There's so much growing in our hedgerows so I'm beginning a study, capturing the rich diversity of colour, form and texture along the edges of the paths we walk every day.

The Peak District is stunningly beautiful especially at this time of year.

It should however technically be called the Edge district because there are more Edges than I can remember the names of (& I'm not talking about U2 guitarists here)

This particular Edge is called Froggat.

We'd rushed back from Wales on Tuesday night after spending 2 days walking up and down & along very very steep valleys because it was forecast to be a cold cloudless night which meant fog possibly.

Unfortunately the cloudy sky hadn't been paying proper attention to the BBC Weather forecast.

At the end of a dull rainy day we were rewarded with this spectacular moody sunset - we nearly gave up as it was raining on & off which meant continuously wiping the filters but I was hoping that the Sun would get through the small crack on the horizon & it finally did as it was told

If you visit the Waterfalls in Brecon, don't visit Padley Gorge straight afterwards.

Padley Gorge is beautiful in its own way but should be done first to get you in the mood

If like me you do it the wrong way round it would be like a keen hill walker spending a few days in Glencoe then moving to Skegness or the Norfolk Broads :)

Many thanks to everyone who took the trouble to view comment or fave :)

The view from Blackstone Edge near Littleborough as the weather finally begins to clear. The sense of wildness of the countryside, somewhat tempered by the numbers of wind turbines visible in this part of the South Pennines.

The green monkey can be found in a wide range of wooded habitats, ranging from very dry Sahel woodland to the edge of rainforests. It is also commonly seen in coastal regions, where known to feed on seashore foods such as crabs. It also takes a wide variety of other foods, including fruits and invertebrates.

The green monkey is found in West Africa from Senegal and The Gambia to the Volta River. It has been introduced to the Cape Verde islands off north-western Africa (islands of Santiago and Brava only) as early as the second half of the 16th century, and the West Indian islands of Saint Kitts, Nevis, Saint Martin, and Barbados, having been introduced in the late 17th century by slave ships coming from West Africa. A small colony descended from 20th century zoo escapees exists in Broward County, Florida.

As other members of the genus Chlorocebus, the green monkey is highly social and usually seen in groups. They usually live in groups of 7 up to 80 individuals. Within these groups, there is distinct social hierarchy evidenced by grooming behaviors and gender relationships. (Wikipedia)

There is a large colony of these attractive monkeys living around the Barbados Wildlife Refuge. Although wild, they are fed by the Refuge once a day. I think that this is the dominant male, as he kept an eye on the proceedings while sitting on a high spot in the area.

Myiarchus cephalotes

(Pale-edged flycatcher / Atrapamoscas montañero)

La Ceja, Colombia; 2.300 meters above sea level.

Pale-edged flycatcher is found in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, distributed throughout subtropical montane forest in the Andes.

This species is typically a bird of humid forests and is one of the few species of Myiarchus that is restricted entirely to humid montane forest.

EDGE OF TOMORROW

Dedicated to my Husband

We know we have

Lived on the edges

We know that this

Day might have to come

But don’t leave me yet

Not when there is still

Light in the day not yet gone

Don’t waste a moment

Don’t ever give time away

Not when you still

Have things left to say

You know I will always come here

Where the land sings like a song

Better than the silence

Of the dead halls of home

The light here shines

As if pure love is the air

Which nourishes your soul

And lessens the despair

I will reach through the barrier

And I will tear down the veil

On the edges of tomorrow

I will find you again

Seek the words in the wind

And capture the truth

Place them together

For all those that feel the same

So I am back after a difficult time, where the cold I thought I had because I got soaked in the rain, actually turned out to be Covid. I think I had been incubating this for a while before. Two days after me, my partner became very ill with it as well. We think we caught it at the same time, when we were out shopping. To jump forward a few weeks as we do not need to go over the experience of having Covid, many know to their cost what this is like, even if you have had the vaccinations, which we had, but suffice it to say here, my partner became very ill indeed, and because of my country’s depleted health system, and the age of my partner, I was starting to think I might have to make some difficult choices.

But thankfully, somehow, with me on twenty-four hour watch for three days and my partner’s resilience, and I think we can say here, that our love for each other, and the wish to remain with each other for as long as we can, helped my partner pull through. We are still recovering, but getting better each day.

I am talking about this because this work, and the work that follows it, is directly influenced by what we have both been through. The work that I have produced already on Flickr is what I experience, what you see on my Flickr page is the result of events in my life. It is a personal exploration, but it is one where others find a similar truth, a recognition, and the fact that I share these works with you means that I am telling others that I understand about the often emotional events in your life.

But this piece, I have dedicated to my husband, and to the God who gave us a little more time.

This image was taken at Glynde Church, East Sussex, UK, before we fell ill, at the beginning of October. This place, as many of you know, is one of my most favourite places to be on earth. It connects me with the divine. And I shall be returning to it as soon as I can.

When I was working on these new pieces, I listened to the music of U2. They are a personal favourite of mine, as I grew up with their music. Bono’s lyrics are poetic. Beautiful. He has always been an inspiration to me.

So with this work, I am pairing it with their track ‘Kite’, as this is what I was listening to when I was writing my poetry and concentrating on my image. This version is live, and sublime.

Crazy Tuesdy theme: edge

Thank you for your kind comments and favs. All are greatly appreciated. HCT 😄

Beucha church - Bergkirche Beucha.

The hill on which the church stands was continuously excavated from the 15th century onwards, with the consequence that the church now stands on the edge of a near vertical slope.

A four photo panorama looking out from Stanage Edge towards the Hope Valley after the low cloud had cleared this morning

I'm not sure if these loose rocks were placed precariously on the edges jutting out from the cliff by people, or if they ended up there naturally. Looks kind of cool though.

Another one from my favorite place on the California coast, Pescadero State beach, between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz, California.

Thank you for your previous comments. I hadn't planned to post anything, but felt inspired by Macro Monday's "Edge" theme today. Surely still feel edgy!

This is a long section of 'wallboard cap molding' from which one can hang framed art without punching extra holes in wood or wallboard.

The right side is 19.05mm in height. I bounced an SB800 speedlight against a semi-reflective warm surface. Balanced the molding on two glass salt and pepper shakers, hence a few bokeh balls.

Would this look edgier in B&W?

Stanage Edge is a vast gritstone edge that overlooks the village of Hathersage in the English Peak District..

Here is another image from my last shoot but facing the other direction. While my model was in the car warming up I motioned to her to bring out gloves for me. I had her throw them to me cause I was down on some rocks in shooting position. Very bad idea to throw lightweight things in the wind on the edge of a hill. Luckily I was able to retrieve the gloves with only a short scramble down the hill. We only shot for maybe 5 mins before my model squealed I can't take it anymore and ran to her coat. I can't express how grateful I am that she stuck with me to at least get a couple shots.
