, which acts a geographical link and embodies ideas associated with community, connectivity and escapism.
In framing these events, we have considered 'edge' as: 'Where an area that is known or privileged meets another that is unknown or ignored; a point of balance between contrary or diverse phenomena; a place of connectivity and interaction.'
'Gateway' was a day of enquiry on Bloomsbury and King's Cross as 'edge' locations through a mix of artist masterclasses and an evening conference. The Gower Street campus of UCL was planned and built on the urban/rural edge of nineteenth-century London, a ‘learning’ gateway through which generations of students have now passed, and one which now runs up against the King’s Cross development, conceived as a mix of ‘knowledge’ and ‘transport’ gateways.

Edge is a performance piece, inspired by moons of the solar system and incorporating sounds from space. It combines the poetry of Katrina Porteous, the music by Peter Zinovieff and the planetarium visuals by Chris Hudson in the Centre for Life's planetarium.
It was performed as part of the British Science Festival in Newcastle this week and was recorded by Radio 4 for broadcast on December 15th as part of Poetry please.

Crews put the final edge girders into position on the I-70 bridge over the Mississippi River in July 2013.
Very pleasant underfoot although the weather is a bit dull and showery. According to my GPS i'm maintaining an average walking speed of 2.7mph, reasons to be cheerful as I target 2.5mph. This leg of the Centenary Way will take me from Sheriff Hutton to Coneyshorpe, but with 12 miles between them I wont make the full distance today.
