On Sept. 13, the College of Education hosted a LASER Talk focusing on STEAM education. STEAM education is an approach to learning that uses science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.
This engaging forum organized by the Department of Art featured innovative leaders who shared their creative research through brief presentations and an interactive panel discussion. The evening began with a community share session, and ended with a beautiful reception.

Education majors will work one-on-one or in small groups to tutor children of varying levels of educational and physical ability. Participants will visit a local school and university to learn about the educational system in Jamaica.

The Augusta University College of Education, supported by a grant from the National Security Agency, hosted dozens of teachers from around Augusta's River Region for the 2017 GenCyber Teacher Camp. Teachers learned cyber security and computer coding essentials, and developed lesson plans to take back to their classrooms.

The Augusta University College of Education, in partnership with the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, hosted a 2D and 3D visual art show themed around the mandala. The opening reception was Dec. 1 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and hundreds of residents of Augusta's River Region visited the gallery at the local art school, enjoyed wine and hors d'oeuvres, and mingled with the artists and teachers who created the artwork in the show. Dr. Mari Carbo, founder and executive director of the National Reading Styles Institute, designated the Augusta University Literacy Center a National Exemplary Model. The designation comes after extensive review of the center’s efficacy rates. Speakers included: Dr. Paulette Harris, founder and director of the literacy center; Dr. Zach Kelehear, dean of the College of Education, which oversees the center; and Dr. Michelle Bryan, Chair of the Department of Advanced Studies and Innovation. Refreshments were served.
