It's Summer! So, we decided that it's time to bring back the vintage pin-up postcards and let the temperature rise. We have selected 30 sizzling vintage postcards of Hollywood actresses and an actor in a pin-up pose.
Handsome Ed Fury (1928-2023) was an American bodybuilder, model and actor. In 1960, the blond and beefy Fury became a film star in Italian Peplum films.
Ed Fury was born Rupert Edmund Holovchik in 1928 in Long Island, New York. An orphan, he matured into a very athletic teenager. While he wrestled in school and lifted weights, he didn't work toward the gargantuan build as some of his contemporaries, such as Steve Reeves and Reg Park, did. In the late 1940s, he moved to Los Angeles, California. Ed competed in numerous bodybuilding competitions, such as 'Mr. Muscle Beach' in 1951 and 1953, coming in third and second, respectively. The handsome blonde worked as a physique model for photographers Bob Mizer and Bruce Bellas a.k.a. Bruce of LA. He graced the covers of a number of physique culture magazines in the 1950s and 1960s. In addition, he appeared in several home movie loops distributed by Apollo and Mizer's male erotica studio, Athletic Model Guild (AMG), as 16mm and 8mm films in the 1950s. Fury began his acting career as a stage actor. Among other vehicles, he appeared on Broadway in the show 'Fanny'. He appeared in a handful of uncredited parts in films, and can be spotted in Abbott and Costello Go to Mars (1953), Athena (1954) with Debbie Reynolds and Steve Reeves, and Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954) with Victor Mature. He was also an Olympic team member in the classic musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (Howard Hawks, 1953) starring Marilyn Monroe en Jane Russell. Instead of diving into the pool over Jane Russell, his foot hit her, and she fell into the pool as he dived over her. The accident was kept in the final version of the film. He had his first credited role in the Western Raw (John Sherwood, 1956) starring Rory Calhoun and Yvonne De Carlo. He received his first bigger role in the low-budget adventure film The Wild Women of Wongo (James L. Wolcott, 1958). In 1958, Fury portrayed an Olympic hero in the television series Naked City starring James Franciscus. After this appearance, Fury found himself out of work for some time. He was arrested in October after being accused of stealing 50 spark plugs from Macy's and using them to assault a store detective who had pursued him after he left the store.
By 1960, Ed Fury moved to Italy. and became known for starring in several Peplum films, Italian "Sword-and-Sandal" films. Led by Steve Reeves, who starred in Le Fatiche di Ercole / Hercules (Pietro Francisci, 1958), the popularity of those films allowed Fury to star in films such as the Peplum comedy La regina delle Amazzoni / Colossus and the Amazon Queen (Vittorio Sala, 1960) with Rod Taylor and Dorian Gray, Le sette sfide / The Seven Revenges (Primo Zeglio, 1961) with Elaine Stewart, and Samson Against the Sheik / Maciste contro lo sceicco (Domenico Paolella, 1962) opposite Erno Crisa. In these films, he flexed his muscles and wore as little as the law then allowed. He also starred in a trilogy on the legendary Ursus, Ursus (Carlo Campogalliani, 1961) with Moira Orfei, Ursus nella valle dei leoni / Ursus in the Valley of the Lions (Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, 1961), and Ursus nella terra di fuoco / Ursus in the Land of Fire (Giorgio Simonelli, 1963), with Claudia Mori. Then the popularity of the Peplum films waned, and Fury returned to the U.S. Although he had married Marceline Yvette Dubois in 1959, Ed appeared as himself in an episode of the popular TV game show The Dating Game. He was one of the bachelors who got to select a date by asking questions of three lovely young women whom he wasn't allowed to see until making his selection. Fury returned to acting in the early 1970s and appeared mostly in small parts in such television series as Columbo (1973-1974) and Cannon (1976). His final film was again a low-budget adventure, Dinosaur Valley Girls (Donald F. Glut, 1996). In 2001, Fury was honoured at Venice Beach by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks as part of that year's Labour Day celebrations. The ceremony for local bodybuilders who had made a mark on the film industry was also attended by Gordon Mitchell, Mark Forest, Mickey Hargitay, Brad Harris, Richard Harrison, Reg Lewis and Peter Lupus. Hargitay, Mitchell and Fury again appeared together at the "Swords & Sandals" festival, hosted by the UCLA Film and Television Archive in July 2003. Ed Fury died at his home in the Woodland Hills neighbourhood of Los Angeles in 2023. Fury was 94 and was survived by his wife, Marceline Yvette Dubois, known as Shelly. They had three children.

I love this so much! I was cutting my friend Ed's hair and we got into a discussion about how you can dye strands of your hair with chalk. I had a case of pastels for a project I had coming up, at which Ed immediately picks a stick up and draws on his face with it. I instantly envisioned a mask of pastels. He complied (before he found out that these pastels are from the 80's) and this is what we came up with! I'm turning it in for a very non-traditional pastel piece

Here are a few locations from the 1994 biopic "Ed Wood" that can be found on Hollywood Blvd. This was the Hollywood Mortuary where Ed Wood (Johnny Depp) first meets Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau). It is located off Hollywood Blvd. on Cherokee Ave.

Wonderful blues trombone player, Ed won the "jamminest dude on the boat" award on the blues cruise. In this particular shot, he's playing in a workshop with Roy Gaines, who's backed up by Elvin Bishop's band. I like how he smiles while he plays.
