"Grrrrrr, Yes?" Jasper hates to be interrupted when he's reading the Arizona Economy page. A dog has to stay current, you know
A re-shoot of a pic from a couple of years ago. Why? I don't know, why not?
Jasper reads the Arizona Economy page. Kind of takes after his old man who got his degree in economics. Economics is known as the "dismal science", but Jasper is anything but dismal. I guess you just have to keep the right attitude and play plenty of frisbee to balance life
Here are some new economics titles that have been purchased over the past couple of months. Place your cursor over a book's cover to receive more information. Click on the "Check for availability" link in the note to see a book's status in the Library's online catalog.
As the old adage goes, The Only Constant In Life Is Change...and this scene will soon change forever. And while most won't lament the loss of one of the last stretches of long street running in the northeast the railfan community sure will...me among them.
One of the last trains ever to run up Monroe Street on the old Erie Dundee spur reflects off the tinted window of a vehicle parked along the crowded street. It's this conflict between traffic and trains that has long driven the city to try to drive the railroad off. What they could never do had finally been done by simple economics and the changing nature of northeastern industry.
ME SW1500 (EMD blt. Oct. 1966 as RFP 91) is shoving west with five cars of scrap rail and hardware they will be taking back to Morristown. After this there will probably be one more scrap train to run up and down the street and then that will be the end...

The construction of the building began in the summer of 1902, and in the autumn of 1904 the Riga Telegraph moved to the new premises; a little later - the Post Office. The building was built according to the project of the civil engineer Lev Novikov, the architect of the Main Post and Telegraph Board. The construction work was supervised by the architect of Riga J. Pfeifer, but after his death - by architect V. Lunskis. From 1932 to 1944, the Riga Radio (radio broadcasting) was also located here. Over time, various styles emerged as a result of the restoration and reconstruction of the building - the late eclecticism of the early 20th century, the neoclassicism of the 1930s, and the post-war Stalinist Empire style.
My Uni staircase project: this one looking down from the top of the economics staircase - so far it's the largest staircase i've photographed in this series.

Just like that, the weekend's gone, and we're back for another week of school. Lucky for those of us in economics, we're going on a field trip to the Leavenworth branch of LuthorCorp for a tour today. It's strange going there though, especially knowing that Lex Luthor used those resources against Clark before he got put behind bars. It's hard to say for certain whether Lena Luthor will go down the same route as her brother or not. As I'm entering the classroom, I notice Alicia and Shane talking by her desk. I walk over to them, and they turn to see me walking towards them.
"Hey Chris, you ready for this tour?"
"Oh you know it Shane. It's not like they run secret experiments or anything.." My voice just reeks of sarcasm as I respond.
"I want to believe that it was all Lex, and that his sister has nothing to do with it. Only time will tell I guess." Probably shouldn't say much more, as I don't need them questioning me on why I have the stance that I do. While Alicia does know of my powers, and me being Superboy, she doesn't know that I grew up on Krypton, or that my cousin is Superman. As for Shane, well, he doesn't know anything about me really besides really basic things like music taste.
"If only I had your optimism Alicia. Guess I shouldn't complain too much though, as we get to skip some school, and I get to hang out with two of my favourite people!" I kiss Alicia on the cheek, and I notice Shane rolling his eyes.
"Plus it's part of our final grade." Alicia's blushing as she talking. She's the best, honestly, how did I get so lucky? Anyway, the morning bell starts ringing, so I go back, and sit down by my desk. The class starts with teacher doing attendance. She goes down the list, with most replying by saying 'here!'. Others just say whatever pops into their head at that point. It comes to my turn, and I just simply say here, before she moves on. Yet again Bryce, Trixie, and Amy are all absent. Normally, I wouldn't think it was that odd, as they are the troublemakers of the class, but they've been absent for a whole month now. It's not just them either, as it seems like more students are missing from class these days. It's probably nothing, right? Just one big coincidence. Shane's the last one to be called, before the classroom phone rings. Our teacher answers, and she lets us know that the buses have arrived. So the class starts filing out of the room, and through the hallways. When we reach the bus, the three of us sit closer to the front of the bus, with me and Alicia on one side, and Shane right across from us. Within minutes, we leave Immaculata, and start driving towards LuthorCorp.
It's hard to concentrate on my conversation with Alicia when everyone else on the bus is so boisterous. I look over at Shane, and he just has ear buds in, listening to music. Alicia notices something's off, and puts her hand on my shoulder.
"Chris, are you okay?"
"I would be if there was an off button to my powers. But everything just gets so loud sometimes, it's hard to keep track of it all." I whisper back to her, making sure absolutely no one around us can hear our conversation.
"Right, sorry. It's hard remembering all of your powers. Maybe try taking your mind off it by focusing on something else?"
"Well that's not your fault, so don't worry about it. Also, I haven't shown you everything I can do."
"Wait what? There's more you haven't shown me? Like what?!"
"Let's see... You know about the flight, strength, my enhanced hearing and how durable I am. What you don't know is that I also have x-ray vision, heat vision, and cold breath."
"So you can see right through things! Wow, and I thought teleporting was really cool" She almost squeals in excitement, but contains herself.
"If I need to, yeah. Don't worry though, I don't ever really use it unless if I'm Superboy. Could easily lead to misunderstandings and all that. Hey, don't settle yourself too short. After all, you have saved a lot of people as Flux."
"Thanks. It's nice being able to talk about this with someone who actually gets it. Most people who find out about my powers don't take it so well, and end up leaving."
"Not even your parents?"
"Oh my parents don't even know. I'm way too scared to tell them, as I know exactly what'll happen if I do. They'll call me a freak, and throw me out." Alicia looks extremely worried about this, so I try my best to comfort her in any way that I can.
"Your parents wouldn't do that. They love you Alicia, and being a metahuman doesn't change the fact you're their daughter. Besides even if that did happen, which it won't, you could always come stay with me, Kara, and my dad."
"Thanks Chris, your support means more than you know. You'll be there with me when I tell them right?"
"If you want me to be there, I'll be there. Even if another supervillain just happens to go on a rampage throughout the city." I say, trying to lighten the mood a little.
"Chris Danvers, I love you." Alicia's smile is so contagious, as it always makes me smile.
"I love you too Alicia." I say giving her a quick kiss, before noticing the bus has stopped moving.
"Looks like we're here."
"Yeah." We all file out of the bus, with our teacher out in front. The LuthorCorp logo is hard to miss with it being plastered on the front of the building. It's like they expect us to forget about everything just because they have a new name and logo, but I won't forget what they've been part of. Well, let's get this over with.
Brandnew location for studying economics, located in Vienna. I have been there for a conference about semantic web this week.
I was back in Vienna early this year and decided to have a look inside one of these great campus buildings designed by Zaha Hadid. I was amazed! I can recommend a visit to this campus, it's close to the Prater area of Vienna. It's the WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business).

"Most investors are focused on making money, full stop. If that’s your goal, you’re going to be like all the other investors — maximising sort term opportunities to make money. Taking a long-term strategy usually involves some larger, iterative process of learning about how to differentiate yourself from everybody else by knowing more than them in any given domain before that domain gets overinvested. We make money is a by-product of investing in the best entrepreneurs who are going to change the world. Our singular filter is to find the people, projects and opportunities that we think are going to be game-changing for humanity. If you succeed at doing that, you’ll make plenty of money"
"The long arc of human advancement — of progress — is from cultural and technological advancement. The human body is identical today to the body we had 2,000 years ago. Biological evolution hasn’t changed us, yet we are ‘smarter’ and ‘wiser’ — that’s cultural evolution. It’s the ideas, science and methods that we have used to accumulate wisdom over time. We put bad ideas aside and accumulate the ones that are helpful and true, allowing us to do the amazing things that we do. Every one of us is a contributor. And I would say I want to contribute to that as much as I can. Because I realise that’s the vector of progress. It's not staying where we are. It's not studying the past to keep it perpetuating. The past is a steppingstone to the future, and our legacy must be: how can we help facilitate human flourishing, advancement and happiness for the most people possible."
