K¹² International Academy Graduates! 2014

Dr. Mari Carbo, founder and executive director of the National Reading Styles Institute, designated the Augusta University Literacy Center a National Exemplary Model. The designation comes after extensive review of the center’s efficacy rates. Speakers included: Dr. Paulette Harris, founder and director of the literacy center; Dr. Zach Kelehear, dean of the College of Education, which oversees the center; and Dr. Michelle Bryan, Chair of the Department of Advanced Studies and Innovation. Refreshments were served.

The Augusta University College of Education, in partnership with the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, hosted a 2D and 3D visual art show themed around the mandala. The opening reception was Dec. 1 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and hundreds of residents of Augusta's River Region visited the gallery at the local art school, enjoyed wine and hors d'oeuvres, and mingled with the artists and teachers who created the artwork in the show. Join us for future events!

The College of Education recently launched a new student group for all education and pre-education majors called Teachers for Tomorrow. The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity to network with other students in the program, hear from and talk with advanced students about their experiences, speak personally with program faculty and advisors, and enjoy social and professional learning opportunities.

The college held the introductory meeting on Sept. 19 in the JSAC Coffeehouse, and the second on Nov. 15 at the home of College of Education Dean Zach Kelehear. Click here to enjoy photos from the events.

If you are interested in Teachers for Tomorrow, please contact Dr. Judi Wilson at jwilso24@augusta.edu or LeeAnn Walker at lewalker@augusta.edu.

Nestled on top of the picturesque hill of Smokeyvale, St. Andrew is a secret hideaway with beautiful homes used to house students, volunteers and interns. See breathtaking sceneries of the Blue Mountains to the East and a spectacular view of Kingston to the west. This community is a visual feast of ferns, flora and fauna. Everywhere you turn, there will be towering fruit trees, cool breeze and panoramic mountains. Education majors will work one-on-one or in small groups to tutor children of varying levels of educational and physical ability. Participants will visit a local school and university to learn about the educational system in Jamaica.
